- This powerpoint goes through my predictions for the upcoming RS exams. For more information including how to approach these questions and to access the Teach Along go to the blog.
* Please note: I have put Analogy as Apophatic rather than Cataphatic (via positiva).
miss you predicted 3/4 for philosophy!! aquinas analogy, plato, cosmological came up & then the alternative of religious experience came up!! 🙇🏻♀️👏
No she never
@@allthingsfpl8128 she did wdum😭 philosophy was on aquinas analogical language, plato & a argument on the existence of god? and for the alternatives RE was included. it may not be the exact question word for word, but she definitely was on the right track with everything😭
Yeah I was pretty close, I'm very surprised it was Plato's AoC but analogy wasn't a surprise just a shame no nature of God!
@@IThinkThereforeITeach same I really wanted nature of god but the questions where lovely !
@@IThinkThereforeITeach Yes I was a bit sad that nature is God didn’t come up !! 😢
i really hope we all get the grades we need. todays exam went rlly weird for me i’m really hoping i got the best grade possible. i wish all of you the same too. thank for your videos and these predications. you have saved my life and hopefully i get the grade i want
I am so pleased my videos and predictions are helping. It sounds like you are doing your best which is all that you can do! I hope your final exam goes really well :)
Thanks to your vids and predictions my philosophy exam went really well, ive struggled so much with RS but I think your vids have single handedly saved my a level. Thank you!!!!!!!
That is wonderful to hear - I'm so pleased i can help :)
The questions were something along the lines of
Death and afterlife: critically discussing the different views/interpretations of what heaven is like
Pluralism and society: “Christian communities have successfully responded to the challenge of encounters with other faiths” discuss.
And moral principles (I think?): “agape (love) is the only sufficient source of Christian ethics” discuss.
The last one was liberation theology which I don’t remember as I didn’t do that, but again, pretty accurate predictions!
Thank you for this Sabrina, very helpful. I hope it went really well 😀
hi, these were quite accurate! natural law (whether the 5 primary precepts are important), meta-ethics (whether the term “good” has an objective basis) & business (with utilitarianism) came up but it was focused on whether businesses should focus on making-profit and nothing else. the other question was about whether kant was too focused on duty - thank you for your predictions!
You are very welcome Sabrina, I am just pleased I was able to help :)
You got 3 of the ethics statements write.
1. The 5 primary precepts are an important part of natural law. Discuss.
2. According to utilitarianism, a business should only focus on profit-making and nothing else.
3. To what extent does Kant rely on duty? Didn't do this one so I might've written it wrong.
4. In meta-ethics, the term good, has an objective factual basis. Discuss.
Thank you for the questions :) I hope your exam went really well and yes I am pleased with my predictions I was pretty close this year :)
Thank you so much for all your help. I couldn't have done those exams without you!
You are very welcome, I am really pleased I was able to help ☺️
Miss thank you so much for everything you got the pluralism and heaven question correct ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are very welcome, I am pleased I could help ☺️
todays paper two:
meta ethics, business with util, kantian and natural law!!!
you predicted right on all 4!!!
I know, I think i should be a lottery ticket haha!
absolute legend
Thanks very much 😃
your videos have been so helpful! will you be doing live streams the night before the ocr religious studies exams? :)
Absolutely, all the times and extra details can be found on the blog under same name, also tik tok for more regular updates :)
you were so spot on for philosophy and ethics thank you so much!😭 if only you did Islam too - but anyway your channel really carried me through y12-13 :))
Thank you for your lovely comment, I am so pleased I have been able to help :) I hope your Islam paper goes really well!
thanks so much miss!
