Acid used as an attribute to other styles, doesnt mean its just a techno thing.. And square kick (distorted) is a fairly hardcore thing. I think what clair is trying to do is to reminisce the 90's where Hard trance / techno / Hardcore were clumped under a term caled "Rave". This sounds of typical 90's hard trance just... better mastered obviously as we have better equipment/techniques.
