I am an auto mechanic I have to fill out forms and do a lot of quick writing. Lots of numbers. My environment is VERY rough. Super abrasive and no place for an expensive pen. My beloved pilot metropolitan has stood the test. It handles dropping and dirty hands. It has shown itself to be a real workhorse. At 20 bucks I don’t have to sweat it. Regarding your last sentence... Yeah... I heard that 32mm open-end wrenches (32er Maul as Germans would say it) fly pretty well and balanced :) Damn... open-end wrench is a long term! By the time you said it you don’t need one anymore.
@@shaunpearson7905 And in response to what you actually said, you're calling Einstein, General MacArthur, and Eisenhower "fruity". Those men have done more than you have, or will.
@@shaunpearson7905 Yes I do. You will not win a World War or discover the theory of relativity. In fairness most people on Earth wouldn't accomplish things of that magnitude, including me. But because of that simple mathematical fact, I do have a strong backing for the statement that you will not amount to the greatness of any of those men. I reacted harshly, for that I do apologize, but the only thing I will say in my defense was that I didn't find it funny. I'm fine with those types of jokes, but I didn't realize it was a joke, so I thought you were making a sincere statement.
I've never tried to deny affiliation with Noodler's, I'm a retailer who sells their ink, and Liberty's Elysium is an ink I co-designed with Nathan Tardif (Noodler's Creator). The ink is themed around Patrick Henry, and Scotchtown is right up the road from me (I even went to Patrick Henry High School!). Since I am a retailer, there really isn't a way for me to be completely unbaised, and in fact, there isn't a way to remove bias for anyone who reviews products of their own free will...
I am not only addicted to pens, but I am truly addicted to your UA-cam videos. They take up hours of the day. Arph! Thank you for such informative videos, Brian!
A pen that I'm still amazed at in terms of bang for my buck is my Platinum Preppy. It came free with a 4.5 oz bottle of Noodler's Heart of Darkness ink. It has the 03 nib which is amazingly smooth for such an inexpensive pen. I use it as an eyedropper pen so it holds a lot of ink. It's always on my desk for when I want to use black ink. For a few dollars, I bought another one that's always in my satchel. Also in my satchel is my Nemosine Singularity Demonstrator with a 0.8 mm nib. It's another inexpensive pen that punches above it's weight class. It's inked with Waterman's Serenity Blue for any writing or signatures that need to look 'official'. (When the original cartridge was done, I refilled it with a syringe and a blunt needle.) My only 'higher quality' everyday pen is my Sailor 1911S. It has a fine nib (perhaps extra-fine by European standards) but is still as smooth a writer as one could wish for. The Sailor converter doesn't hold a lot of ink so I refill it often with whatever ink suits my fancy at the time. Right now, that's Pilot iroshizuku shin-ryoku.
Oh yeah, a bunch of us here use EF nibs, even me when the situation is right. Keep in mind though, we basically only use awesome paper here, so we can dump as much ink on the page as we want ;) I definitely plan to have some other folks on the Goulet team do some 'top 3' videos.
The way you talk about the pens make them sound like wands the way J.K. Rowling describes them in her Harry Potter series. They pretty much are magical. Been looking around for fountain pens and have no idea on what's good for a beginner that would give me a decent idea of what all this is about and gives a fair chance of me liking it without breaking the bank. Haha! It feels really intimidating to get into all this with all the options and inks, etc.
Pilot metropolitan it is $15 or $20.50 with a converter. It is a cheap but well made fountain pen that is great for beginners, my ink of choice is noodler's black.
I know this is REALLY late, and I hope that you've already got one, but the pilot metropolitan is a cheap entry-level pen that is actually going to write well and not be a complete p.o.s. Hope this (albeit late) reply helps!
This is probably way too late to help the original commentator, but in case anyone else could need a bit of help: The Lamy AL-Star is very well made and (I got it off Amazon for 20€) a rather cheap choice as well. In my opinion, the Safari has a more cheap kind of feel to it than the AL Stat's Metal body.
