- Two Putlitzer Prize-winning Historians--David Blight and Jon Meacham--discuss Meacham's new book, And There Was Light: Abraham Lincoln and the American Struggle. This enlightening, funny, and very relevant conversation took place at the 2022 Kentucky Book Festival.
Dr. Blight was my High School 'Civil War I & II' Teacher at Flint Northern H.S. in 1977-78, his last year there, before earning his Master of the Arts in 76 and never looking back..!! It was a joy & honor to be a Student of Mr. Blight, and he reminds me of the character John Keating in 'Dead Poets Society' because he would use unusual & unique teaching methods that were inspired by his belief that he was a participant in that War, and has been reincarnated as a Civil War Teacher, with a mission to share his past life experiences with those desiring to "Listen, Read & LEARN"..!! The annual Spring Field Trip to Gettysburg, PA, to experience the battlefields, monuments & ghosts stories, was the "Highlight of my High School" memories. He loved teaching, respected his students and his students simply adored him. You NEVER skipped his class and Mr Blight's classroom was always "FULL" and I was very fortunate to get a rare seat in 10th grade, as Seniors & Juniors got to pick classes first and usually took them all... Nobody knew it was his 'Last Year' so, again, I was super lucky and I have been a Civil War History Lover my entire life. Thank You Mr. Blight..!!
Wonderful! We need people like y'all at this time
Two All-Stars. Two of the most enjoyable historians to read and listen to.
They should tour together. Two of my favorites
Refreshing and enjoyable. Thank you.
Had a problem hearing Dr. Blight even at my device's full volume. So I opened the transcript which got me through. I hope that Kentucky Humanities can use a different mic set up so they don't have to hand hold their own microphones!
A very worthwhile, educational discussion.
Everytime I listen to David Blight I'm struck at how much he sounds like Harrison Ford!
Hmm. Kentucky. I thought they wanted to ban books there.
Some in the state want to. Readers, and censors, live everywhere.
