Every saga has a beginning, thus we have "part 1" of the new epic in this cinematic odyssey!!!!! Here's my review for THE STRANGERS: PART 1
#TheStrangers
Oh man! Bathrobe and glass of scotch?
This is where the fun begins.
you know its DOGSHIT i miss those reviews
Wow! Oh wow man! Just wow! Ha haaaaaaaaaaa! Wow!
Ngl I enjoy the review where he shits on the movies more than the regular ones.
wowie woohwah
Aim right for the driver side window, You know he's there because he is in fact driving his truck into your vehicle😂
No no no take 15 seconds to aim and look away and then act surprised when the bad guy is gone when your shoot the gun
Unless the truck was made in England
And then don’t take the truck that’s working perfectly, makes sense!

Love that Jeremy is really leaning into the "holding a glass in the thumbnail" when a movie sucks
As soon as I saw the glass in his hand, I knew “oh, man, this ain’t gonna be good” 😵
well, I went with 3 folks and they liked it. It was entertaining.
I still wanna watch it though.… looks like a lot of fun 😅😅😅
@@joshuarodriguez75 stupid slashers are honestly a great time with the right people and the right.... motivations
Right on 😅😅😅
When Jeremy’s holding a glass of scotch, you know the review’s gonna be awesome
Took the words right out of my mouth.
And the movie sucks😂
I was just about to say that
Don't you mean, awesometacular?
The review…. And not the movie lol
His description of the water bottle moment reminds me of that Family Guy joke where Peter eats chips in Anne Franks attic
Lmaooo 🤣🤣🤣 classic
I still eat chips like that
CRITICAL love your videos man ❤️
Does anybody remember that creepy quote from the first strangers.. Why are you doing this? Because you were home.. Psycho quote
They filmed all 3 back to back brother. We're getting part 2 and 3 whether we want them or not.
For real? Yeesh, props for ambition, I guess
@@nate1066pollockyeah lol. They plan to release all 3 within a year of the release of the first movie too. So guess we’re in for the long haul
That's if this one makes any money. Lol if this movie bomb, they'll either dump the other 2 on a streaming service or just cancel them and put them on a shelf

