I just watched an clip of Captain and Tennille Love will keep us together with Jim playing and he looked like he was having such a great time. He would look at Tinnille for cues and he would smile occasionally just driving that sing like he did for thousands of songs. So sad for his mother and sad he never could get help. I didn't realize how many hits ha actually played on. Hope he finally found peace.
Way to avoid the question! Good research for the most part, but saying England had never seen a top drummer before is silly. Would Jim have been adaptable to the modern scene? Probably! He was an excellent commercial style drummer, but he had sensibility for improvisation and nuance. Many of the guys were notorious drug users and that could have been a tragic part of his story, but many contemporaries made it through will solid ongoing careers.
I grew up listening to Delaney and Bonnie.. to see vids on YT years later of him playing is stellar

He’d still be in prison.