For those of us with far smaller hands, I recommend: 1. The Kaweco Sport 2. Parker 51 in the demi size (some people would probably flinch at the very idea of carrying their vintage 51 out of the house, let alone stuffing it in a bag or clipping it to a jeans pocket, but when you're lucky enough to have a masterpiece of Golden Age American ingenuity like the P51, it seems to me like the real sin would be in NOT using it anywhere and everywhere! ;) 3. Pilot Petit 4. Pelikan Pelikano 5. Lamy Safari/Al-Star/Vista (looks big, but the balance and ergonomic grip make it a breeze to write with, especially unposted)
I have to agree with the Parker 51. As a very young kid, I used to snatch it out of my father and carry it to school. My first love of a pen, and one I still have, even though my father passed away. All the maintenance it ever got was the sac replaced (bought in 1957, I replaced it in 2004), and it still works. Hard to understand an 8 year old in love with a pen!
I have a Lamy Safari and a Pilot Metropolitan which I take to work. At home I have another Safari and another two Metropolitans. I just love how they write - and they're really good for my handwriting too
I buy (have bought) a fair number of Metroploitan and Cocoons because I've had enough of losing Watermans :-) One thing I don't like to necessarily do is fill the pen with the "appropriate" or matching ink color. I usually like to contrast the ink from the color of the pen but other times it's just based on whimsy.
+2tinytreasures My most recent 'legit' excuse for purchasing a new pen was my birthday. It was excuse to purchase not only a new pen, but some Iroshizuku ink and a Rhodia Dotpad. Now that they have arrived, I'm sitting here searching for another 'legit reason'! Got a beautiful green swirl Bexley BX802 in view. (LOL)
I slimmed down my pen collection from over 100 to just 8, 3 of which are rollerballs. My all around fav is a Pilot Vanishing point that gets rotated with my much beloved Parker 75 (that I've had for 30 years!), a Cross Gardenia roller and a Monteverde Touch Engage. They don't go out all at once, only 2 at a time, one in my Midori and the other as a backup option. But they rotate often!
I live in Argentina where inks are an extreme luxury and rarely can be imported. But I did get my hands on a small bottle of Diamine Dark Chocolate. The rest of the time I use Lamy ink (sigh) widely available, but very few colors.
I'm in college right now and I like to keep a fine nib Metropolitan filled with X-Feather. I also like to carry around a tiny 1 ounce plastic bottle with X-Feather just in case I need to refill at school. Sometimes people like to ask about whatever FP I'm using and want to try it out for themselves, in which case I pull out a Preppy for them to try. In addition, I like to have my Noodler's Ahab filled with Platinum Carbon Black for sketching and watercolor washes as well as my Lamy 2000 with Elysium Blue.
Alright that's it I am going to buy a Lamy 2000 this weekend, I wasn't sure to buy either the 2000 or the vanishing point, but I really like the Lamy's design and i hate the gloss on the vanishing point. It's funny, I'm buying all this stuff and I haven't even finished high school yet... I think I might get the fine or the extra fine, not really sure yet.
You won't regret it! Just got a LAMY 2000 last month and it's by far my favorite pen now. If you're planning on using it at school, EF would be the way to go. - Colin
Based on this video and the Pilot Con-70 video, I bought a Pilot Custom 74 pen. As someone who has used fountain pens for about 35 years, how have I lived without this pen? Absolutely amazing!
At work I carry two Lamy Safaris, to Pilot Metropolitans, and a Noodler’s (I’ve got four so whichever I feel like that day). I find having five colours to make notes in makes it easier for me to read
love my Lamy 2000 -- hands down the best one (i've owned & used +50 fountain pens) : weight balance, writing feel, ink capacity, practicality, design... It really does have everything!
I always carry my pilot 823 in my lunch bag when I go to work. I like to spend 20min of my time writing notes to myself and reviewing them as progressions. It’s my favorite pen. My pilot 92 is my office pen that’s always on standby in front of my monitor. My beloved Mont Blanc meisterstick platinum (not a fountain pen) is always on my bedside when I need to jot down what I dreamt about.
Thanks for the informative video. I was recently gifted with a mid-50's Schaeffer fountain pen, bought ink for it and after writing with it I am now I'm hooked. I will be buying more fountain pens.
