Dmitry Bivol: Canelo NEVER Negotiated Rematch, Says WBC 'Issue' Nearly Resolved For Undisputed Fight

- Michelle Joy Phelps interviewed WBA Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitry Bivol via Zoom to discuss his upcoming December 23rd fight on the Anthony Joshua vs Otto Wallin undercard against IBO Champion Lyndon Arthur. Bivol expressed optimism when asked about the WBC's position on not sanctioning the Undisputed fight between him and Artur Beterbiev due to Bivol's Russian nationality. During Fury vs Ngannou week in Saudi Arabia, discussions were held to make the mega-fight happen, and a plan was presented by the WBC. Eddie Hearn pronotes Canelo and Bivol. Hearn stated that Bivol rejected a career high payday from Canelo for the rematch.

Hearn admitting Bivol rejected an offer is an even worse look for Bivol because Bivol was the Matchroom fighter. Canelo was no longer under contract with him by then.

Bivol talking out of both sides of his mouth as usual when his own promoter contradicted his claims about never receiving an offer. Hearns stated earlier in the year: "We offered Bivol a deal, which he didn’t accept." “I still think it’s the preferential choice of Saul, but obviously he’s got Charlo, and he’s got Benavidez." Bivol himself was complaining about refusing to fight under the supposed same terms and was insisting that he'd refuse to rematch him at 175 period even though Bivol has only ever fought at 175 lol. And his manager Kornilov went further and stated in the Russian press that Bivol would rather walk away with a win than risk his 175 belt because Canelo remained dangerous and in boxing you can miss and get knocked out (his words).
The ironic part is Bivol had previously stated that he was willing to walk away from the Canelo fight because he didn't care about money, only legacy, and tried to frame it like he was set to face Beterbiev instead, but he was coming off pulling out of talks with Beterbiev citing money ha. The reality is those fights would have brought him both legacy and money, however, he dismissed them both and yet was legit trying to fight Munguia at 175 instead. Also, in this very interview he admits to receiving other offers but they supposedly weren't interesting enough for him. Instead he somehow decided the best option was killing his momentum by sitting out inactive while making no money and wasting over a year of his prime. Beterbiev has put him on blast numerous times for being all talk while refusing to get it done including saying it to his face and Gvozdyk has also repeatedly called him out but he doesn't even acknowledge him. Bivol wasn't making big moves prior to facing Canelo and seems even less motivated after receiving that big payday.
How can you have the "same terms" against someone who beat you. Canelo wants to fight bivol for bivol's belt but is scared to put his own on the line. Eddie Hearn is not even Bivol's promoter, his promoter's name is Andrey Ryabinkskiy . Everything you said is wrong. Bivol literally can't fight Beterbiev if he wanted to considering the WBC banned Russians from holding their title. You wrote paragraphs without any substance or truth to them.

@@wondays654 Bivol is literally signed to Hearn's Matchroom promotion. It was Canelo who was no longer under contract with him and yet was still trying to pursue a rematch according to Bivol's own team. We don't even know the details of the offer, the point is both Bivol's promoter and Bivol himself contradicted his claim that no offer was made. And he contradicted himself even on the money talk, saying he was willing to reject the big payday that came with a rematch because he wasn't motivated by money. And Bivol's manager flat out said Bivol didn't want to risk putting his belt on the line. Bivol was vaguely using the talk of refusing to fight under the same terms to refer to his refusal to fight at 175 because he realized how ridiculous it sounds for a career light heavyweight to say he won't fight in his only division especially when that was the weight of the first fight.
Funny thing is, at another point Bivol stated that he felt he'd probably struggle making 168 and would refuse to fight anyone else at 168 except for Canelo because his priority was light heavyweight, when nobody was asking him to move down, that's just him inventing his own roadblock to not fight Canelo.
And yes, Bivol could literally fight Beterbiev. The WBC's involvement isn't necessary for the two two fight, but Bivol passed on it even before Sulaiman specified that they wouldn't sign off on it. Earlier in the year, Bivol's same manager admitted to pulling out of unification talks for a fight that would have been staged in June or July while citing money as their excuse (which again was a contradiction). Meanwhile, Sulaiman stated that Bivol hadn't even tried applying for an exemption like Beterbiev. And when Bivol asked he said he wasn't thinking about that because a fight has to be negotiated first except he wasn't negotiating lol. He's been champ for over 6 years yet still wouldn't take steps to unify even though Beterbiev is closing in on 40.
Dude rejected every high profile fight while contradicting himself back and forth with excuses, and after a year of being MIA, finally turned up just to fight Anthony Yarde's leftovers. Fighters want to get paid like Canelo but won't put in work or take risks to be in his shoes.
