    Thanks for this informative video Matt. Currently I have a headlamp that has not worked out well. I especially like this device for the directional control of the light.

      Cheers, Ray! The articulating light isn't something I would have thought was a useful feature, but it turns out I use it all the time to change the direction of the light depending on where i'm running.

      Good to hear you don't need a headlamp at the mo. It seems a lot safer if we're not running in a place where it's needed! Does the light on your Fenix strong enough to show the road/trail in front of you, or is it more for others to see you!

    Great video! Many thanks! Sorry if I missed it, but what’s the autonomy of the 800 Pro at full power and best light coverage of the road? I am about to run a road ultra marathon 100k starting at 5pm until 11 am next day, and don’t want to take any risks regarding the visibility until the sun comes back in the morning.
    Would you advise to take an additional power bank in the back bag ? If yes, 5 or 10,000 mAh? Or more?
    Thank you 🙏

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  6 місяців тому +1

      The battery at high power is not straight forward. With constant brightness it will only last 2 hours on high (500lm), but if you use the "regulated power" mode, it will last 7 hours. The time is will last goes up as the brightness goes down (obviously).
      I haven't used a power bank with this light so I can't give feedback, but I would suggest getting the largest battery pack that is still easy to carry with you!

  • @starbase218
    @starbase218 Рік тому +1

    What I wonder about is this: you get a stepless dimmable light, which is great, except that if you need it to work for, say, 5 hours, where do you leave it? Other lamps have distinct power settings (low/mid/high outputs for example) and you can get a certain number of hours out of each setting. I think I'd rather have this headband design, with the battery on the back, but with the front unit having two buttons: one for the mode and one for the power setting.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Рік тому

      You bring up an excellent point I hadn’t considered. Although BioLite does provide the run times when their headlamps are set at high, med, and low, there is no way to be sure you’re running the headlamp at the desired setting! 🤔

    You’ll get a laugh from this: I use a Foxelli headlamp to go outdoors to jump rope on early winter mornings! I jump rope in a building in my apartment complex that I walk across the parking lot to reach. In winter the parking lot is often icy or snowy and this old lady needs to see where she’s walking at 5:30 a.m. - and further needs both arms/hands to grip the outside stair handrails. 😊

    I really wanted to give the 800 Pro a try for trail running, but I’m hesitant with that IP water rating. I do a lot of rain-or-shine running during the summer months (if there is no lightning) and will sometimes be running in a torrential downpour. I’ve always had to switch to one of my Black Diamond headlamps in those scenarios, but they aren’t as comfortable for running. 😕

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Рік тому

      The 800 Pro is a great headlamp and I’ve been caught in the rain a few times without any issue, BUT I always worry it’s going to break. I agree they need a much higher IP rating, at least on the Pro model!

    • @JustinAshworth
      @JustinAshworth Рік тому +1

      I have used every generation of Black Diamond Sprinter headlamp for running over the last 10+ years but the latest sprinter 275 with swappable AAA/rechargeable battery options is garbage in the rain or even ambient moisture/fog. There's no waterproofing at all and the electronics just go nuts to where you can't reliably control light behavior. I had customer service replace one but 6 months later the same thing happened to the replacement. That's got me looking at the Biolite 800 Pro, which after this great review I'll be buying right now. :) Only thing I see it missing is a top strap, but if it's light enough that may not even be necessary.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Рік тому +1

      @@JustinAshworth I haven’t had any trouble with the 800 Pro slipping due to not having the top strap. I also used the 750 Pro all last year without issue! The 800 Pro is a solid option! 🔦

    USB PD can deliver more power than standard USB. However, even for a 3000mAh battery, you don't want to charge at those rates because it won't be good for the battery. But anyway, despite appearances, this has nothing to do with the actual physical connector. Micro-USB is allowed to deliver up to 60 watts of power. Ok, USB-C can deliver more, but 60 watts is what a MacBook Pro charger delivers. So from a power POV, there is no reason to go with USB-C.
    However, from a convenience POV, there is a lot of reason to standardise everything on the omnidirectional USB-C plug.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  Рік тому +1

      I'm sure i'm not the first person you've asked to be "gifted" something, so you should know this: when UA-camrs are sent stuff, it is usually payment for producing content. That means the value of the item is considered income and taxes are paid on the item. Do you have a job? You asking me for the BioLite 325 would be like me asking you (a complete stranger) for $40. So, while I would love to "gift" you the 325, I cannot just give away my income, because I am also just a poor runner.
