    There is a slight omission of information regarding an exam called the USMLE. These are a series of exams (lasting minimum 8hrs each) that need to be given in order to get into residency in the USA and in the process, an MBBS graduate from India is not only competing with people with equivalent degrees from other countries but also with those who have graduated from the medical schools in the US to get a spot for residency. This is the part where the real competition of becoming a doctor in the US lies.
    Also, anyone who wants to practice medicine in the US has to complete his/her residency to become a physician. There is no concept of practicing medicine as a licenced doctor once you complete medical school (or its equivalent - MBBS) as they do in India. Every doctor in the US is specialized in a particular field.
    Just some additional information for anyone interested.

    I am a pre-med student living in Canada. I would like to say a few things to clarify certain aspects of this session.
    1 - I know a few students that did their MBBS in India, and then they came back to the US or Canada. MBBS is indeed recognized in the US and in Canada, but there could be some issues in obtaining the licence to work as a qualified physician after the four years of MD.
    2 - If you are a domestic student in the US or Canada (domestic student = you have the citizenship, PR card or Green Card), then your tuition cost would be much lower than that of an international student.
    3 - I have friends from India that study with me. They never went back to India in the last two years and this is because we hardly get 10-15 days off between one semester and the other, and the ticket fare is high. It could range anywhere from $1,400-2,000, so it is really not possible to make two trips a year back to India.
    4 - I searched and I found out that in India there are 460 medical colleges as per 2017. In Canada, there are only 17, three of which, teach exclusively in French. In the US, there are 143 medical colleges. Believe it or not, getting into a med school abroad can be challenging. Our application is not based on one exam, but it is based on a few things, such as the GPA of the Bachelor's Degree, the MCAT score, the personal profile, which includes any work, volunteer experience you might have. We also have an interview. Sometimes there have been cases where a student has a high GPA and an excellent MCAT score, but the personal profile was bad.

      Please share ur emailid

    • @ssimrxngill1
      @ssimrxngill1 4 роки тому +16

      @@samir7091 Hi Samir,
      I hope you are doing well. I am a pre-medical student studying in Canada. First of all, MBBS in the US, and Canada is known as MD, which stands for Doctor of Medicine. The process of getting into a medical school in Canada is similar to that in the US; you can listen to Aman and Harnoor's conversation.
      If you are currently in India, then you need to apply to a university in Canada for an undergraduate degree. You may want to choose a degree in the science or engineering field. Make sure to take prerequisite courses, such as physics I and physics II with labs, general chemistry I and II with labs, English, General Biology I and II with labs, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry I and II with labs. I would highly recommend choosing a degree that you like. Do not choose a degree that you are not interested in because if you do not get into medical school, then at least you will have a degree that will get you a decent job or open up new pathways. The undergraduate degree will take you anytime between 3-5 years. The time depends on:
      - The degree you choose.
      - How many courses are you taking per semester?
      - Are you taking courses in all three semesters or are you taking a gap semester?
      It is important to maintain a high GPA. Medical Schools have their cut-off. Usually, the admission committee takes in students that have a GPA above 3.7. However, a high GPA does not guarantee that you will be admitted to a medical school. Your MCAT score, your extracurricular activities play a crucial role in determining your admission to a medical school.
      Usually, pre-medical students write the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) in their last year of the undergraduate degree. You can take the MCAT up to three times in a calendar year, with a lifetime maximum of 7 attempts. The MCAT is a 7.5-hour exam that consists of four sections:
      1) Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems;
      2) Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems;
      3) Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior;
      4) Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills.
      The exam has 528 questions. You can find more information about medical school and the MCAT exam on this website: www.aamc.org/.
      While you are doing your undergraduate degree, you should also volunteer and/or work. You can volunteer in hospitals, food banks, home care, etc. What the interviewers are looking for is that you are passionate about your volunteering position(s). They look for consistency. Did you volunteer for two weeks and then stopped? Or did you volunteer over a long period? You could also do some research at your university. It always looks great to have some research experience on your resume. As far as I know, in Canada, you are not allowed to shadow physicians, so you will not get clinical experience, but that is completely okay. In the US, you can.
      Pre-medical students apply to medical schools in the last year of their undergraduate degree. In Canada, there are 17 medical schools. Check out this link to see the names and places of the medical schools across Canada: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_medical_schools_in_Canada.
      3 of 17 medical schools in Canada teach exclusively in French, and 14 others teach in English. Do not apply to just one medical school, apply to as many as you can. Keep in mind that only a few of the 14 medical schools across Canada accept international students. If you are a permanent resident or you possess a Canadian Citizenship, then there is nothing to worry about.
      In the first round of the application, the admission committee will invite students above the cut-off in terms of MCAT exam and GPA to an interview stage. The second round of the application is the interview. If you pass the interview, then you are admitted to the medical college.
      This is a general pathway to get into medical school. I am not an expert. You should do your research on this, and see what works best for you. I hope this helps you!!

