The 7 minute 15 second music video ''The Divine Comedy - Infernal Machines / You'll Never Work in This Town Again.'' [ by The Divine Comedy - Official ]
I love that the protagonist isn't the main character, he's just a side character that the story follows. He's not the chosen one, he's the unsung hero. Nobody will really remember him, but none of it would have been possible without him.
His entire arc is learning to construct his own meaning and by saving Deckard and reuniting him with his daughter, Joe makes himself apart of the miracle. Roy Batty dies a meaningless life in the dark rain looking at the ground, forgotten. Joe dies in the light looking up at the sky, a truly meaningful death, who’s purpose will always be remembered.
@@Jellybob69 I disagree with Roy having a meaningless life, his point in the end was to change Deckard’s perspective and showed him that replicants are just as “human” as humans. He knew that replicants should have rights from the start, that’s why he was rebelling. What’s different between him and K is that K didn’t realize his value as a sentient being at first, but grew to do so by realizing that what defines him is not what he is but what he does, so he decided to help Deckard in the end, making him as much “human” as humans.
It's almost too subtle, but it's an awesome reference. The wooden horse has a broken spot on the forehead where a horn used to be. It's not a horse, it's a unicorn.
Denis does however has the cinematographer from Rogue one. Which for me is the best looking Star Wars movie so he should be in great hand. But I do admit I would love to see what Villeneuve, Deakins and Zimmer would have done together in Dune
Greig Fraser did the cinematography for Dune. He was nominated for the Oscar in 2016 for doing the cinematography for Lion, and he may get nominated again, who knows?
Yeah, but these types of movies never sadly do well :( Besides Blade Runner wasn't a box office nor a critical hit at first either. It's a philosophical sci-fi movie and that's a hard sell for regular movie-goers.
In a way, I'm kinda glad the film didn't do well only because it would attract a large and vocal audience that can ruin your enjoyment of a film. Not that I care too much of what everyone else thinks, but I'm someone who likes 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' for example... so you can imagine the shitstorm I keep reminding myself of when I see that film. 'Blade Runner 2049' fortunately, is a movie I can enjoy in peace.

@@carlossaraiva8213 I'm on episode 3! It's nice to have a show that really gets into the uncomfortableness that determinism has on people's self conception

Referring to Joe's car: "It looks like it could be a Batmobile." Christopher Nolan used the original Blade Runner as inspiration for his approach to Batman, as it is an example of a rather unreal world given a very grounded sense of realism. Also, the futuristic animated series Batman Beyond also draws quite heavily from Blade Runner's aesthetics with its hover vehicles and monolithic buildings.
This is the movie that FINALLY got Roger Deakins the Oscar for Best Cinematography after almost 40 years of being long overdue. Before this movie he did The Shawshank Redemption, The Big Lebowski (as well as almost all of the other Cohen Bros movies), Skyfall, Sicario, and 1917. Also, this movie was directed by Denis Villeneuve, director of Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival, one of the best directors working today. He is also the one directing Dune.
One of the best things about the writing in this movie is how well it plays with the theme of ambiguity like in the first movie. For example, regardless of whether if Deckard is a human or a replicant, the implications of the fact that he had a child with Rachel is equally tremendous: If Deckard is a replicant, then replicants are sapient species. If Deckard is a human, then that implies that replicants would be subsumed under the human species. Both of these situations subvert the justification that people have in-universe have of treating replicants as merely biological machines. Another bit of ambiguity is with regard to Joi: Was she truly self-aware or were her actions only done in accordance with her programming to please her owner? In the scene with the billboard, is K/Joe thinking that his love for Joi was all a lie? Or did he conclude that it was real for him and that's all that matters?
Anyone who watched this movie without watching the original won't fully appreciate this masterpiece of a sequel. The visuals of this movie are forever ingrained in my mind.