Hey Brian! Received my shipment of *takes deep breath in* a TWSBI Vac-700, a cleaning set, a tuning set, some O-rings, a Medium Preppy, a 4.5 Oz (if I can recall correctly) bottle of X-Feather and some silicon grease today! Super happy and satisfied with everything. Loved how well everything was packed and how you guys write little note for extra personal touch. Will definitely buy from you guys again! Cheers from Perth, Australia! Eddy
Here are my 3 EDC pens; Kaweco Sport, in Orange - A Lamy whose model I don’t recal, but you push one end in, and the pen becomes longer. It’s about 3” long with the Nib not showing! Lastly, I carry a custom made, out of Canada, Woodgrain Nox, that is so beautiful it’s crazy!
My two daily pens are a Waterman Hemisphere (matte black with gold trim), wich i use for rapid notes or when i want to sign something important (it's quite elegant). The other one is a not flashy, almost unknown brand (Montex) pen, all metal, very fine nib. The gold trim on it wen by the first month. It's ugly, one trim ring fell off and now the cap is not aligned with the body... but it's always spot-on. It's smooth, not too dry nor too wet, holds quite a lot of ink, and NEVER fails me. I've done most of my exams in the past year with it. A pen doesnt have to be expensive to make you love him! hehe.
nice! I have several LE Lamy pens as well, like the coffee al-star and ruby red al-star. I used to use them all the time, but I'm much more selective about when I do because they are no longer available. I use my Ocean Blue Al-star though, I love that blue! I'm glad you're enjoying Liberty's Elysium so much, that is quite obviously a mainstay in my pens ;)
I used to use my Pilot Custom 74 as my EDC but less so now. I prefer the TWSBI Vac 700 these days. It writes pretty smooth without issue for me and the ink reservoir size is insane. I can take pages of notes a day so it's nice not having to refill it for a week. The other pen I've been using a lot lately is a Pilot Vanishing Point. It's great for taking notes without worry about the nib drying out.
I'm late to the party, but I always carry a pilot varsity. It's cheap, reliable, and disposable. It writes every time and has not leaked, so it's better than any ballpoint I have used. Also, its my first fountain pen, so even tho its the cheapest of the cheap, it holds a special place in my heart.
Even though I love so many pens now, my favorite will always be the Parker Vector- fine point. Nothing special, I know but I fell in love with the way this nib writes and the way the pen feels in my hand (I have small hands). After 10 years, the nib was destroyed and so was I because I thought they were no longer being made. Just recently, I found out that they are still being made, and I recently had a beautiful new gold Vector delivered to my waiting hands...I guess it's the artist in me!! So beautiful!
My EDC pen is the pen that got me into fountain pens. The Kaweco Lilliput EF in Copper. I carry it in the pen loop on my leather Hitch and Timber pocket organizer. I also always have a Moleskin XS Vallant in my pocket as well.
My EDC pens are the Lamy Vista and the TWSBI mini (demonstrator). I prefer the demonstrators because I use the ink window to can tell if the ink that I'm cleaning out is thinning out. I only have 4 fountain pens, one of which was my first, and I don't carry it everyday. The another oneis the Charcoal Safari, but I need to retrieve it from a friends house and probably need to soak it and get rid of the ink in it. I absolutely love Noodler's X-Feather. I like black inks as dark as they can get.
My Three: 1. Pelikan M600 Blue Stripe with a Fine nib 2. Omas Milord in the standard Black finish with a F nib 3. Pilot Custom 74 in the Blue Demonstrator, took your recommendation and I love it! Love your videos, keep it up and happy holidays!
My introduction to fountain pens was a Hongidan Black Forest off Amazon for like $15. A metal cartridge/converter with snap cap. VERY fine EF nib. Looks great. However after two years of EDC and frequent capping/uncapping, the cap no longer snaps securely, and it comes off in my pocket. Sad. I upgraded it formally with a TWSBI Eco EF in translucent blue. It's a delight to write with and a delight to live with, looks surprisingly good, and I definitely appreciate the maintainability, even if it's not AS maintainable as a Diamond 580. Definitely a big fan of the twist cap that solves all the problems of the Hongdian's snap cap. Then I impulse bought a TON of ultra cheap Chinese pens. A box of four TWSBI-knockoff piston fillers with distressingly cheap and rattly construction, although at least they write decently, and a case of 16 full clear cartridge/converters with snap caps. Some of these run a little scratchy. They are proper "knock-around" pens, as they are just so insanely cheap that I won't miss them if they grow legs, get dropped, or otherwise ruined. The snap-cap ones quickly got loaded up with all the different kinds of ink I have, although with a variety box of piston fillers I can ink them up with different kinds too. But since the cap doesn't seal as well as the TWSBI does, I should probably avoid inking up too many pens that I then can't use them all.