So, just like Rebel Moon.
This is my issue with modern horror movies. To have the villain be remotely scary, the protagonist has to be an absolute idiot. It's like the writers aren't smart enough to have the characters be intelligent while having the villain still be one step ahead.
Exactly right
Yeah dude!
Watch Malum. It's a modern horror but I'd say it's more of a psychological horror. You don't even see the villain until the 3rd act.
Tbf people are stupid. Read the news and a lot of deaths are the result of stupidity.
@@joewas2225 I mean. Why not just watch the Last Shift. Same dang movie, same director. Bro remade his own movie. That is weird to me.
My wife and I went to see this last night. A couple of people actually got up and left after the boyfriend tripped and rolled his ankle on the rock during the running to the shed scene. Somebody even said “un-fucking-believable” in the audience. I did chuckle a few times, but this movie was hard to watch. Not because it was scary or anything, it was just really bad.
3 people got up and left midway through the movie when I went….and there were only 6 people total in the entire theatre lol
Wow. I didn’t go to the movies because of all the bad reviews, so I watch it on streaming, and man halfway through I was falling asleep on it. The movie was terrible and I highly doubt the two sequels will get theatrical releases.
The fact that they’re making “origin” movies to The Strangers proves they don’t understand what made the first one so scary.
Exactly. The Strangers is just not meant to be a franchise because it's not much there to work with. We've seen everything over and over before and the characters get dumber and dumber and the actors get worse and worse. The first movie with Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman was lighting in a bottle.
That's not what they're doing tho
That's not what this is.
Tbh i said something similar about The Matrix as soon as the sequels were announced. So much of the appeal of the first one had to do with the *mystery* of figuring out what the matrix was - we were in the dark along with Neo and discovering it along the way.
Despite that, and despite the fact that the sequels are most definitely not perfect, I would venture to say that the sequels do nonetheless prove that they conceptually had a lot of potential. It’s just unfortunate that they weren’t executed in better hands.
Bottom line so much for making a sequel or prequel, comes down to what angle you choose to take. It just comes down to being creative enough and talented enough to make it work, and doing it out of passion not just for money.
The first one was scary?
The inherent problem with the Strangers is that its idea kinda lends itself AWAY from being a franchise. The whole premise is that these three are committing a completely random act of violence for literally no reason. There's nothing driving them beyond "they felt like it." If they didn't find this couple, they'd just find someone else. Then once it's over, they move on to the next. Their "target" is just whoever is unlucky enough to be home when they're going on one of their hunts.
Knowing how pointless all of it was, is a fantastic gut punch... for ONE movie. But when you make sequels, prequels and reboots, every movie will just play out the exact same. No surprises, over and over again, until the Strangers meet someone who can fight back and finish them off (like in the terrible sequel). But then if you try to make the Strangers more complex, you betray the core concept of the original movie: that these three really are just random strangers who wanted to kill a few people, and the original couple were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Exactly! Well said!
The sequel was not that bad. I'll admit it's not as scary, but its a fun movie.
@@dutchvanderlinde2002 The sequel had some of the dumbest characters from what I can remember, and just the worst decisions. Room level intelligence would have been more than enough to beat the strangers. At least that's from what little I remember from the movie, I could only watch it once.
@@CCook-wv1gk the same could be said about the first movie as well, because the decision making was stupid. The thing with the second one is it went from a home invasion thriller to a slasher, so the two movies have a very different tone
@@dutchvanderlinde2002 You're right, it takes a good writer and director to make a horror type movie while also having intelligent characters. Slasher movies are usually the worst offender in this, you need dumb characters and even dumber villains if they are going to lose in the end. The tone switch was definitely one of the sequels downfalls. The Strangers also fell victim to the need for everything to be a franchise instead of just being a good stand alone film. You're Next is a good example of a slasher movie with good writing and directing.
Horror movies that rely on the main characters being idiots for there to be a movie at all usually suck
It's lazy writing. I also despise the trend in horror movies of making all of the characters assholes because writing nuanced, likeable characters requires talent and a fundamental understanding of human decency.
Am I the only one who thought The Strangers Prey At Night was superior to the original? I like that we had heroes who successfully fought back, and I just loved the artistry of that poolside scene.
😂😂 yes it was good..who cares what others say ..I liked it a lot
pool scene was the only good one
Yeah. I like the first one better. I don't bother with the prey at night one.
Yes I found 2008 a little boring to be honest.
@@LeesDailyTechI loved it and Glenn Howerton was in it so that’s cool
So great news Jeremy, this was filmed as a trilogy and all 3 films are set to be released this year. It doesn’t need to make money, they’re already finished. Worst case scenario these movies just don’t go to theaters and end up on Netflix or something.
My thoughts exactly
Nice
Or they get permanently locked away in a fault for a tax write off
@@20maximilian03this ain't wb
@@20maximilian03 yeah, not gonna happen
The first movie was great for its time. It predated the type of movies we see these days. But at the time i remember how creepy that first knock on the door was. It perfectly captured the horror of that sound in that moment. Probably wont be scary if i saw it now..the problem with horror films these days is that nothing surprises you.
It also drives a core fear we have of.....well strangers. You could actually be targeted, harassed, attacked, and killed by people you've never met for no reason. It's the fact that they could just be regular ass people you could bump into on the streets that makes it more unnerving.
@@QuintonT agreed. And i think you may be on to a good story there. Real strangers dont wear sacks over their heads. They wear fake smiles. Now that has a potential to be a great story line
@akachiokafor8739
That is true and that's what the first movie captured perfectly cause it was first lol. Plus Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman are way better protagonist than whoever was in Prey at Night and this new one. They been doing alot of marketing for this new one and I get it.. but it's made the killers less scary. Like it's to corporate, like a theme park ride. Definitely doesn't give you that ominous dread the first movie did
@@DeMarcusFountain-sv6fi and you'd be surprised how many people have not seen or heard of the first movie. then again who watches originals any more..its like why read the book when i watch the film, or listen to the audiobook. i get it. then again people who loved the more recent evil dead remakes dont like the 80s original ones. and maybe because they were made for two different audiences.
Nah. The first one relied heavily on making people believe it’s a true story. Take that gimmick away and it’s a bland, brown bread horror movie.
"And now....[switches to robe and scotch] the time has come."

