    Great video love the historical part of this video. The MacDonalds, including the MacLeods can trace their ancestry back to a Norse ancestor Godred Crovan who ruled as the King of the Isles in 1095 A.D. Castle Leod was originally built by my great grandfather Leod Olafsson; (six or seven generations removed,) in the 11th century and whose descendants would become known as Clan MacLeod. Granted to John of Killin, 10th Chief of Clan MacKenzie (1485-1561) after he fought at the Battle of Flodden.

    Aussie, here! I’m descended from MacDonalds & Scotts.
    The MacDonalds have loomed large in Scotland’s history- & they were among the most powerful, & *definitely* the largest of the clans - in their long history, they fought many feuds over the ages- with other clans- like the MacGregors, as well as the Crown.
    Their feud against the Campbells is the more infamous, but the feud between the MacDonalds & the MacLeods is *fascinating* reading!

    I have seen few episodes of this show, but I know a bit about the Clans. One of the first inaccuracies is that the McKenzie Clan calls their chief “The McKenzie” not a McKenzie thing. Only the Chisholm’s refer to their chief as “The Chisholm” as “there are only 3 entities on earth deserving of the title “The”, The Pope, The King and The Chisholm” Still a vain prideful bunch, the Chisholms

      @@OutlandishJourneys Wrong about the Munro's Orignins! Munro means Mount Ross, and were known as Monross' during the breif age of the Laird of Isles, the Earl of Ross (mother was a Ross) the last True Earl of Ross although not a Ross by Paternal Line. The Munro's were not given land by the King, but by the War Master of Scotland, Chief of the Great Clan Ross, an Earl of Ross (not sure which one, 2nd or 3rd I think) for putting down a Rebellion in Easter Ross (eastern half the the Earldom of Ross) and were given a Fiefdom split in two parts on each side of Easter Ross and I am pretty sure they were there for a while, and are Picts, not Irish! The present Chief of Ross, Barron Ross of Ross (for short) before his Barronship to a Castle was called the Chief of Ross, Sir David Campbell Ross of Ross formerly of Picland, and most like the Mont Ross' (Munro's) coming from Mountains in Easter Ross, flanking the biggest open area in the Highlands, and the old heart and blood of the Highlands, and smack dab in Pictland, were not Irish! But Picts! Unless you know of some Irish Kingdom smack dab in the middle of Pictland? I am not aware of? The Irish invaded the Western Coasts, and x amount under Wester Ross (Wester half of Ross-shire) was their Kingdom, but on the Eastern Side the Border of Pictland was with the Anglos or Norse, not Irish, and by the Time Ross (before that name, as Clan Arias) moved from Apple Cross in Wester Ross to Easter Ross former the 1st Scottish Earldom, the Earldom of Ross from the ashes of the Mormaerdom of Ross, with the last Mormaer of Ross (& of 2 other places), being the Thane turned Mad Kind Macbeth! (No relation). The Munro's were giving their Fiefdom by Ross for Crushing a Rebellion in Ross, while the War Master and Chief, the Earl of Ross was away, with our Army and by the time the War Master heard news of the Rebellion, the News went, their was a Rebellion in Ross, and the Munro's Crushed it! the Chief of Clan Arias, the Son the Priest Fearchar crushed a Rebellion in Moray (now part of Ross County, the most recent addition) and his Cousin the King made him his Right Hand, and War Master of Scotland, and the Title of Earl of Ross, the 1st Scottish Earl, for King Malcom (redundant perhaps, Malcom was a Title) just gave way to a more Norse and Anglo Political Style and Fearchar! the Next in line to in any meaningful way, being the Kings Right Hand and Favored Cousin. Now I guess its possible the Munro's were "Irish" if in the Brief Age before that were the Scotti's Political over took the Picts, and formed the beginnings of Modern Scotland, and since that "Administration" was surely Scotti and not Pict for the most part for sure, I guess its possible during that time frame they migrated to Easter Ross and the Heart of Pictland. Now if you said Norse or something left behind from an ancient invasion I would beleive that, because that pennisula was named Ros, and that name extended to the whole area after a while, but who were the Ros'? Pesky Vikings mon? That's why we added an s, and sometime I think way back when that name was given because of them. Now Ross' maybe Irish, some say we come from some ancient O's I can't spell the name of, and we maybe Scotti's, its possible, but it is also possible we are getting over powered by Irish Culture, and they are very dismissive of the Picts, and would prefer a Royal Line of Scotland be Irish instead of Picts, so with their baises they simply suggest such more than we suggest pictish origns, which some think is a given in the Heart Land of the Picts, which is still in some Royals Modern Titles, formerly of Pictland! And the Munro's were certainly in the middle of it.

