My favourite Dionne Warwick song. Bacharach and David were fantabulous songwriters. I can listen to this again ... and again ... and again ... sweet memories ... odds and ends of a beautiful love affair ... why wasn't this a massive hit? Greetings to one and all from Big Hugh of Mundlimup in wonderful Western Australia ... toothpaste? ... yeah ... don't forget to brush your teeth regularly ... Cheers!
Very descriptive of a love affair sung very light and airy yet the pathos are there of a beautiful love affair gone wrong without apparent cause. That voice alone could only elicit those emotions. Dionne, the best.
It's hard to believe that this song never reached higher than No. 43 on the Billboard charts (in the summer of 1969). In my opinion, this song and "This Empty Place" are Dionne's very best song, though neither was a big-time chart hit for her.
What's cool about this song is it has the word "odd" in it which is a word you rarely hear in songs and the music is odd considering the words, happy go lucky like she is trying to remain positive despite a pretty bad thing happening which is how people react a lot of the time before they break down. pretty brilliant song.
Love the song. Sadly it was not a tremendous hit when released and it doesn't get much airplay nowadays. But a song need not be a big hit to be a good piece of music.
@naturaltoby far from an expert on music (piano-lesson dropout, I'm afraid), but Bacharach's music is really notable for the really offbeat turns of melody and rhythm he took. It's what makes his stuff such a pleasure to listen to. Especially when he did the orchestrations himself.
The very best Warwick collaboration with Bacharach & David in my opinion. Wistful & sad, but not maudlin--with a perky melody. Should have been a much bigger hit. Dionne herself was dismissive of the song, however; she called it "just another Bacharach/David song." How wrong she was!

Absolutely, totally beautiful song!
This is a tune you never hear in tributes to Bacharach and David, How come? Lovely that you have uploadus this.
Catchy, witty and to the point that it's over! I always liked this, and Dionne had SO many
great songs! Thanks for posting it.

Excellent job.
Johnny Mathis's version touches me much more.
@Jarrahnut Very glad you enjoyed it and all my best to everyone in Western Austraila! Which is probably cooler than it is here right now . . .

@oneeyedstar WHO GETS THE GUY is a favorite song of mine as well. And glad you like the video.

@primogennaio My thoughts exactly
your pillow wasn't slept upon/your closet was empty, too/all of your shirts and ties were gone/there wasn't a trace of you
Sounds like the Beach Boys. Brian lived next door to Burt at the time, and this may be the happy result. I wish the Beach Boys had done this!
