In a nutshell, I ‘m an avid dumpster diver, scrapper, picker, treasure hunter and underwater connoisseur. I prowl the city streets in search of dumpster loot, curbside treasures & scrap metal as well as scour the river bottoms for lost valuables during the summer months when I can scrounge up enough money for gas. Rescued a dumped of 6mth old kitten two days before. Hurricane!! It's been 5 years she's my sweety, yes you can find great stuff dumpster diving. Lol
Always nice when the owners give the go ahead. Saves them money, really, and the smart ones realize that. Used to have a business based on diverting the stuff before it ever hit the bins. Got some great stuff.
They pay per pound for pick up? That's what I heard anyway. I got bust one time some acting like it their personal possession's.
I would always ask if it's a personal bin to a house but here in Canada it's legal anyways what's thrown out is thrown out!
Worked for a company that threw out massive amounts of scrap plastic. One dude ended up creating a business around taking their and other businesses plastics and recycling it into some sort of building material.
@@lanna7917 That's typical for a business/industrial dumpster anymore.. the landfills charge by the pound or hundredweight so the refuse service charges the same +15%

I find it amazing companies that throw out that much metal don’t have something set up with a recycling company to recover some of their costs, just more for you Mike. It is sad thinking about how much recyclable materials wind up in landfills though
The company rents the bin when the bin fills up the pay to have it emptied. Cheap easy and dirty.
And the cardboard.... Now I know why are we cutting down that much trees

@King Meak - Hey, fellow Chattanoogan! I grew up in Apison and now live in Eastridge. My husband and I used to watch the dumpster divers rummage through the dumpsters behind the Eastridge Flea Market, Dollar Store and the (now) closed Food City, from our back porch. It was pretty funny when they found a stash of good stuff.
I appreciate that you are a hard worker and you have fun doing it. Watching you work helps me relax.

One of the best things about finding so much in one dumpster "saveing on gas".
Awesome, so glad made contact and they were sensible, good about it. After all, far better for it all to go to scrap and re-cycle rather than to land-fill. And we can all attest to the fact that you always clean up after a dumpster dive.

Hey Mike, make sure you take the cash drawers out of the enclosures and check for cash that fell behind the tray. I worked on those registers for years and would find quite a bit of cash all the time.
Yepper. Not too long ago I was replacing a cash drawer at a local restaurant and found a 20 dollar bill behind the till. The manager was pretty happy when I handed it over to her.

Hey Mike, just tell them next time that you were scheduled for a (Dumpster Internal Weld Inspection), and that you have to get everything out of the dumpster in order to verify the welds are good.
Brahh that or he's part of the City Recycling Org to make sure people are not dumping waste products that can lead to city violations by the property

I'm from kentucky and i worked retail. a lot of times scanners and electronic equipment will be put in storage if it's still good useable stuff during a remodel of a store or if one of their stores goes out of business. so say a store in texas needs stuff like that and its in storage in kentucky it will be shipped to that store in texas till it's of no use and it all goes in the dumpster for you to find.
Mike, you should of just hooked up that trash bin to your truck and took off it would have been easier 🤣

As always another awesome video for us Scrap lovers! Have you ever thought of going up to some of the businesses and maybe striking a deal to take away the scrap from them for free with permission? We do it all the time in the UK. Love the videos Mike!
They may not be able to do that. I worked for a company that made Audio and video servers back in 2006. The guys in the warehouse would tear down customer returns and toss everything. Memory, DVD/CD drives, motherboards etc. We asked if we could have some of it, they said "No" but one of the managers said as long as they saw it being put in the dumpster, whatever happened after that he didn't care about. We's come back a few hours later.

Hi Mike be safe! I have to say, when those 2 guys walked up on you, didn't have any idea what to think. I am glad they just came up with open minds, not with their guns drawn out ready to do some damage to somebody. Kind of risky there Mike. You better take care when you are doing that stuff, otherwise you got a pretty good lick off for that dumpster.

Big Score, well done, At my work we throw a lot of steel and aluminium out. I asked about it and now I get all of the scrap metal and they save on not having a scrap metal bin around. As long as I haul it away reasonably quick all is ok.
We use heavy steel tooling moulds and sometimes I will get 600/700 kg at a time, it's giving a bit of spending money for my other hobbies.

Mike!!! Anytime you see a cash drawer… anytime… don’t just open, but pull the drawer out! They often have cash in them! Imagine if you will a 20$ bill slot full, bill curls up, when the drawer is opened, it slips back in behind the drawer. I worked at a dollar store years ago and found a lot of cash behind drawers.
Dear Mike, as a Mom I worry so much when you walk on the edge of those tall dumpsters. I have to look away with a wave of vertigo. Also, you keep some Bactine or wound cleanser in your truck? Neosporin? Just worrying about you. Always enjoy seeing what treasures you find. But also worrying too! Glad you had a great find tonight.

The biggest mistake is jumping down hard so often. There's a couple of Total Knee Replacements in your future. Just got mine so I know what I'm talking about. Believe me it ain't no fun

I had that done in a city construction dumpster. It was cold af so I didn't think the rent a pigs would be out. WRONG. They made me put back all the scrap I'd taken like a half hour to get.

What an excellent working platform straight from the back of your truck. You should have been unloading dumpsters like this all the time Mike. Live and learn I always say,
U should take the printers they just have a plastic shell but it’s a lot of metal inside plus u could take the ink cartridge out before putting them in ur truck

A lot of Point-Of-Sale cash drawers. I picked a POS free from Craigslist. while trying to find out why I could not get the drawer to open by a keyboard press I took the drawer out and looked into the box. Found a $100 and a $10 in there. I called the person that gave it to me and returned the money. Karma