It was once considered an impossible task to even imagine an okay sequel to the original Bladerunner. 2049 went above and beyond the impossible. It matches the original and in some ways exceeds it. Denis Vileneuve is the greatest director of our time. Dune will show the world why. Speaking of Denis. His other films are all 10/10 aswell; Prisoners Enemy Sicario Arrival BR2049 What's amazing is that all of these films were released yearly. From 2013 with Prisoners to 2017 with BR2049. That alone is a herculean feat. The fact that Denis has spent the last 3 + years focusing on Dune alone makes me think its going to be an unmatched masterpiece. His magnum opus
I just wanna say, I think it’s great that - towards the end of the film - when K hands Deckard the wooden horse, to Deckard meeting his daughter, I love that none of these guys say a single thing. They just sit there in complete silence and watch the last few minutes. Those last few minutes of ‘Blade Runner 2049’ is just the masterpiece of cinema. Denis Villeneuve and his cinematographer Roger Deakins have crafted gold with this.
I think this scene is so subtle but its so meaninful. I think these short lines of deckard's dialog really completes his arc. He fully understands that even though K memories are implants he's feelings are very real. And then as K lays to die Deckards daughter says 'just a moment... beautiful isn't it?" and I think its a reference to the tears in rain monologue. His life/death is just a moment in time but is also beautiful. I think the snow is also a nice contrast to the rain in the OG movie, since snowflakes are unique in a way. God I love this movie.
I have to agree with Aaron here when it comes to Wallace. He was constantly comparing himself to god, and his speech to Decker sounded like he was insinuating that god had a plan for Decker, the same as Wallace had a plan for the replicants.
yes, Rick got the wrong meaning out of that moment, this movie pretty much definitively says that Deckard is not a replicant. Mainly because he survived that long, replicants in his time can only live a couple years
What made me think Deckard is not a replicant was also because of that reason, if Deckard was a replicant then he would have had to be made with the same Tyrell technology that Rachael had in order to conceive Ana. Part of the technology he is looking for is right in front of him, why would Wallace ignore that fact and just have him shipped offworld and tortured?
It's Denis Villeneuve. You guys just reacted to his DUNE trailer, lmao. And this movie is cinema. If Blade Runner was a flawed masterpieces, Blade Runner 2049 is a perfect sequel & a masterpiece. And this movie is a better movie than the first one. I'm surprised you saw the short stories of F&F, but You guys didn't watch the three prequel short stories for this movie inorder to connect some dots, like how the black out happened. Also, you guys need to watch Arival as well. Another Denis Villeneuve masterpiece.
I love this movie because it feels like it tries really hard to stay true to the original. It tries to keep the same gritty/dirty tone of the original, but soften it just a little bit. The cinematography of this game is absolutely gorgeous. The color scheme, the mood, the characters. I just love how this movie flows so well from the original. It's some terrific storytelling that really makes you feel as if you're clever early on only to have the rug pulled out from under you by the end. This movie is so damn good.
I went to the theater to watch this. Wanna know how many people were there to watch this movie? Less than 15. Yeah... It's criminal how this movie was looked over by the masses. But then again, not many people are into watching great art. It just shows you how people tend to gravitate towards the blockbuster movies that are action packed that give you what you want. Blade Runner 2049 is not such a film. It's a visceral journey and an experience. You are merely a witness. I was in awe of how the movie was made and it reinvigorated my love for filmmaking and it reminds you of the pursuit that a director goes through to develop and morph an idea into his vision. Something that is singular and truly their own. A modern day magnum opus. And Roger Deakins shot the film. What more do i need to say...
I love watching films, and I love both 'Blade Runner' (The Final Cut) and 'Blade Runner 2049', though, even as a "Blade Runner buff" myself, these films are hard to recommend. I wish everyone loved movies like I do.
This was like seeing a Christmas present pop up in my subscription list. My favorite movie I’ve ever seen! Absolutely love every second of this, thanks for putting up this content for free you guys! Legendary!
This is my favorite movie of the last decade!! Die hard fan of the original for so long and the fact that this lived up to it is a movie miracle!! You guys really need to get into Denis Villeneuve, arguably the best In the business.
I guess many people were not ready for this movie at its release, as it failed at box office. But for me, its among the best Sci-fi movies of all time.
I remember going to watch this at the cinema with some school mates. And the sea wall scene was just amazing, the sound send vibrations through your ribcage and you could feel everything with the base.
I can't believe a film as incredible as this one was a commercial flop. I had my doubts when it was announced but I can confidently say I think I like this one better than the original. Very rare for a sequel.
Every time I rewatch this movie if grows on me even more. I already liked it from the first time I watched it but I think someday it'll reach the level of how much I love the first Blade Runner (the proper cut).
So sad you guys watched it in such circonstances, I love you, like a lot, love your channel, love your personalities and all... But THAT movie, is an ambient movie, an experience, made to be watch in a dark, silent room with volume at 200%..!!! Keep up and thank your for sharing your passion
Had the opportunity to watch this in imax few days before it left. One of the best films I watch with extraordinary sound design and music. Especially the scene wifh Harrison Ford and Ryan fighting each other in that showroom.
This is the perfect sequel, builds on everything established in the first and is also unbelievably beautiful. Also removes all of the bullshit Ridley Scott added in later to his movie that implies Deckard is a replicant.
This might be one of my favorite movies ever. I just recently watched it with my dad and I was blown away. Visuals are off the chart, great acting, a imo perfect continuation to the first movie, music that gave me goosebumps the whole end-part of the movie, a great twist that I did not see coming at all and a nice (kinda) closing ending. I was so fucking bummed that I didnt know the blade runner universe when this was released in theaters, that mustve been such a freaking great watch.
Blade runner has been my favorite film since I was little. Being born on the mid 80s. I was so hesitant to see this film. I watched Prisoners one night and I said, ok! That film was amazing let’s see what this director has done with this film. My only regret is not experiencing this in IMAX. I F’ing love 2049! Dare I say I like it more than the first film. The soundtrack is outstanding, Roger Deacons cinematography is perfect, everything was so beautifully done. So much respect and admiration for the first film but this film just sent me through the stratosphere. Especially the sea wall scene when K is saving Deckard on the beach and that music is kicking in. I had tears and goosebumps. Love your guys reaction! Thank you and it was a pleasure watching this experience with you
He was an experiment. the replicants with 4 year life spans were the regular commercial models being sold to customers. the 4 year span was a designed feature for safety.
@@werdle92 but there is no evidence of this, I appreciate it as a theory but all there is to prove it is the unicorn dream sequence that Ridley decided to add in after the movie was already out
12:40 His reflection appears to be looking at the back of her head…and it turns out the memories he saw were HERS. K is literally looking into her head. This movie is FULL of details like that.
you know it's not a bad idea to do SOME research, how do you not even know the director of the movie you just watched yet alone remember the director of the first one? Staying through at least some of the credits might help too. Let the movie wash over you, let your experience of the film simmer a little...glad that you guys enjoyed it though.
Pretty surface-level observation but to add to the discussion, i feel like the point of Joy was for the story to ask us the question "If you can't tell, does it even matter?". If Joe loves Joy, does it really matter that she's not real? His love would be real either way. Just like if you can't tell someone is a replicant, does it matter that they're a replicant? Are they not still people? They breath and feel and hurt and love like we do, their experiences are still real.
I’m so glad someone finally got to watch this movie without knowing about Ford ahead of time. I always thought the movie would be just a bit better if you didn’t see the trailer or posters
You guys have to see Baby driver, 22 jump street, Snowpiercer, Birdman, The imitation game, Hackshaw ridge, Ford V Ferrari... I will keep adding if I can remember more🙃...
Love this movie. Villeneuve is my favorite director in Hollywood at the time, and Deakins is the greatest in his work. Shame u do not recognize Denis, watch Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival! Cannot wait for his Dune.
I have always interpreted Deckard as human, Rachel as a Replicant, and the miracle being that she got pregnant - not that two replicants procreated. Like Agathon/Hera in Battlestar Galactica.
The opening city shot on way to lapd and maybe other city shots were actual large miniature model sets that they added cgi to in post , pretty cool video of behind the scenes available on youtube
So glad that we finally got Harry Ford & Ry Gos! Equally as glad that the crew enjoyed it. I'm still in the camp that believe it should've been nominated for Best Picture. One of the best made films in the last decade.
Oh man you don't know how happy I am! This film is an Artistic Masterpiece, Hands down! I will go as far to say that this is even better than the first film, for me. @@stormtraitor6545 and to be clear, i'm not shitting on his work in 2049, If anything, this is just a pet peeve of mine
It was once considered an impossible task to even imagine an okay sequel to the original Bladerunner.
2049 went above and beyond the impossible. It matches the original and in some ways exceeds it.
Denis Vileneuve is the greatest director of our time.
Dune will show the world why.
Speaking of Denis. His other films are all 10/10 aswell;
Prisoners
Enemy
Sicario
Arrival
BR2049
What's amazing is that all of these films were released yearly. From 2013 with Prisoners to 2017 with BR2049.
That alone is a herculean feat.
The fact that Denis has spent the last 3 + years focusing on Dune alone makes me think its going to be an unmatched masterpiece. His magnum opus
Since y'all don't know about Denis Villenueve... Would love to see y'all react to: Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival, Enemy.
Don't forget Incendies. Maybe his best one
@@jkbxofficial I haven't seen it yet! I have seen Polytechnique tho
@@SidPhoenix2211 incendies is 🔥..
56:03 JOI is portrayed by Ana de Armas who also plays Marta in Knives Out, she's a tremendously talented actress
Is so talented and so gorgeous! Can’t wait to see her in the new 007 film
"tremendously talented" ? She is talented, but there are far greater actresses working nowadays.
@@hoya1178 I never said she was the greatest actress but yeah okay whatever
@@hoya1178 I assumed they were talking about her talents on display in this movie.
JOI is also a catorgory of porn lol.
Mainly because he survived that long, replicants in his time can only live a couple years
It can be read both ways, and that was definitely intentional.
@@TheOTA101Yet the Bautista replicant was old...and the old one-eyed woman was a replicant - somehow she survived a blade runner who took her eye.
Probably the most effort Harrison Ford has put into a role in 30 years.
You're not wrong.
True
He shows a surprising amount of range in Shrinking.
The track "Sea Wall" from this soundtrack is AWESOME
YESSSSSS When I saw this leave the poll I was SOOO sad!!! I was hoping it would be a crew pick you have made my day!
Same!
Masterpiece of a movie. A big screen experience, visuals, sound, everything.
Can't believe you guys don't know Denis Villeneuve
This is one of the best movies ever made IMO
At least one of the best post 2000.
"just reacted to his DUNE trailer" - I can only find the reaction to the old trailer. Are you sure they reacted to the new one?
@@toh786 They didn't react to the new trailer because they said it showed too much
@@toh786 But they will be reacting to the movie when it comes out
I love this movie because it feels like it tries really hard to stay true to the original.
That Bryan Rosling is a great choice for a lead character!
Uhh it's Byron Moseling
Bryan Rosling and Jarrison Bord did such a stunning job in this movie
@@kirani111 Oscar worthy
@@kirani111 Myron Bosling is one of my favorites.
Still the most beautifully shot movie I've ever seen. A masterclass in lighting, cinematography, sound design and editing.
Cinematography and music in this film is brilliant.
The greatest sequel ever made. My absolute fave film of the 2010s.
This was a movie you had to experience in IMAX, it was such a phenomenal experience.
3 hours drive to see this in an IMAX theater. No regrets.