The first time I saw Deep Blue Sea, I was flipping through the channels and found it in the middle of Samuel L. Jackson's big halfway speech. Less than 60 seconds to the big moment that made me realize how much fun crappy, back-channel movies can be.
Netflix's new shark movie "Under Paris" reminded me of Deep Blue Sea. An awful film in every way - bad writing, bad acting, idiotic characters, moronic ending - and yet I couldn't turn away from the wreckage. I'm a bit ashamed I enjoyed it, and even more ashamed that I'm recommending it, as it's now Netflix's most watched movie of 2024, and nobody should be encouraging this sort of garbage, but it WAS fun garbage.
Jeremy pulling out his best Mac’s Dad impression from it’s always sunny at 6:24 😂
Cabin in the woods. I thought it would be bad. But I was so wrong
The Cabin in the Woods was surprising for how good it was even though it shouldn't have been from the amount of talent they had in the movie between the acting, directing, and writing. It's also a stand alone movie, not everything needs to be a franchise.
Cabin Fever was something I thought was really great. Although it's completely off when it comes to strangers and cabin in the woods
Same. I wish more movies where as surprisingly good as Cabin in the woods.
Can't believe other channels are hyping this up, finally an honest review !!!!
The transition from the wick jacket to the robe and scotch tells us all we need to know
Jokes on you Jeremy, they already filmed all THREE chapters before this one even came out!
Maybe a fun fact: they shot chapter 1, 2, and 3 back-to-back.
Also a weird fact, all three were shot by the director of Die Hard 2.
Die Hard 2 sucks. He made A Nightmare On Elm Street 4 though
@@xipetotek8366 I thinks it's not as good as the first (my favorite Christmas movie) but it's better than 3 and 5 imo. I just thought it was a fun fact! :)
That explains why the second half of this movie is missing.

The next installment of The Stangers needs to involve one of their victims hiding a dark secret, which they are a lycanthrope (werewolf). The last survivor slowly changes into a werewolf. The hunted is now the hunter.
I keep remembering enjoying your review of Legend of Hercules. Inlaugued my ass off to your re-enactment of the slow-mo scenes to this day. 🤣
PUNCH!!!
Oh man, a little bit of that ol "I'm not fuckin around!" Jeremy coming out in this one! Love it man. Don't hold back haha.
I saw a panel for this movie at ECCC, with Madelaine Petsch and the producer Courtney Solomon. I'm still stubbornly seeing this film, even if it does suck, simply because I got a free t-shirt that Mads was handing out to some people. She asked my name with a smile, I introduced myself. It felt very personable and real to me. Even if this movie isn't that great, I'm just hopeful she'll go on to have a solid rest of her career. I asked her a question during the Q&A portion of the panel, if she was interested in directing, since she got an executive producer credit for this movie. She said she loved that question, as was clear from the big grin on her face, and replied that she didn't feel she was ready for that role just yet, but didn't rule out the possibility of it someday in the future. What a fun and memorable panel that was! I just hope the movie isn't _that_ bad. I wasn't a big fan of the original Strangers movie like Mads said she was, but I did get a free t-shirt with the three "Strangers" on it. I doubt I'll see Parts 2 and 3 unless Part 1 really wows me. Still, I'll give the first one a chance, just as a showing of gratitude and respect for Mads.
Her acting was horrendous in this movie.
“Boyfriend acted weird a couple of times.”
So like, every relationship that’s ever existed.
🤣🤣🤣
Love the punching at the end always
Renny Harlin knew how to make solid action films back in the 1990s: Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and especially The Long Kiss Goodnight were awesome
Also he made one of the better NOES movies (part 4: The dream master)
Cliffhanger so under-appreciated. Lithgow evil status turned up to 1000 and Stallone crushes per usual.
the hell happened? why can't we have Die Hard 2 Renny Harlin again?
IKR?!
Good stuff. Now I even really enjoyed Cutthroat Island, so much that I bought it.
Renny Harlin also directed Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Nightmare on Elm Street 4, The Prison. He has some gems
Really liked Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger. I enjoyed Cutthroat Island at the time. Lol
@@carlb5558 die hard 2 is underrated
One thing that I genuinely really liked about this movie is the ending. Without spoiling it, it sets up Chapter 2 pretty well and seems to be taking the Strangers franchise not seen in any of the 3 movies so far. Also throughout the movie I knew for a fact that everyone was gonna survive cause there's 2 more after this, but during those last 5 minutes I was genuinely questioning the outcome of the characters which I absolutely did not expect. Most everything leading up to those last 5 minutes is an utter comedy, but man did they pull off the ending in my eyes.
Yeah I felt like the scene where the couple was tied up was actually done really well. Having the guy get unexpectedly stabbed was one of the only moments that caught me off guard or scared me even a little bit. If I remember correctly the original one had you see the strangers before they did the killing wasn’t done as well as it was in this remake
The ending was horrible super corny and made no sense LOL
This was one of my favorite Jeremy reviews in a while😭
I am so glad you brought up how strange the boyfriend was acting throughout the film!! I thought he was in on it and kept hoping for a big reveal. At least that would have made this film a little different from the original….but nope! Sigh.
when jeremy is drunk, you know youre in for a good review
I had the same problems with the original. Woman almost escapes but...trips and falls. Man being stealthy on the ground in the foliage because the leaves make a lot of noise when crushed....is about to take out one killer....then another killer is able to run up on the man , unheard until it's too late. And apparently neither protagonists have any peripheral vision. Could have been great, ended up being a horror trope filled annoyance.
Jeremy being in Rant Mode is Top Tier😂
Ok so I never even saw a trailer, but I went to the cinema a week ago to watch The Fall Guy and saw a poster for this movie and literally my first thought was "Really? Another one? Why?", good to know I'm not missing anything. Congratulations on the "The Strangers" franchise for joining the illustrious "1/3 of the franchise is good" alongside Star Wars and Jurassic Park.
That opening line Jeremy, is exactly what I thought originally. But here we are 😅😅😂
i LOVE your reviews, man!! you put just the right amount of comedy (intentional or not) in it when reviewing a bad movie in particular. also reviews are short and to the point.
"GO! SAVE YOURSELF!" @4:59 LMAO 🤣🤣
Movie I thought was gonna be crap but ended up turning out to be pretty damn good? Ouija: Origin of Evil. Great review as always btw.
“Prove to me why you deserve to live “
That’s gonna be stuck in my head now anytime I watch a modern horror movie lol
There was that moment they checked the dam window they were like nope to easy let’s go this way the 😂😂😂😂😂😂 the dam piano scene 😂😂😂😂😂 I always love your videos
Hear Me Out:
This movie is more than meets the eye. Think about the lines being said. The same things going on from the original.
Theory: Brian is from that town. Has a past his girlfriend doesn’t know about. And I believe chapter 2 will keep showing shots that were omitted from chapter 1. That’s how we find out the strangers became the strangers. Maybe it’s a reach but I don’t think so. I think we just want the pay off in the same movie but there is definitely more into the plot than we think.
Commenting for the algorithm, thanks for the video
I did NOT have much faith in that "ready or not" movie from a few years ago, but that surprisingly was a great, dark comedy horror movie.
No kill scenes and no scares, pointless movie
But there was! In the beginning. Stupid tree got in the way. It sucked
This is why you should do your research on the film so you can enjoy it more because I think this film was a lot better than the original in terms of pacing and scares. They are focusing big time on the lore of it rather than making a sequel that is just another survival horror scenario. Chapter 1 is a proper remake of the original which then will go to a different path for Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 and so on. Resarch people, do your research yall before embarrassing yourself!
Bathrobe and Scotch Jeremy is the Best Jeremy!
I also love how the dude keeps pumping the shotgun unnecessarily, which in real life would be wasting several shells for no reason.

