OMG I'm absolutely starving now! We eat a lot of shark (flake), it's comes cut into fillets and either grilled or deep fried at the local fish and chip shop, a Friday night special growing up. Great vid.
Tassie Lobsters are so good. I've seen some that are twice the size of the big one shown here, and I've got photos to back that up. My dad has eaten hundreds of them, me nowhere near as many. More refined than a mud crab, but even more expensive per kg. Anyone travelling to Australia should definitely spend a week or two in Tasmania as a minimum. My great Uncle ran a Lobster factory and dad worked there when he was young. He used to have Lobster free for lunch. He still loves them and occasionally family will drop one of their catch in for him when the season is on.
My homeland! Rock Lobster (Crayfish) on special birthdays, scallops in creamy curry, oysters Kilpatrick or natural, flake and chips, Huon salmon, mutton birds, real chickens, beef, apples, berries, stone fruits! 😋❤️
Southern Rock Lobster (Crayfish) gets exported to Japan and China, why its $120 per kg now... Me and dad wd go diving and grab a few for dinner.. l had to eat crayfish sangers at school before it went off. The little 1kg+ ones are the best, big ones get a bit stringy! Abs are good eating, and flake (shark).. seafoods good!!
when I was a kid my grandfather would go fishing a bring back whole sharks we would sit around the table and pull the meat out in a big family setting.
Omg…..I am so hungry now. But, I am lucky enough and can afford to have South Australian Crayfish (which is soooo much better than American Lobster…tiny little things that they are). We also have the big cold water crayfish locally, and at least 3 times a year, both of our birthdays and our anniversary, we have a seafood ‘week’. We get at least 2 crayfish, cooked in sea water which is the best way to eat lobster or crayfish, (we add a dipping sauce and lemon squeeze), plus we add oysters (both natural and Kilpatrick- home made recipe) and xl or xxl prawns…cooked. When we say ‘cooked’, they are cooked in sea water on the boat they were caught on. So cooking occurs within hours of a catch. And honestly, I love crayfish, but I equally love South Australian Oysters (from Coffin Bay) and our prawns. I know I am spoiled…I have tried seafood in US and Europe….and it does not compare! But when you think about it, only 20% (or so) of people live south of the equator….but that means that there is a lot more ‘sea’. And the combination of less people and more sea life…..well, you see why we are spoiled!
Seafood in Hobart, Tasmania, is off the hook. Oysters, lobster, you name it. Went to a restaurant down there, might have been Mures down in Salamanca, that served oyster shooters, basically a raw oyster in a shot glass of tequila, with a little bit of tobasco. And yeah, shark is commonly eaten in Australia. Go to a fish & chip shop, it's sold as 'flake'. I tend to prefer it grilled rather than battered, but either way it is seriously good eating.
Where is that guy from that said he had never thought of eating shark until in his 30s? All Australians were brought up on fish nd chips at least once a week and 90% of the time the fish was Flake. (Flake is Shark!)
Trevelly up North. The GT Giant trevelly teases you. You catch a Small fish and throw it back. They come up and eat it. You put a hook in it they are smart enough to not take it. They get old and learn. Coral trout. Out one night with some blokes from Singapore. A coral trout whole was presented at the restaurant. I was eating the eyes the cheeks the braines they were looking at me. That fish is that good.
As an expat Tasmanian I would rather fresh water lobster [ crayfish] than lobster[ saltwater] My favorite seafood from home are scallops and freshwater whitebait. Yes I have had everything in the video and also dined at Mures the seafood company featured ,at their restaurant Upper Deck .
i love shark meat, firm but flaky mild taste no strong fishy taste or smell. best thing to come out of the ocean if it's bled and cleaned straight away.
Tasmania has great food, but the tourists are a bit ignorant. They could do better to plan by checking some basics like CLIMATE. Even locals have died in blizzards.
My first job deckhand on a Cray boat eaten so much can't stand Cray fish now , prefer the king grab delicious,i cant believe you yanks eat squirrel it a tree rat 😂
South Australia has a reputation for offering the best food in the whole world-whether it be fresh-whether it be roasted-should we cook it on a barbecue or whatever else-is amazing to understand-dead people from avalanche are blown away-buy the things we take for granted-I'm sure you know that Australia has very strict regulations to say what you can bring and cannot?-when will ignorance stupid Nations understand they must protect their food security-there's a reason Australia has become one of the strongest countries on Earth?-it is because of the right to protect our food security do you understand that!.
Yes Flake means Shark … sorry … I’m back now, had to go throw up. Not everyone eats flake - how disgusting. Watch out when in Melbourne and or surroundings tho. Flake seems to be on their lists re fish and chips. They are right. Normally fish and chips means COD no questions asked but not necessarily in Melbourne. Trevally (going check spelling back in minute … all good - ahh phonetics). In the meantime it’s pronounced TRE (tr err) VALLEY.
Never heard the word disgusting used to describe flake. Flake is common across the nation not just Melbourne. I don't like trout but I don't do the 5 yr old vomit spectacular about it. To each his own, respect to all.
There are UNIFORM rules, Neal, in respect to EVERYTHING in Australia , including catching lobsters, before posting bullshit you need to bring yourself up to date on this, indeed you may get MORE views by finding out and POSTING truth!
It's called Blue Eye Trevalla may have similar commonish name but fish is unrelated to Trevally totally different only caught in the southern ocean been a fishmonger for 47yrs u must be frm up North fella