My current EDC is a Pelikan M600 (EF), Montblanc Meisterstück 146 (EF) and a Pelikan M200 (F). I use Montblanc Toffee Brown and Pelikan Brilliant Black. I also carry a pouch with 2 Kaweco Sport, one in F, one in M which i converted into eyedroppers. They serve for colouring. One with red, one with green ink.
I keep trying to build a pen collection but I'm also in the habit of giving pens away as gifts rather than buying a new one to give as a gift so that's kept the collection down. My everyday pen is a LAMY Safari with an EF nib and I love it! But I just got a LAMY CP1 that I'm very excited to try. I also have a Sheaffer Snorkel pen that I found at an antique store for only five dollars, but it has a broad nib which I'm not used to (I generally write very small). I like to use the Sheaffer for writing letters, though, since the recipients frequently complained about the smaller size when I write with my Safari :)
The Metropolitan tends to grow on you, despite the "medium" nib on mine really being a fine. For a true medium and inexpensive, get the Diplomat Magnum which is German.
In my opinion, I have to vote for the Conklin Duragraph Fountain Pen. This is my daily use pen. It can take a beating like no other. The screw cap and smooth flowing nib makes this a fantastic every day pen. I use Heart of Darkness black from Noodlers Ink in this pen. As a teacher, I use red ink to grade papers. For this I use a Lamy Safari with Noodlers Empire Red ink. My students like the ink after I tell them that it glows under a black light. Baystate Blue is the only blue ink I consider as blue in color. This ink is fantastic. It is smooth as silk and bullet proof. I use this in a Lamy Safari as well. I have yet to find an ink as easy to use, as durable, and as smooth as Noodlers. The ink cannot be beat.
I bring 3 pens to class every day: A black Safari with 1.1 mm italic nib filled with Noodler's Black, my aquamarine Safari with 1.1 mm italic filled with Noodler's Liberty's Elysium (awesome ink, my favorite!), and my Lamy Nexx with a F nib filled with Noodler's Black. I do worry about something happening to my aquamarine Safari, though, since it was LE, so I'll probably be getting another inexpensive durable pen to take its place.
Pilot VP and a Waterman Carene for me. Plus a Century Classic and Waterman hemisphere for those instances where I need a ball point. If I'm traveling without my laptop bag, then a Kaweco Sport and Fisher Bullet fit in my pocket.
Once a week, bravo! You're more diligent than me ;) I'd recommend LE over BSB in your Creaper, BSB tends to feather like crazy in a flex pen on the wrong paper.
I was very underwhelmed by the pilot metropolitan. I found it very difficult to write with, and have since bought the twsbi 580 and adore it. It goes with me everywhere.
My pens don't leave the drawing room. But I still have 3 favorites, currently: Lamy CP1 (B), Faber-Castell Neo Slim (M), and TiLiner Aluminum (Kaweco BB). Yes, I'm on Team Slender Cylindrical Metal Pens.
Hi Brian, I've been writing with fountain pens for years. I've been spoiled by being able to try and test pens in shi-shi pen stores. Well those days are gone. SO, here you are always mentioning your big hands...Do you have a video or could you do one or could Rachel do one with HER favorite pens for smaller hands? I find many pens too heavy for my hands especially if I were to cap the end. Favorite pen is my first one still, A Lamy Linea Pin stripe I got in Glasgow Scotland in early 2000. Feels great, not too heavy. Great size, nothing painful that juts out from grip end to make for writers cramp.
I know...hey, I have nothing but love for the VP, honestly! It's a pen I end up using around my desk more than in my bag, so it's not really my 'carry' pen, even though it totally would be great for that. I don't know, it just hasn't been one I've grabbed for first, for no real reason. I have several of them (and a Fermo, too).