The people back in 2008 was saying the same thing about the strangers movie that it was so bad and then everyone love that movie, I still think in the future people would love it
I loved the original strangers movie from day 1
Damnit Jeremy why did you remind me about Legend of Hercules. I did my best to forget that entire movie
I thought "Orphan: First Kill" would be trash, but it was so good that I was happily willing to suspend my disbelief regarding the believability of Isabelle Fuhrman's de-aging.
I guess Chris stuckmann won't be reviewing this movie.. Haha

The best part of the movie is when she’s playing Beethoven’s Song “Sonata No. 14 in C-Sharp minor, Op 27. No. 2 Moonlight ll, Allegretto” I was like wow, she’s playing her own Death Song 😂

I saw this last night have been waiting for this. Good lord were there serious holes/plot armor here. I saw this purely to see what Renny Harlin did. With 2 more on the way, I shudder to think what will happen there. I was rooting for the serial killers by about 1/4 way through.
That said, I give Lionsgate credit for going all in. I just wish it were on something original that has something to it.
It is quite light horror but I actually really enjoyed "I saw the TV Glow" which came out recently

Watched it last night. Definitely not worth watching again. They made the couple think like complete idiots. Lol 😂 We were annoyed the whole time, at least give the characters some common sense.
Wait, so the dude with sack mask is gonna start busting through the front door with an axe and when he stops, the boyfriend is gonna say "I think it's over, I'm going to go check?" Lmao yeah I'm skipping. I can't stand incredibly stupid characters in these movies. The Strangers is just not meant to be a franchise. The first movie with Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman was lighting in a bottle
Super accurate review. I saw it last night and I swear I’m waiting for the boyfriend to reveal he’s apart of it or for him to catch a blade to the head. 90% of the time super weird framing with that heavy foreground focus on his face and that slightly curved background blur to really focus in on him (which used to be a way to catch the audience with a twist or jump kill). If anyone knows what I’m talking about, you get why that framing is super concerning almost every time he’s on screen
Shoutout one of the most consistent UA-camrs out 💯
Canceled my ticket 🥃
Watched it in an empty theater, captions on by mistake and even that wasn't enough to remember anything after it. The onl;y thing i liked was seeing Riverdale Petsch on screen as i have a serious crush on her. Also Moonlight Sonata plays and was reminded of Resident Evil.