    • @ssimrxngill1
      @ssimrxngill1 4 роки тому +4

      @@roopali162000 Maybe I was not clear enough, but 3 of the 17 medical colleges in Canada teach exclusively in French. The other 14 teach in English. The University of British Columbia, UBC has the highest number of seats: 288. All other medical schools have fewer seats. The Northern School of Medicine has only 64 seats, which means that they only accept 64 students per year. Also, there is an agreement between the US and Canada in medical schools, which allows students from the US to study in Canada. So some of the students that study in a medical college in Canada are from the US. I have two friends. One moved to Ireland and the other moved to Australia to attend medical schools because they did not get in a medical school in Canada despite having excellent grades and lots of extracurricular activities. I am not saying that there is no competition in India. There is. I know that NEET and other entrance exams in India are extremely hard, but if you try to get into a medical school in Canada or in the US, you will know that it also hard since we have all the other requirements to fulfill :)

I know it’s quite a bit expensive but the gain is absolutely worth it and you can cover you expenses for those 8 year within 2 year of your practice. In US, you have to first do a bachelor's degree related to bio. Than you give a MCAT exam then you go for MD physician which is a 4 year program.
    In India,
    You go for NEET after 12th and then MBBS of 5.5 yrs.
    MBBS in India is somewhat relevant to MD physician in USA.
    MBBS from India is recognised in USA, and MD physician in USA is also recognised in India.
    But post-graduation in from both countries is not valid anywhere.
    Conclusion.
    Best you can do is do MBBS from India and go for PG in US.

    If anyone gets chance to study medicine abroad they should definitely go because the quality of life of doctors there is far more better than India. And moreover a student gets freedom from the rat race of government exams in India.
    And the quality of mbbs in abroad is also far more better because you will be using superior qualities of studies for giving superior treatment. How many sportman or filmstar do you see getting their surgery done in India?? Hardly none.
    So quality matters because the studying in India you dont get that even at AIIMS.
    And the pollution level at Delhi and all metro cities are also increasing. And also if you look at the political situation in India then also you will not feel motivated to study in India.

  • @nisargsomani6797

    The proper way to become doctor in US is (video aint given much info):
    First 4 year bachelor degree b4 that SAT is must (mentioned in video).
    Then give MCAT for medical school (4 years)
    Then if u want to work and earn dollars then USMLE u must give for 4 years residency as general physician or along way u can choose your speciality . (NOTE: u won't be paid as a regular doctor but as a junior doctor).Also speciality would require 1 or 2 additional years(depends).
    Then u can apply to American Medical board for ur license. In short 12 to some years
    Also in India MBBS is almost 6 yrs then pg for 3 years,i.e. for M.D or M.S.(Master in Surgery) and then super speciality if interested than 3 years.

