If you find yourself surrounded by a group of teenagers in the middle of the night in a rural area (especially in India), you could be in serious trouble, but China is definitely an exception.

It's for sure very safe in the rural area of China even at night, that's why I've been to a mountain village to watch the night sky at a summer night, i could identify immediately the milky way, the big dipper when i was away from the light pollution.

What i like about china ? They take proven advice . Some tell grow things . They find the african green belt , went from deadly desert to forest full of life . China adopt e. And grow trees . Pollution is dropping and water is retained near surface

I agree with you. Overall China is very safe but that doesn’t mean that we should be careless. We have to take care of ourself too. Sometimes there are bad people that might have bad intention and you never know.

晚上出行还是小心为上好，尤其是遇到喝醉酒的。前段时间有个康奈尔的教授一行四人在吉林被人持刀袭击，我们不知道歹徒的目的是什么。无论在任何国家，都有好人和坏人，中国确实相对更安全，而且中国人对外国面孔会有一定的敬畏，但不表示绝对安全！

Some time ago, a group of four, including a Cornell professor, was attacked with a knife in Jilin. We don't know the assailant's motive. There are good and bad people in every country. China is indeed relatively safer, and Chinese people generally have a certain respect for foreign faces, but this does not mean it is absolutely safe! Take care and enjoy China!

You saw so many young people at night because it was summer vacation recently. They can rest for two months after returning home from school, together with their friends, and come out to play at night.
Indeed, in villages like some third tier cities, may be no foreigner came here all year around. China has a low crime rate, but that doesn't mean it's 100% safe. Avoid going to dangerous places just to shoot videos. Even in the city, it's best to steer clear of areas that are dimly lit and deserted.

Sadly, many other people in China have been attacked with knives recently including Americans and Japanese as well as hundreds of Chinese citizens including children.
The police call such incidents where the attacks are carried out at random against people not known to their assailants "revenge against society" incidents.
Children are popular targets for lone males with knives so dont give us the China is safe nonsense because there is clearly a deep seated issue.
Imperfections are everywhere. How many stabbing cases are there in china on a per capita basis at decade intervals? How about the figures based on the same parameters in america, uk or europe?

It's not rural China. I love China, but that's not rural China. There are tall buildings all over the place, wide roads and not a single farm, land, crops, nothing. You are in a small(er) town. Again, not rural.
Upon seeing your comment, I curiously searched for the location "宜良花街" from the video. It's 1.5 kilometers away from the nearest village "段官village", and 2.7 km away from another village, "苏羊village".
The distance to nearest county town is 2.5 km, and it is 47.5 km away from the second-tier city of Kunming.
Based on my understanding of Yunnan province, these villages primarily engage in flower using greenhouse methods and rely on cement roads for transportation.
I am not sure how to define "rural" in your country, but I don't think any difference in the village around there
