‘I ain’t scared of your brother, I ain’t scared of no sheets…’ my favourite line in this song. Michael Jackson, most popular artist on the Planet, at the peak of his powers, directly challenging the KKK on a catchy, global number one pop song. Unreal. #MJForever
Michael was one of the original beatboxer; alot of his beats are made from his own beatboxing ; he talks about and does it in interviews if you watch them ; dude was one of a kind
This is perhaps Michael's most iconic video. It has an important message and was, as all of his music videos, groundbreaking. The morphing is so well done. I mean this is 1991! My absolute favorite song by Micheal is "Stranger in Moscow". It's an underrated gem.
I also believe we will never again see a single entertainer with a life time of extreme talent & extreme success. Can you honestly see anyone else ever selling worldwide over 100 million copies of one album alone? He will be remembered throughout history.
You're right about the instrumental. Michael created the guitar riff by humming it, although he didn't have a specific instrument in mind. It was a good choice in the studio to make it guitar, it fits that instrument well.
This is the shorter version of the video. It was very controversial back in the day because of the scenes after the song ends. Great song and the video is perfect with all those effects. My generation was very lucky for having Michael Jackson as part of our soundtrack.
'I'm not gonna spend my life being a colour'... i just love that line. And the video is really top notch. These morphing effects in the early nineties? they were really hard to do at that time. When this album came out i was just 12 years old and had a friend who was a big MJ fan and he really convinced me to be a fan as well. I really liked that song and others from the Dangerous album first, before discovering his previous works and actually finding out that my parents still owned the Thriller album on LP. In the end 'Bad' was and is my favourite album though. But it has to be the version that also contains the song 'Leave me alone' which i knew from the MJ movie Moonwalker.
That morph effect is still hard to create to this day. Not because you need complex software, but because you have to plan it, cast it, light it and film it the right way. At least before AI Video explodes further, which will happen before the end of 2023. But it stands the test of time and will remain provoking the WOW effect because the whole piece is very well crafted.
I remember when everybody was waiting to watch this.!! Literally HALF A BILLION people watched it live, 6 different major channels MTV, VH1, BET, FOX, BBC, etc.. ( NOBODY WILL EVER TOP THAT.)... It was dark out around dinner time when Myself,(8 years old) my Mom(R.I.P.) & my Brother watched... It was like the whole world stopped working, talking, damn probably even stopped fighting just to watch this masterpiece... I'M BLESSED TO WITNESS THIS & MOONWALKER with Joe Pesci or most people remember the Short version(SMOOTH CRIMINAL)!!! If I'm not mistaken I think they did Thriller, Speed Demon, etc... like this too I think!?🤔 MJ TRIED TO BRING THE WORLD TOGETHER...!!! MJ=🐐 🥇🌎🫱🏿🫲🏼