    Please stop nationalizing the facts, Everyone is talking about aiims, i am junior resident doctor currently in India, differences there are 112 pg seats in aiims, there are around 30,000 mbbs graduates in India every year, i am generalizing the seats apart from dividing them the reserved and unreserved, which is a different topic on its on, so if we assume that these people are applying for a pg exam excluding people who have studying outside India and graduated which is also around 30,000 which i am excluding for the time being, so each mbbs student has a 0.0037 percent chance of getting admitted in aiims. Talk about facts not what everyone thinks is right i am a doctor and i am sharing my perspective, our internship is mandatory unlike other professions, in which interns need to be in hospitals for sometimes even 24 hours and just getting paid aroung 17k a month, working in pressure, and about pist graduation, lets assume you get through the aiims pg exams so you will get a good salary but the odds of getting there is 0.0037 percent and other colleges neet pg you get a stipend of around 30k if you get into a government college, but then government colleges have fees though minimal you need to pay and then reserved categories whereas USA doesnt have a fee structure for pg instead they pay you around 50k usd, yes things are expensive, but it is the lifestyle that matters ultimately and there we dont have class based lectures as the entire education system here is based on mugging up rather than actually doing real life based scenarios, teachers here are also partial will give good grades to students who are lovable to them contrary to equality there in the USA. I have seen and heard from both sides of the spectrum i have doctor friends who are aiims graduates and studying in USA so i know, people who are just saying what they think is their perspective without having any experience either of the two spectrums. Holding opinions is a different thing and actually going through the whole process is entirely a different ball game, once you go through the whole process it is entirely opposite to the things you have ever thought. Hold opinions don’t force people to accept your opinions as those are your opinions.

    Indian MBBS is a Bachelors degree while USA MD degree is not a Bachelors degree but a professional degree considered equal to PhD degree. For Indians to enter USA medical school they need to have US citizenship and Green Card.US medical schools do not select non-citizens.Also entering a medical school is more difficult because they need life experiences just having perfect MCAT score and a perfect GPA in college would not help you enter a medical school.The four years of college in USA is superior to Indian Bachelors degree of three years. Yes US physicians make anywhere from 200K to 500K depending on specialty.

    you can earn even much more in India there is no cap for it. I have doctors in my family who earns maybe much more than that. 2.5 crore in the US doesn't feel much but in India, it's huge. So the only factor is your talent.

    3000 dollars as a resident is not enough as cost of living in USA is very high.Residents in India live a more comfortable life as cost of living is less in India.

    What about the donations for MBBS in Govt. Colleges like AIIMS? It's about 50lakh INR! Only fees doesn't matter the corrupt politics and competition also matter. Yes, USA will be very expensive too but India is no less!
    My personal experience:- Officials asked for around 50lakhs donation for my sister's admission in AIIMS, even though she is very, very Intelligent and passionate for studying medical...this is the "Harsh Reality" guys😔

    • @Imperfect5252

      Aiims admission is based only on entrance exams. It doesn't ask for donations as in private colleges. Everyone knows that.

    That is not the reality, you will be taxed in the 33% bracket for federal income tax as well as 2-10% state tax (depending on location). So almost 35-43%, now do the math
    Only fellow trained gastro or cardiologist private practice physicians earn $400,000 and it’s very expensive to set up so you will have huge loan and malpractice insurance to cover as well as other employee salaries to pay at your practice.
    Yes a physician will live comfortably but average salary is $250,000 for IM, FM and pediatrics before tax deductions.
    I think the fact that you will have at least 1 day off/week in residency, get an adequate stipend during the training, better quality teaching, more value based patient care are better influential factors rather than the salary of an attending physician.
    It would be great if you interviewed a US resident who has gone through the experience of matching.

    Stupid and greedy people are comparing apple to oranges. If a person is earning 2.5 cr in America then his cost of living would be 10 times higher than india. If a specialist in india is earning around 80 lac to 90 lac per year then he would enjoy the same luxuries the one who is working in the US like a donkey. Get some life guys. Money does matter but its not the only thing that matters in life.