You are very welcome :)
Hello Miss, when it says 'Critically asses how Christian communities have responded to the challenge of encounters with other faiths", is this in reference/linked to the bullet point on the spec of 'whether or not Christian communities should seek to convert people from other faiths', obviously referencing the redemptoris missio)? Im not 100% sure how to structure this question, would you just do a paragraph on that Christians should seek to bring people to the Christian faith through inter-faith dialogues, then a paragraphs that they shouldn't etc? Thank you so much for all your help over the past few weeks :)
You could talk about conversion but the question is asking what the challenges might be and how Christianity has overcome them e.g SRM or interfaith dialogue etc. For questions such as these you have to adapt the material you have covered in that topic (as you said Redemptoris Missio) to fit the question. Hope this helps:)
Thank you for this!
Is there a possiblity that they have one question on religious lanaguge and a seperate question on 20th century? Thank you :)
It is a possibility but unlikely as it doesn't test a range of knowledge. And verification came up last year. Hope your exam goes really well tomorrow 🙂
Hi miss, for the utilitarianism question on the ethics paper yesterday my line of argument was that yes - utilitarians do believe profit making is the most important feature of businesses because it conforms to the principle of utility (everyone including business owners, customers and employees win) and i evaluated by using different approaches such as kantian ethics who argue this has led more exploitation due to globalisation and has distracted attention away from i.e corporate social responsibility which is arguably more important) is this okay to write? i felt like that was the only question i found really difficult on the paper
It was a tricky question - this sounds like a really good response with lots of knowledge and key words used and a line of argument. Well done!
For the predicted cosmological argument question would you focus your AO1 on Hume or explaining the cosmological argument
If you mean the Hume question, I would focus on Hume's criticisms whilst at the same time outlining the Cosmological Argument to make it clear what he is arguing against. If you outline the theory first, there is a possibility of describing a lot of theory before actually getting to Hume :)
Hello, I have another question that I thought of- when answering a question about a broad or specific normative theory such as on natural law's doctrine of double effect- rather than just applying one topic such as euthanasia would u suggest giving some application to a second topic?#
No, on a specific noemative question my advice is still to link the rest of the theory to that area e.g DoDE to pp/sp as every part of each theory links together. Only link it to the ethical theory required but in a specific question this isn't required so only do as part of your discussion :)
i know it's hard to say, but do you think in business ethics something on whether or not the concept of corporate social responsibility is nothing more than ‘hypocritical window-dressing,' may come up? I think my teacher said that's the only 'general' business ethics question that hasn't been asked yet, but im not sure. thank you!
That is definitely a possibility! Basically it just means are businesses ethical because it is the right thing to do or is it all for show?
thank you so much for all your help! if we got a nature of God question on omnipotence, would we need to talk about Boethius / Anselm / Swinburne, or would we stick to Descartes / Vardy? :)
Stick with those that directly talk about omnipotence and if as part of your argument Boethius' points for example are relevant bring him in. Only bring in those thinkers that are relevant to the question and your line of argument. All thinkers in this topic are relevant to all areas, you just have to make it clear how :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeach Okay amazing- thank you so so much!
How would you plan/write the question 'Critically assess the view that existence can be treated as a predicate? I can only think of Malcolm's criticism for Kant and wasn't sure if you could apply Gaunilo to this question?
you can talk about Kant’s two criticisms, and then the idea that necessary existence could be a predicate, and then you could mention Hume on necessary existence to counter that
Descartes argues that existence is a predicate, he says “God has all perfections, existence is a perfection, therefore Gods exists” - he also uses the example of a triangle: if a triangle didn’t have three sides; it wouldn’t be a triangle, in relation, if God didn’t exist; he wouldn’t be God.
Treated as a predicate is Anselm's argument then critique it with Kant/ Gaunilo who argue it isn't :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeach Thank you!!
If it’s just a broad utallitarionism question- do you have to talk about both Bentham and mill- as alot of Mills arguments go against Benthams so can become a bit confusing if your against it as a good theory.
I would discuss Bentham and Mill but you can also use Mill as a critic on Bentham to highlight what the issues are and how Mill tried to overcome them and then discuss whether he was successful or not :)
Hello, Your videos are always so useful, Thank you!