Love this movie! They managed to exceed the original in almost everyway which I would have thought impossible before seeing it myself.
We need more movies like this. This is art. It feels like such a realized world
28:28 There's a line after the "What if you were designed.." that's really important and keeps the ambiguity. He says, "That is, if you were designed"
One of my favorite films of all time. Thank you for covering it.
Thank you and it was a pleasure watching this experience with you
This is one of the greatest and most beautiful films ever made. Also the best CGI ever put to film. A masterful film.
Deckard is not a replicant because otherwise he could not live that long, the replicants in his time could only live a couple years.
He was an experiment. the replicants with 4 year life spans were the regular commercial models being sold to customers. the 4 year span was a designed feature for safety.
@@werdle92 but there is no evidence of this, I appreciate it as a theory but all there is to prove it is the unicorn dream sequence that Ridley decided to add in after the movie was already out
Both Blade Runners are fucking masterpieces.
One of the greatest movies imo.
I saw this in IMAX when it came out and has been by far the best movie I’ve ever seen with the cinematography and soundtrack plus a great plot.
Check out his film Prisoners. Edit: All the director's films are amazing, but that one stands out for me.
What a fantastic movie this is. Seriously underrated.
The Blade Runner movies are science-fiction at its finest!
There are so many other good films that this director also directed that you should check out. Personal favourites from him is Arrival and Sicario
Criminally underrated movie. Every shot could be hung in an art gallery
They don't know who Denis Villeneuve is? lol

