I know we've moved a good deal beyond needing this kind of validation, but my heart still swells with pride when something very professional and commemorative is made about videogames. I just think back to all the people squared away in their own rooms or within their own friend groups breaking out and celebrating what was a HUGE part of our childhood -- a part that wasn't always given a good reputation, and sometimes vilified.
And this project isn't about selling games or promoting releases or anything to do with the industry itself, it's about the player-side love and USE of all games -- not marketing. I'm just proud of games.

As someone who grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa ("The Video Game Capital of the World"), video games have always been a huge part of my life. It's really great to see that a group of passionate people have taken the time and the care to put this museum together. There was talk several years back about doing a similar thing in Ottumwa, but the people involved completely mismanaged everything and it fell apart.
Anyway, this is a great excuse to take a trip to Texas!

I just went to this place recently and it was very cool. Seeing all the rare stuff in person was so cool, probably the only time I'll see them in my life I see a Panasonic GameCube, play a virtual boy, and play Battlezone(which was really addictive).
I loved their hand held corner there. Seeing all the GBA they have and the E reader cards was so crazy. First time ever seeing those in person and they were all sealed. Probably were forgotten inside a random box at a retail store since they weren't big sellers.
Also that late 70s early 80s living room was an exact replica. My mom got a big kick out of the picture I sent her. I think it was that couch and that blanket that did it.
Just being able to go there and play a game for an hour is such a trivial idea for a Museum. They just had the systems set up like how we do at home. You can totally start a new save, eject the disc/cartridge, or exit to the systems menu. I love the wall of systems and games for anyone to just play. I wish there was a few other games to pick from. If I lived in Texas then I would go back with copies of my own games and play them and their systems
Some things I would like to see them improved is a gallery of games for all systems. But that's a lot of space to have all that. They have a section for DK but not for Mario or Zelda. I love Donkey Kong Country as much as the next guy, first game I had for the SNES, but those characters have had a bigger impact on the history of games. So seeing a section similar to the DK one for Zelda and Mario would be great. Also it would be cool if there was a LAN area where you could play local multiplayer games. I think it could really add to the history online play. This is what we did before the internet was really big, we got 4 tv with 4 systems and connected them all to a local network and played games. Would be awesome if they had 16 man Double Dash or Halo 2 going
Definitely will be returning to this place whenever I go to the Dallas Ft.Worth Metroplex.

This video was why I pushed so hard to finally go to the NVGM. My Girlfriend at the time (Now Wife) Was in Texas for work and she asked I flew down for a week I had off to keep her company. Long and the short of it I talked her in to going and man, I felt like a kid in a candy store. I am not one for pictures, but I took over 300 that day, Got the tour with one of the owners, think it was John not sure and overall just had a really fun trip. Hoping to go back again someday.

Around the same time as this one, a similar game museum opened in Tampere, Finland too! I really recommend that one if you're in the area, it has playable exhibits and game history, typical kids' bedrooms and old living rooms, and also a complete arcade. It has a bit more focus on Finnish game culture. It's a really nice place, I've gone there twice.

+Ollie Taylor As someone who goes there multiple times a year, as I live about an hour down the Garden State Parkway from it, the Digital Press store is easily one of the best video game stores I have ever been to. The staff is friendly, the other store patrons are cool to talk with, and the selection of games to buy is so extensive & well organized that it's amazing that it all fits within a store as small as it is. Joe Santulli is also a nice guy from the one time I met him; ended up selling a Dreamcast Broadband Adapter that required a personal deal with Joe himself.
The museum, though, already looks amazing. Not sure if I'll ever actually go there, but if I ever do I'm sure I'd love it.

+east3myway I'm a regular there too, it's a 10 minute drive for me. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable (regulars are more than willing to answer questions and shoot the breeze too!), the stock changes daily thanks to trades, and important/rare stuff gets posted to their social media as it comes in. Their arcade machines are also great, only a quarter a play, it's where I go if I want to practice shmups away from my tv and monitors.

Can't wait to go to the NVM! Growing up in the Clifton area Digital Press was the place to be! I always pass there at least once a month just to get nostalgic, play games, and have good convo with good people. I don't get to go much anymore since I live an hour away but it's a special place to me and everyone that loves video games should go to Digital Press to see where it all started and meet Joe! He's a super awesome guy!

I was there when it first opened. It was so cool. We had a Master Chief walking around with people asking for pictures, a high school band playing famous video game music, and so much more. I gotta say, I loved coming to this place, and I can't wait to see what else they got next if what they're planning for it is true. If they do plan showcase 12k video games for all to play, better make sure they get security for that god knows, someone might try to steal that stuff.

Digital Press is a video game store in Clifton, New Jersey. They sell both old and new games there. I go there sometimes to get old video games for the NES, Famicom, N64, Super Famicom, Genesis/ Mega Drive, Gamecube, Gamegear, etc. It's a really great place. They even have arcade machines you could play. I mostly play the Donkey Kong 3 cabinet. Every last Friday or Saturday (I don't actually remember) of the month, they have a party and people go to sell there old games. I once came across a rare Mega Drive game that was of Disney's Bonkers that one of the people were selling. The game was from Korea. It's a really great place and I recommend it to any gamer.

8:22 There's that Pioneer LaserActive kiosk that I almost purchased. I was in negotiation over shipping with the eBay seller when he suddenly took the listing down and broke communication. I found out a year later, after contacting him again, that he had been approached by this museum and sold it to them instead.
I'm honestly quite glad it ended up at the museum, but I wish the seller would have told me instead of leaving me in the dark.

Dude, years ago a work partner of mine go to E3 an the traveling version of the museo was there, they sent me tons of footage to work on a video about it. My partner interview the other two owners of the collection, he nicknamethem "The sad fat boys of video games", because in the interview the left very clear that "the museum has no home" and nobody was given them the attention they needed. It's realy cool to see that they have got a place for all their stuff, they deserve it. Well sorry for the realy bad caligraphy but im from argentina and is realy late here xD Your channel it's one of my favorites so keep the good work!

I do love these sorts of museums. There's a gaming museum in Edingburgh last year that I tried to go to but they were so full they couldn't let anyone in for hours. Used to go to a travelling exhibit called Game On that came to London a few times. They were usually pretty good although last time I went it was at the Science Museum and they only let you stay in there for an hour. There was far too much to see in that time. Cool stuff there though. Played Guitar Hero on a huge projector. Played the Donkey Kong and Asteroids arcade machines and had a go on Space War on a replication of the PDP-1. Hopefully they get their archive sorted because that's something the industry really needs, along with methods to host online only games past their life span.