I was wondering if you could answer some of my questions: 1. What was the ethics and DCT paper last year? 2. in a broad apply question how many issues should i focus on? 3.If i get a question on a normative ethical theory should i apply it do an apply topic? 4. would you suggest making a broad question your own-ish?
Hi, I'm really pleased my videos are helping :) 1. last year's questions can be found on the ppt on youtube called past questions and gaps. 2. I would stick with 3 issues these show both variety and depth of knowledge 3. if you get a broad normative you do not need to apply unless it helps your argument. 4. not sure what you mean. Hope this helps :)
Hi miss, thank you for this video its super helpful, i wanted to ask if there's a chance of there being a question on act vs rule utilitarianism and if so, how would we aproach the question - once again thank you for the help :)
You are very welcome. So even if the question is specific to an area such as act vs rule you still have to link to the rest of the theory as it all interlinks together e.g act to hedonic calculus and rule to h/l pleasures. Hope that makes sense :)
Thank you!!
Hi miss,
I was about to plan the 2nd question (telos) to the Natural Law topic but it’s has come to my attention, upon research, that the question came up in the November 2020 paper. Is there a chance that it might come up again
They often repeat questions and as this has not been for three years it could quite easily be on this years paper :)
Hi! quick question- regarding the 6 set texts in the person of Jesus topic- could we be asked a question on one of them just as we could be in the gender and society topic?
Yes so they have asked sheep and gosts before in a Q. Knowing the texts mentioned in the spec e.g gender and pluralism texts too is important :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeach thank you ☺️
Quick question - Is Intuitionism in meta ethics is an example of relativism? Though everyone's intuition is different, there is an ethical basis of Ross' prima facie duties.
Hi Sam - why are you linking intuitionism to relativism? I often find labelling theories ends up making things more complicated :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeach Because in a meta ethics question of 'Critically compare relativism with absolutism', I usually give the strengths/weaknesses of an absolutist theory such as ethical naturalism and then emotivism is relative because Ayer says there's no absolute good/bad just feelings (which I explain is better in explaining our moral sense)
So I'm unsure as to whether intuitionism gives more of an absolutist account of our moral sense or a more relative one because, on one hand, no intuition is the same (and so there is no absolute good or bad/right or wrong) but, at the same time, Ross says we are all intuitively aware of prima facie duties and so there is some sort of common moral sense across all people
Thank you for the predictions miss, my school doesnt do developments in christian thought we do Islam, do you know of any resources i could use to try and find a similar prediction?
No I'm sorry I don't. I hope your revision and last two exams go well :)
Why didn’t you put other possibilities/alternatives for the ethics questions?
Because these where the ones that seemed most obvious to me. If you go to the ppt on possible questions/gaps it will give you more options :)
Thanks for this. Just a quick note - Aquinas i listed as Cataphatic Way not Apophatic by OCR
Well spotted!! Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I have added a note in the write up of the video :)
if they asked evaluate the extent to which ethical terms have an objective factual basis which makes them true or false in describing something would we focus paragraph on naturalism or do one on each theory
I would focus on naturalism and then use the others for and against it to say whether it does work or not..I would avoid chunking, focusing whole paragraphs on another argument :)
For the question 'Ethical terms are meaningless' would you say that Intuitionists say they are meaningless or meaningful? I normally say meaningless as they can't be defined but I'm never sure
Thanks for your question Olivia, each argument would say that they have meaning but only in the context of their argument e.g via intuition. Your job is to say which argument is better and thus meaningful, if all don't work then it is meaningless :)
3/4 Match with my teacher, aside from Plato/Aristotle. Do you think these predictions have a high likelihood of coming up?
