you have to perfectly time pressing A on the moment you slam the ghost to the ground. back and fourth.

Here's a tip: Keep sucking the ghosts until you can no longer suck them after they're low use the slam move it's really good

here’s another tip: While you’re slamming a hammer at high HP, let go before the seventh slam, and start capturing again.