Hi Brian, I always have my 3 pen case with me as all times. In it I usually carry my Monteverde Invincia medium nib, my Twsbi Vac 700 1.1mm stub, a Cross ballpoint (just in case) and a mechanical pencil. I usually add in my Lamy 2000 or my Ahab flex. Always have one pen filled with Diamond Ancient Copper, too.
Ah, yes, I'm a fan of the 823 as well. I have one and do enjoy it very much, but the 74 is just like my sidekick now, I'd probably use the 823 more if I didn't already have the 74 broken in so nicely!
I'm always pocket carrying a TWSBI 540 with my fabulous mix of 50/50 Sailor Epinard and Pelikan Violet (Dries dark green, but turns deep maroon on bleached paper.
I have a Pelikan M200 Demonstrator with the gold plated medium steel nib. I absolutely love the pen. It's my daily writer, a real work horse of a pen. I use Waterman's Brown ink in the pen and it writes wonderfully. Great pen.
My daily carries are a 1)Edison Nouveau Premiere LE with a med steel nib converted into an eye-dropper filler, usually filled with Sailor Jentile Sky High or Noodler's Liberty's Elysium. Next, 2) is a Platinum 3776 Century "Chartres Blue" with a broad nib filled with Diamine Majestic Blue (one of my all time favorite inks). This is a fantistic pen/ink pairing! Last, 3) is my Pilot Metropolitan inked with Noodler's 54th Massachusetts. Like you, this is my knock about pen. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for this video! I’m new to the fountain pen scene - but quickly becoming obsessed! I was so happy when you said Pilot Metropolitan!!!! That was my first fountain pen - and I’m just so sentimental about it!!!! I have graduated to Lamy Al-stars as well, but I just love my Houndstooth Metropolitan! I am still new so I’m having way too much fun experiencing with different colors! The usual 4 just seem way too boring! Why have red when you can have Diamine Oxblood, or green when you can have Monteverde Olivine, or De Atramentis Jane Austen??? I love the easy converter but am confident I will become a pro at refilling cartridges with these fine inks. I know if anything happened to my PM, I would cry!!!! I’m happy to hear its one you carry on a regular basis! Thank you so much! God bless you!
I'm a sailor, I carry sailor. Easy to replace price range, though it's kind of hard to find. I'm thinking of getting the TWSBI pens and ink, lower risk of spilling ink all over the deck when refilling.
Sailor has quite a vast range of pen prices, so it all depends which pens you're talking about! TWSBI's are good, and using it with the TWSBI inkwell would definitely lower the risk of spillage. -Brian Goulet
I am new, well fairly, at pens and try to swing my business your way, little as it is. I was brought up in a family owned business and as I know the covid 19 virus is throwing a wrench into things. I feel you should get the business. I have purchased 6 Metropolitan and a couple of Plumix with more in this order and ink. Oh how I love all those ink colors. What converters do you use in your Metropolitan Pens? I enjoy doing business with you, thank you for your personal service and the speed your company provides.
That's so awesome Eddy! Glad you got everything okay, who knows what journey it all goes on from Virginia to Perth! That's why we pack the way we do, we want to make darn sure it makes it to you okay ;) Have fun playing with your vac!
i carry around 4 pens. a Standard roller ball from zebra for work, I also carry a Pilot Metro and Noodler's Ahabs. One Ahab has the noodlers nib, while the other has a Goulet 2 tone medium nib. i switch between Waterman Serenity AKA Florida Blue and BSB and keep one of my Ahabs filled with Black Swan in English Roses pretty much at all times.
My edc pens are usually ballpoints ... pilot custom Le with a blue and green marble pattern, my beater pen is any Parker jotter, and now I’m considering getting a kaweco sport for a edc pocket fountain pen
I generally carry 8 or 10, but I always have; 1- my black Ahab with a Goulet medium nib, ( a Goul-Ahab?) The only pen that I ALWAYS have inked up. It"s boardroom appropriate, it's comfortable to write with, and it always writes. 2- one for filling out forms on cheap copy paper; any medium nibbed Pilot, a Parker 45 fine, etc. 3. one for my shirt pocket; a TWSBI Mini, a Kaweco Sport, a Prera, etc The rest are usually broader nibs, more "flashy", and loaded with inks that are more fun/less professional.