      @@OutlandishJourneys the MacKenzies are from Wester Ross, its not a Clan of Pedigrees, but just anyone under their Thumb could bare the name. The MacKenzies were always nipping at the Ross' heels, but after a Countess Ross, Married MacDonald Laird of the Isles, and Produced the Laird of the Isles the Earl of Ross and we made War! On all the Kingdoms for years doing Viking Style Raids till Ross-shire was Decimated again, and Ross' slowly started to lose their power, and our Rival, the Chiefs of Clan Mackenzie always wanted the Title Earl of Ross, saying their Claim was that they were one of Fearchar's brother or a 2nd son or something, and were estranged relatives who were always envious, and did not have Claim over the Title Earl of Ross, less so than any Ross' within the Great Clan Ross, and it was a Ridiculous Claim, but over the Centuries they got their Chance to Stab us in the back and did! With our Cousins and Rivals the English Crown Full Support, and they Replaced us, killed us, forced us out of Ross-shire, and by order of the Crown, Ross' and Septs of Ross that could not prove their pedigree by paperwork became Mackenzies! But I don't know, maybe the hatchet is buried, even though buried the 1st time in our backs! And maybe mee cousin the Earl of Cromarty (spelling) is getting along just Fine with the Chief of Ross, Barron of Balnagown David Campbell Ross of Ross and Formerly of Pictland, a Ross is Ross-shire told me the Ross' Mackenzie's, MacLeod's and the Penndragons are getting along Great, however, it appears to me many MacKenzies are trying to hide their Great Shame of Killing us, and like to pretend their was no Earldom of Ross or Earls of Ross, and the whole lot of it... Still looks a little nasty to me...

Also, according to all linguistic experts, ancient Egyptian as a language, and Somali (a Cushitic language) come from the same ancestral Proto-afroasiatic language family spoken over 18,000 years ago: its like how Celtic and Germannic are two branches of indo European, just like ancient Egyptian and Cushitic Somali are two related branches of Afroasiatic...we share the same E1b1b y dna haplogroup as well, especially. I'm not definitively certain whether ancient Egyptians originated from the horn of Africa, but the populations of both regions (namely the Cushites and ancient Egyptians) descend from the same ancestral group of people, and share genetic and linguistic ties

      Aye. Clan MacGregor are indeed Siol Alpin, along with Clan Grant, Clan MacKinnon, Clan MacAulay, Clan MacFie, Clan MacQuarrie and Clan MacNab. I disagree with this video saying Clan Grant are descended from the Norman's, they are descended from King Alpin.

    • @OutlandishJourneys
      @OutlandishJourneys  4 роки тому +3

      Thanks for your comments...sadly, there is no hard, accurate, historic evidence for any of the 'old' Clan origins and many are wrapped up in myth and legend. While the Siol Alpin and the Clans associated with it are a popular feature of Clan histories, there is no primary historic evidence, nor any factual genealogies to track any families directly back to Kenneth I...many Clan origin stories are passed down in oral histories, which are certainly very important, but there is no written historic evidence to prove any of the supposed Siol Alpin links. In terms of the Grants, as you'll see if you rewatch my video, I didn't say they WERE descended from the Normans, I stated that they POSSIBLY were...likewise, they are POSSIBLY linked to Kenneth I...a third THEORY is that they are (again POSSIBLY) linked to the Viking incursions into Scotland. Primary evidence is virtually non-existent for any of the Clan origins, let alone 'Scotland's' early monarchs, so we have to do our best with the materials that we have. Sadly, none of it is easy too prove one way or another. Thanks for watching and have a great day! :)
