They had to walk long distance from frontline to safely load on the vehicle. Every time the transport comes close to the frontline it becomes a primary target for orcs' artillery.
Probably also not as the crow flies, selecting only safe routes, or along known transport pickups.
Got the same injury in Afghanistan too the arm but off a bullet, mind unfortunately then when into my stuff after bouncing off my rifle. This lad survived im so happy and wish him luck for the nerve healing