NICE! You have excellent taste ;) Which LE are you rocking, the blue/black or Cherry Cordial? I love the Chartres Blue color, and I find that Majestic Blue works really well in the Platinum pens (what a sexy ink). You and I have very similar tastes (blue, basically, haha!).
How do you think a TWSBI 580 and a Lamy Safari would do as everyday pens? Currently the only respectable fountain pen I own is a Sheaffer Prelude, but I'm not comfortable taking that outside the house since it's monogrammed and one of the more expensive finishes.
My Pilot 74 used to be an EDC but then I bought an 823 and now it doesn't get much of a look in. I find the 823 is just more suited for my hand being a larger size. My other is a Pelikan 640 Northern Lights which is lovely to look at but even better to write with.
Once I got my four or five Pilot retractable...that was it for me! Why fiddle with caps etc when the Pilot retractable has everything!!! I have no clue what I’m going to do with the Parkers and Wayermans etc!!!
I would rather spend $3 for a Sheaffer School pen that $10 for some new pen. It's one of my go-to pens. They were the first ones I bought, and I bought six plus 3 calligraphy pens with 3 nibs each. It takes a universal cartridge. It's easy to clean. The nib pops out and the entire ink channel comes out, and disassembles very easily. It works first time, every time. It takes a beating like a Timex. It doesn't dry out, and even if I leave it for an extended time, weeks, I'll pick it up and it will write. I have one of those that I just recently cleaned for the first time after at least 3 years. It came apart, and all I needed was a paper towel and a toothbrush. I don't know why they quit making it, but it is so easy to use, it's just made for the new user.
They would do great, I carry each from time to time. The Safari in particular would be a great knockabout pen, then you could leave the Prelude in the safety of your home.
My three 1. Platinum 3776 with a Music nib, for signing papers 2. Platinum 3776 with a steel M nib, for everyday writing 3. Pilot VP, with a F nib, for writing small notes
Been watching all your videos. They have been great. Although I don't think I'd ever buy anything higher than a pilot metropolitan EVER, I've been really enjoying all your videos. You also seem like a really nice and humble person, which makes it much easier for me to continue watching the videos. :) I'd probably never get to buy anything from your store. But then, Love from India. ! :)
Wow. I got a reply. Did not expect that. :) Welcome. And... I had a doubt for a long time. But when I saw the book by John Maxwell in this video, I understood that my guesses were true. :D . Brian reminds me so much of Graham Cochrane from Recording Revolution whom I happen to admire as well. :) Anyways. All the best. :) Followed Brian on Twitter! :)
Bother to make 2021 edition of 3 every day pens🙏🏻
Hell yeah its been 7 years there have been loads of new releases
Yes please!!! I'd click that with zero hesitation. (:
The Lamy 2000 would still be on the list
WE NEED THIS.
Yes I agree we need this! Maybe a good one for 2022!

Pilot Metropolitan 5:02
thanks soo much
Thanks. That's all I wanted to know and to not have to slog through over 7 min. Much appreciated.
Thanks for that. I was hoping somebody would post it.
Glad to hear that, your Knock around Pens included the Pilot Metropolitan, I thought it to, was an excellent choice for the price.....
Thank you

Lamy 2000 is my absolute favourite.

Any Faber-Castell
For those of us with far smaller hands, I recommend:
1. The Kaweco Sport
2. Parker 51 in the demi size (some people would probably flinch at the very idea of carrying their vintage 51 out of the house, let alone stuffing it in a bag or clipping it to a jeans pocket, but when you're lucky enough to have a masterpiece of Golden Age American ingenuity like the P51, it seems to me like the real sin would be in NOT using it anywhere and everywhere! ;)
3. Pilot Petit
4. Pelikan Pelikano
5. Lamy Safari/Al-Star/Vista
(looks big, but the balance and ergonomic grip make it a breeze to write with, especially unposted)
RationalDischarge Thanks so much for sharing! -Brian Goulet
i am really fussy about my dailys but always have my lamy vista as my knock around just for the balance. Good list
Hey, why do you think they don’t make Parker 51 anymore? Wouldn’t it be a hit, at least for a year, if they relaunched it?