Favourite film of the year it came out so many amazing sequences, details, the score, the sound, just amazing
12:40 His reflection appears to be looking at the back of her head…and it turns out the memories he saw were HERS. K is literally looking into her head. This movie is FULL of details like that.
he directed Arrival, and the new Dune movie, between others, obvi.
you know it's not a bad idea to do SOME research, how do you not even know the director of the movie you just watched yet alone remember the director of the first one? Staying through at least some of the credits might help too. Let the movie wash over you, let your experience of the film simmer a little...glad that you guys enjoyed it though.
This movie is a modern day masterpiece.
I will keep adding if I can remember more🙃...
deakins cinematography is on another level.
Shit i'd gotten all excited for 22 Jump Street forgot that's not till next week. Oh well.

Love this movie. Villeneuve is my favorite director in Hollywood at the time, and Deakins is the greatest in his work. Shame u do not recognize Denis, watch Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival! Cannot wait for his Dune.

All the smoke and ash in Reno today giving me Blade Runner vibes.
I feel it a better experience watching the shorts then watch 2049 too have better understanding going in
You have to since they do bring up the blackout, you meet Wallace and Batista's character beforehand.
You guys should really see A Cure for Wellness, it's a fantastic psychological horror movie that flew under the radar when it came out.

Nobody from the Blind Wave crew likes K's coat? This is the first reaction video I've seen where the reactors didn't mention his coat 😄
I really hope they make more movies and with each one we get closer to 2093 and 2122
Wow shocked you guys haven’t seen this yet. One of my favorite movies. Can’t wait to see what you guys think!
Had the pleasure to watch this on the big screen, I'd pay a second time if they put it in theaters again, simply beautiful
This is the closest I can come to Dune for the time being so I'll take it!
I actually enjoyed this way more at home than I did at the cinema…

Oh man you don't know how happy I am! This film is an Artistic Masterpiece, Hands down! I will go as far to say that this is even better than the first film, for me.
