this roogue trooper is based on a comic book ..I SAW A BUNCH OF FAN ARTS ON INSTAGRAM and on pinterest ,like as if this was really a comic book...i didnt know they where super soldiers that were like the clone troopers on star wars. .but blue ,,cool idea. .they have cool designs too ..but this game got a bad score on gamespot at the time , unfortunatelly ..i remember this game back in the day , i didnt want to download it back in the day ,but it was not so bad ..im sure i would had liked it...im also wanting to do a fan art of something like it about that character for some reasson, maybe its because will smith aladin or the captain marvel kree species .who knows .
I dunno it's pretty hard to trust a guy named bagman. Bagmen are pretty much employed to shoot your in your back after you take the bag.
I believe they're just nicknames based on a specific skillset they had since all of them are pretty much clones though it seems to have the super hero logic where their names coincidentally end up being relevant to what they become.

Nope the game has nothing to do with Army Men. Rogue Trooper is a 2000AD strip. Same as Judge Dredd.

Decided to look this up and apparently this got an HD remaster with updated graphics a bit over a year ago. Surprised they're not playing that instead. James could enjoy that brief second of bloobs in HD then.

tbh there's some pretty decent animation in this game. The run cycles and some of the interaction looks really good, from an animator's perspective.
There's an HD remake of the game that's pretty great!
plus it is one of the first games to use modern cover system mechanics like we have today

Apparently Rogue Trooper (the comic) first launched in 1981. I was gonna accuse it of copying Warhammer 40k’s Apeptus Astartes, mainly in them both being genetically enhanced super-soldiers based on a genetic template, one that can be salvaged by cutting into a dead soldier’s neck. However. It appears the opposite is true. Key aspects of the Emperor’s Finest appear to be stolen from some shirtless blue guy.
James' joke about Adam looking brave but really running away is literally the entire character of Ciphais Cain from 40k tho :P

I know it's an old thread and I doubt this conversation will continue, but doesn't Warhammer borrow a lot from other properties? I've heard the primarchs and astropaths from 40K are pretty much pulled from Dune, though I know more 40K lore than I do Dune.

The love of Army Men has not died out. Rising Storm 2: Vietnam had a Christmas map where you played in a living room as tiny Army Men and it was awesome.

When I was deployed to Iraq I remember reading a poorly written novel about some genetic soldier dude who had three microchips that contained his dead squadmates' personalities, each of which was inserted into a piece of his gear (rifle, helmet, and something else I can't recall). Pretty sure it was either fluff from this game or the material it was based off of.
Rogue Trooper is a 2000AD comic series, like Judge Dredd... I know the latter has novelisations, maybe RT did too?

The story is pretty depressing but awesome, it actually covers two soldiers called Rogue and Friday.

Army Men doesn't have anything to do with this. Rogue Trooper is based on a comic series by 2000 AD, who also publish Judge Dredd.

Used to read this back in the day and when Altered Carbon came about I tried to tell anyone who'd listen that the microchip idea was a rip off. Not many people actually listened though...so I'm venting on the internet like the true Millenial I am!

Rogue trooper comes from the 2000 A.D. comics, 3DO actually did a game about a special army men but it was called something else and it came waay before this one.

Duncan Jones would love this, he's directing the movie. Played this on my Pentium IV.
You can scrap every unit in this game including mechs, mine dots and gun pods (you also can sneak for gun pod and kill it in melee action with scrap boost)
I loved this game so much, I've played it like 10 times. And now I'm very excited to see you guys playing through it and have a good time.

Comic book to video game - actually a fun game to be honest :) Early on in the game (first 1/2 hour) your team mates die and you safe them by inserting their chips into your equipment and they talk to you ... its cool!

TIL there is a rogue trooper adaptation be produced by Sam Worthingtons production company to be directed by Duncan Jones (David bowies son). If you don't understand the layers of importance this has for the funhaus cinematic universe--look into it and get back to me.
Holy shit, I remember playing this game. I loved it as a kid.
Rogue trooper, the first cover based shooter, which nobody remembers. Kinda ironic that a game with no cover option, resident evil 4, is remembered as the grandfather of cover based shooters but this right here was the real grandfather of the genre.
WinBack: Corvert Operations N64 - 1999/ Ps2 - 2001. Don't know about the N64 version but Ps2 had cover shooter (though it was lock-on).
Kill.Switch (2003) also a cover based shooter.