Th3L0st0ne If the price is good, I buy one.
I have a Lamy Safari and a Pilot Metropolitan which I take to work. At home I have another Safari and another two Metropolitans. I just love how they write - and they're really good for my handwriting too
I buy (have bought) a fair number of Metroploitan and Cocoons because I've had enough of losing Watermans :-)
One thing I don't like to necessarily do is fill the pen with the "appropriate" or matching ink color. I usually like to contrast the ink from the color of the pen but other times it's just based on whimsy.
If it doesn't match EXACTLY, then it clashes, to my eye. Much easier to contrast.
I just found out my excuse to buy a fountain pen and legit business expense! I'm a Realtor and closing docs require blue ink! score! thanks for tips.
(LOL)
I always wondered if there were a profession that requires blue ink. Lol
@@matchstyx3460 I was required to sign all exam papers with a permanent, blue ink as a middle school student.
That sounds like a pretty good system! Do you have any favorite inks to pair them with? - Colin
+nomebear Nice! Let us know if we can help at all :) -Margaret
I use an Lamy Safari (matte black) and an Cross Calais (matte black w/ silver looking trim)
A pen doesnt have to be expensive to make you love him! hehe.
I have an “F” metropolitan and I LOVE it, perfect ink flow and size even for super cheap paper, planning on getting about 3 more in several sizes lol.
As of today i own
Lamy 2000
Pilot Custom 74
Pilot Metropolitan
I also have Safari, Twsbi GO and 580 etc. but i agree that those 3are really best
Thanks! Yeah, that thing is fun :) Our photographer (Tyler) has been having a blast the last week or so!
I love that pen it was my first when I was 11 but I broke in a stressful test RIP
My EDC pen is the pen that got me into fountain pens. The Kaweco Lilliput EF in Copper. I carry it in the pen loop on my leather Hitch and Timber pocket organizer. I also always have a Moleskin XS Vallant in my pocket as well.
Really nice filming, I really like the new rotator table thing you got.
Thanks for the video! I carry the pilot metropolitan everywhere :)
Thank you for sharing all your useful videos. I'm so glad to hear that there are other people out there that carry more than one pen with them.
You'd make life difficult for a lot of people if you limited them to carrying only one pen, myself included! :) - Colin
My Three:
1. Pelikan M600 Blue Stripe with a Fine nib
2. Omas Milord in the standard Black finish with a F nib
3. Pilot Custom 74 in the Blue Demonstrator, took your recommendation and I love it!
Love your videos, keep it up and happy holidays!
LegendaryPoro Nice! All stellar pens, and I'm thrilled you appreciated my recommendation ;) -Brian Goulet
Very cool, gotta love them lamy's
I also love the Bay State inks but must warn you that my tests show that they fade pretty rapidly when exposed to sunlight.
Haha I’m the opposite. I adore my metropolitan and am underwhelmed with my TWSBI, almost irritated by it
@@stadart949 Yes I feel the same. Love my pilot Metropolitan, but was disappointed in my TWISBY swipe, I find it to big and uncomfortable in my hand.
Funny thing today, I had my metropolitan with me and my student had the same but in another color. Love that plan, cheap, durable and smooth.
Have all three ... love all three!
Brian should shoot an updated version of this :)
It really hasn't changed too drastically I don't think. Maybe swap in the Homo Sapiens instead of the Metropolitan! - Colin
I love the Custom 74...
Ah, yes, I'm a fan of the 823 as well. I have one and do enjoy it very much, but the 74 is just like my sidekick now, I'd probably use the 823 more if I didn't already have the 74 broken in so nicely!
I'm always pocket carrying a TWSBI 540 with my fabulous mix of 50/50 Sailor Epinard and Pelikan Violet (Dries dark green, but turns deep maroon on bleached paper.
loving my Lamy 2000. It's my new every day carry.
I have a Pelikan M200 Demonstrator with the gold plated medium steel nib. I absolutely love the pen. It's my daily writer, a real work horse of a pen. I use Waterman's Brown ink in the pen and it writes wonderfully. Great pen.