Which other question does your teacher think? It is so hard to tell but I would be very surprised if at least one of these areas didn't come up :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeach Nature of God, Religious Language, but A Priori and A Posteiori as two separate questions. I'll also have a quick look at the other sections
@@IThinkThereforeITeach Instead of Sex Ethics, Natural Law and Euthanasia. Instead of Jesus, Christain Moral Principles. So it's a big match, which (I think) makes me more assured they will come up. I am not sure if OCR follow a trend for exam questions
That really interesting to know what your teacher thinks, thanks for letting me know. Good luck with your revision :)
For the question 'No theory is useful when dealing with issues surrounding homosexuality' would I have to talk about all 4 ethical theories or could I just do three, criticise them and agree with the statement overall saying none are useful as they're all flawed
You do not need to mention all 4, I recommend 2-3 theories to apply in order to develop your evaluation and detail :)
do you think they would ask about natural and revealed theology?
it's a possibility but most areas for this topic have been asked so makes it hard to predict a question but it didn't come up last year so be prepared just in case :)
I spoke about the teleological argument in the cosmological question in the exam today am I screwed? 😭
They positively mark so will find parts they can award marks for :)
Hi miss, if sexual ethics was on last years paper, do you really think it could come up again? :)
Hi Ava, it is a possibility as there are a number of gaps on the spec that have not been asked. The justification of my predictions can be found on the blog (under the same name) :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeachthanks so much! I’ll defo check that out. I really appreciate your videos and all the time you spend helping all of us who aren’t even your actual students! Your videos have helped so much with revision that can be tricky at times!!
Hi, thanks so much for this. What will your live stream be like tomorrow? Just wondering. Low-key can't wait for this exam on Monday- i'm begging for a Nature and Attributes of God question!
Hi Cora, I go over what to expect from the paper with kept points and tips then answer questions that students can post 🙂
@@IThinkThereforeITeach Thank you, can't wait- it's all come round so fast!
heyy do you have any predicitions for the buddhism paper
I am sorry I don't, I only teach Christianity :)
didn't pluralism and society come up last year?
Pluralism and Theology came up last year :)
Good start on the philosophy ones well done! I just really the ethics ones are wrong because I am NOT a fan of those ones :(
Ethics are harder to predict, focus on your four arguments and these will get you a long way in your next exam. Hope your revision for ethics goes really well :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeach I will do, also thank you for all your videos, you have been a great help for me the last 2 years!
I rlly want gender for paper 3 :(
I think it is a good possibility 🤔
Can they ask something from the same topic twice?
Yes it is possible but doesn't often happen, usually in ethics where there is a lot of overlap. The examiner's want to test a range of knowledge so asking from one area is possible but not expected :)
Hi miss why don’t you think Kant will come up?
He certainly could do but as he came up last year, I think there are other possibilities. Always best to revise everything - just in case :)
@@IThinkThereforeITeachthank you!
@@IThinkThereforeITeach hi miss do you think a question like Kants ethics relies on the idea of God would come up ? Or like assess the view that Kants ethics is ultimately reliant of the idea of God !? Because I’ve never seen a question like that but there is a spec point about God
By the way, Aquinas' analogical language for God is cataphatic, not apophatic.
Nvm this has already been corrected
I know, well spotted, it has already been brought to my attention and I mention it in the video write up :) hope your exam goes well tomorrow
@@IThinkThereforeITeachahh i wrote about it as apophatic, and most of my evaluations were about this do you think i’ll fail haha
do you think soul mind body would come up again😓
It's a possibility as there are gaps that have not been asked before and it didn't come up last year :)
I pray for anything but Plato and Aristotle in philosophy 🙏
Me too I hate them lol
That's a good position to be in, hope it goes really well tomorrow 🙂
If i argued jesus is truly unique could i just say yes bcs he is son of god, teacher and liberator if not how else would you answer ??
Yes so 1 paragraph on him being son of God and 1 against (political liberator) and another against (teacher)
Discuss how you know he is unique and thus not fully human, such as his miracles. His teachings could just be human teachings so no different from Abraham or Moses so how is Jesus unique -only being the incarnate makes him unique so discussing whether he is or not. Hope that makes sense :)