You remind me of how I truly enjoyed this music video when I was watching this as a kid. All the head bopping and moving around but still focused on the video. It was pure joy.
Think I was in my freshman year of highschool when this video first came out. If I remember correctly it debuted on five different networks at the same time. The hype for this video was off the charts. I will liken it to a major movie release. Still one of, if not my favorite mj video of all time.
I always remember the day this launched. Was a big thing in the UK to watch Top of the pops on Thursday nights and we all were anticipating it’s launch. The full version was played (this is short and not the full ‘short film’ and it cause d a bit of controversy to say the least lol
I liked the morphing of the people in the end. It shows how similar we all are. Each one shared some facial feature connecting them even though they were different ethnicities.
This was super cool, Mj was a force to be reckoned with (RIP), you should definitely check out Blame it on the boogie next is super funk-disco based but it is soo much fun, so itd be awesome for you to check that out.
The ‘rap’ is actually by the producer, Bill Bottrel, he recorded it with the intention of letting Michael hear it then have someone else do it properly… but Michael liked Bill doing it and just used that! Genius
you're right about some of the themes explored here being based on his own experiences. well he was of course a black artist in a white dominated music industry (that owes so much to black people). i believe the channel the detail has a video on mj's experiences with racism. speaking of which, in case you didn't know, there is a much darker, more aggressive second half to the black or white music video called "panther dance" - highly recommend watching that and then checking out this analysis video that explains the various symbolisms. (im not able to post the link to the video here so just search "panther dance symbolism" and click the first result - you wont regret it!) it's truly mind-blowing and you'll realise just how much depth there was to Michael jackson and he wasn't just a hit-making pop star.
That video was a huge deal at that time, everybody was fascinated with the effects and this song was everywhere for months, ah I forgot that young Tyra Banks was on that video :) originally that was more in the end, it show Michael Jackson dancing on an empty street ( no music ) and he start to scream and with a baseball bat he started to break cars and windows until the end he turned into a black panther and it ends with a white and black baby hold a snow globe of Earth ( was very polemic at that time, some places refused to show that bit of the clip )
🤘🔥🤘 Loved your reaction. Even though I was a Metalhead throughout the '80s and early '90s, I loved Michael Jackson. Still do. If I remember correctly, Slash of Guns n Roses, played guitar on this song. The video premiered in November of 1991 on BET, Fox, MTV and VH1 in 28 countries to half a billion people. It was definitely the talk of the town during the holidays.
I love this song so much. One of my favorite songs from my number one favorite album of his. (1991's Dangerous) I actually have sung this song multiple times and can perform the rap section and go into the remainder of the singing portion seamlessly.
you got it, the difference with Michael and other amazing artists is that he basically didn't force music. it came from inside of him, or as he liked to say it came from a higher place like he was the messenger of the music. he put all the beats on tape by beatboxing and he sung the melodies before recording. he only added lyrics after the music was written. and dancing was obviously in his dna so of course his beats always make you wanna get up and move😄
Wow.. I think this was the first music video i've ever watched as a kid in 1991. I remember feeling it was unique. Honestly, every one of his songs are gems. I recommend - Heal the world, The earth song, Man in the mirror, Stranger in Moscow, In the closet... and the list can go on forever❤🔥 Great reaction as always💜
The morphology he used at the end of make to female black to white was the first time that technology was ever used. Michael was ahead of everyone regarding using new technology before anyone else in the world.
Uhhhh,MJ....the best of all time, what more can we say? You should check out You are not Alone by MJ,if you haven't reacted to it yet,it is his most emotional song! Also,a suggestion! I don't know if you have reacted to them in the past, but you should react to Coldplay!! They are the best band of all time! If you want, you should start with Viva la Vida, and A Sky Full of Stars!
I love all of the dance styles highlighted in this video. As I recall, at this time in music videos you may have seen street dance, popping, jazz and modern but few artists highlighted dance or art from other parts of the world. I like that it opened the door for artists to explore other dance styles in their work without appropriating. MJ set the standard in videos and I think the incorporation of world dance was another standard set. MJ did face racism growing up. He faced police harassment as a youth and I think he and his brothers had a bomb scare at a few of their concerts. They seemed to focus a lot on bringing people together and ending racism and things that kept people apart
Because MJ was a natural dancer, the body percussion that he did was often very danceable. A lot of music education requires musicians to take dance classes as part of the instruction to help musicians understand rhythm, timing etc
Have you ever done Stranger in Moscow or Earth Song? Those will make you cry. Sooo good. Also they don't care about us. I recommend all three if you haven't.
I think Michael saying with all the biases, misunderstandings, war in this world. People need to learn to let go. We live in one world and it doesn’t matter if your black or white. Work to be whole.

The other really good videos are Thriller and Billie Jean (that song was so popular, and one of my top if not top of his, very catchy). The video was shortened here by several minutes of MJ dancing and jumping on a car and breaking the windshield and such. Too bad this one cut it off.

Michael did not do Ebony and Ivory that was Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder but it is still a great song there are 3 songs MJ dueted with Paul Say Say Say, The Girl Is Mine, and my personal favorite of the 3 The Man but Paul did write a song for Michael's Off The Wall album called Girlfriend but Ebony and Ivoty as much as I do love that song MJ had little if anything to do with it as I said before.

Any single from the bad album is a good choice, except smooth criminal because you’ve done that one) The bad album is kinda slept on really “Earth song” and “Childhood” important songs in his catalog as well

As always great insight and views regarding the song/video which constantly is a delight to watch your initial reaction.. although I mostly enjoy your videos when you feature the great British invasion back then in the 80's and early 90's... artists and groups that u haven't reacted on like Style Council, Go West, Simply Red, Blow Monkeys, ABC, Tears for Fears, Lisa Stanfield, Everything but the Girl, Swing out Sister, Prefab Sprout, Workshy, Julia Fordham, Bananarama, Sade, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, Human League and so many others...I particularly wish that one day you will be able to feature Style Council's hit song "shout to the top" which is another one of my all time favorite songs and I promise you that it's an amazing treat for u to hear and react on it as well.. anyway keep up the good work and peace out.

MJ what can be said that hasn't already been said but uou want suggestions to listen to him I will give you a list of 5 or so songs yo check out if you haven't yet... They Don't Care About Us Keep The Faith On The Line Streetwalker Morphine And lastly try I Can't Help It or (I Can't Take It)Another Day Now most of these songs there us no music video for but they are fantastic songs in any case.

I think that ELVIS PRESLEY IS THE BEST SINGER OF ALL TIMES not Michael Jackson ELVIS is the only person that had so many songs on Country ,R&B,SOUL,ROCK & ROLL
You really should take a look at some videos by a guy called Ray Hamilton. Elvis took his style of singing and if you listen without knowing who he is, you’d swear it was Elvis.