Good stuff! I have an m200 with the italic nib, it's great. A bit small for me though, but I have monster hands... -Brian Goulet
Thanks for sharing love to hear you opinions and thanks for being positive and up beat✨💫❣🌹
Pilot Metropolitan is my every day carry. Smooooth nib. Great value. Always reliable.
Andrew Tan awesome, I keep at least one on me where I go, too. -Brian Goulet
Oh yes, I love blue! My Edison Nouveau Premiere LE is in Cherry Cordial and I just love it!
Whoa, never really thought about the super high end stuff they do with exotic metals.
Can you guys deliver to FPO addresses?
I really enjoy your vids. I also like to match my ink color to my pen. :)
I like demos too, or at least pens with ink windows! Sounds like you have a pretty good set there already.
I know! I bought a couple of shirts recently with collars :)
Nice set!
My edc pens are usually ballpoints ... pilot custom Le with a blue and green marble pattern, my beater pen is any Parker jotter, and now I’m considering getting a kaweco sport for a edc pocket fountain pen
I generally carry 8 or 10, but I always have;
1- my black Ahab with a Goulet medium nib, ( a Goul-Ahab?) The only pen that I ALWAYS have inked up. It"s boardroom appropriate, it's comfortable to write with, and it always writes.
2- one for filling out forms on cheap copy paper; any medium nibbed Pilot, a Parker 45 fine, etc.
3. one for my shirt pocket; a TWSBI Mini, a Kaweco Sport, a Prera, etc
The rest are usually broader nibs, more "flashy", and loaded with inks that are more fun/less professional.
Definitely seems like a good selection there. A pen for any occasion! - Colin
Ghoulab?
I'm lusting after the Lamy 2000 right now.
Omg you were a baby back then lol love the videos ! Keep it up.
I like carrying around pilot capless fountain pens
My Pilot 74 used to be an EDC but then I bought an 823 and now it doesn't get much of a look in. I find the 823 is just more suited for my hand being a larger size. My other is a Pelikan 640 Northern Lights which is lovely to look at but even better to write with.
Thanks. You've helped me plan my next purchase (Pilot Metropolitan) of a fountain pen. Vik Five
Nice, that's a good lineup you have there. Isn't Ancient Copper cool?
Really like Pilot Custom 74 both ‘F’ and ‘XF’; also, love Platinum ‘XF’; just bought Sailor’F’;also love my Pilot Custom 823 ‘F’
Me: ok, one more video
Also me: oooo a custom 74 I am going to have to add that to my Goulet Pen cart!
They would do great, I carry each from time to time. The Safari in particular would be a great knockabout pen, then you could leave the Prelude in the safety of your home.
My EDC is my Violet Lamy Safari with Pelikan 3001 Violet in it. And sometimes a fine nib Metro with Diamine Grey
Favorite pens: Lamy 2000, Montblanc Meisterstuck Classique and ST DUPONT WINDSOR OR ATELIER
My three
1. Platinum 3776 with a Music nib, for signing papers
2. Platinum 3776 with a steel M nib, for everyday writing
3. Pilot VP, with a F nib, for writing small notes
sjchun79 Nice, all super-respectable pens! -Brian Goulet
The Goulet Pen Company The VP is from Goulet pens. Thanks for a great pen!
Haha, wow! You must get some looks when you whip all those out ;)
I have 8 pens with me! I need to cut back because I'd be devastated if I lost my "edc" pouch.
When your knock around pen is my most expensive and prized pen!
haha, yeah I actually went out and bought a couple of collared shirts a couple of weekends ago. They're not so bad ;)
Been watching all your videos. They have been great.
Although I don't think I'd ever buy anything higher than a pilot metropolitan EVER, I've been really enjoying all your videos.
You also seem like a really nice and humble person, which makes it much easier for me to continue watching the videos. :)
I'd probably never get to buy anything from your store. But then, Love from India. ! :)
Thanks for your support through watching our videos :) -Margaret
Anyways. All the best. :) Followed Brian on Twitter! :)
Nice review. I usually carry a Parker Sonnet with me, a black medium BIC ball point pen and a pencil paper HB.
I got my pilot metropolitan actually in Japan
1:57 to skip to the pens! Although his intro was pretty cool.
Thanks :) -Brian Goulet
You're certainly welcome! I just love you guys so much :)
Damn Brian dat weight loss