With salt and vinegar plus hot chips with chicken salt... 🤘🏼😋🤘🏼
If you like crab meat, take a look at Tasmanian King Crab.
Proud Tasmania, we absolutely have some of the worlds best seafood (and whiskey)

Abalone is bliss, nearly equaled by oysters directly off the rocks
You have to try gummy shark.. baby gummy lip smacking.
All of the above love it
Blue eye Trevalla is awesome.
Eaten heaps of shark(like all Aussies),

Most of this is available most of the time in Tazzie. I love it.
You'll have to check out the other couple of episodes of them in Aus. Great watch.
There just tourism promoters average af
Your a good bloke mate, we can all see that, hope you get here one day.
Shark of choice where I live in the South West of Oz is Bronze Whaler or "Bronzy".

These pretzels are making me thirsty.
I had Flake (shark) for dinner last night
My home town is where the lobster was caught, unfortunately I can't eat seafood due to being allergic
I'm having shark for dinner tonight.

Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world, scientifically proven. Indonesian fishermen illegally fish in Australian waters. Flake fish is delicious.
And the cleanest soil and water, an average American has no idea how good fresh food tastes! 🤗
@@jenniferharrison8915 True. I've visited Tasmania many times since 1965 and love it.
ha ha ha up in Qld some crayfish grow as big as 3 feet ha ha ha
I actually knew the mure family
Yep. I just came back from Tassie.
They are spoiled rotten down there!🤤👍
A bit cold during winter and not so hot during summer... other than that... 😊👍🏼
dammm your video made me so hungry
i love shark meat, firm but flaky mild taste no strong fishy taste or smell.

Im lucky enough to live in Tasmania & catch, shoot my own food. 500k people & roughly 1.3m registered firearms.
Mures have gone down hill small.portions high prices
I'm from Tasmania tried it all live in Queensland now this makes me home sick
Tasmania has great food, but the tourists are a bit ignorant. They could do better to plan by checking some basics like CLIMATE. Even locals have died in blizzards.
Shark is the best boneless and tasty
The best 😂😂😂😂😂 that's laughable. Get some reef fish up ya then you'll know what great fish tastes like.
Fckn shark😂 😂the best😂😂😂😂😂😂
My first job deckhand on a Cray boat eaten so much can't stand Cray fish now , prefer the king grab delicious,i cant believe you yanks eat squirrel it a tree rat 😂
I love eating prawns and crabs, I’m the only one in my family that doesn’t like the taste of lobster.
I could eat crayfish (lobster) and oysters and West Aust wild Dhu fish every day but I'm not keen on crabs or prawns or east coast/NZ Jew fish.
Sad, maybe it was the freshness or cooking! Tasmania has massive crabs too, and perfect real scallops!
