    I teach 7th and 8th grade and they enjoyed. The first time I played it, I had the students sit down where they were tagged. I adjusted the rules the next time I played it. When a student is "hit or tagged" with the dodgeball, they now become taggers and must stand half-court and tag other students that are trying to cross and make it to the other side. The only caveat is, the taggers in the middle (half-court) can only pivot (and not move or chase) to tag the students who are running to the other side.

    This game worked out very well with my 3rd-5th graders. I'm guessing it would also be a hit for middle school as well- and perhaps HS. Aiming is big in this game, along with speed. If the two people who are "it" cannot hit a target or run down a runner to tag them, the game can drag along. I jumped in and played once this was happening to speed up the game. Great cardio!!! The kids ALL loved the challenge

    It's funny how coddled our kids have become. No dodgeball, no tag, no elimination games! C'mon. These games are fun for the vast majority of students. Don't penalize the majority because a few might not be as good at it as the rest. You're always going to have kids who aren't as physically gifted. It's like saying we shouldn't hold band tryouts anymore because it would alienate the crappy instrument players. Allow everyone in!
    If you stress that any of these are GAMES and FOR FUN, no ones feelings should be getting hurt anyway. Getting out in dodgeball will not emotionally scar you for life.

      If you are ignoring 5% of your students for the questionable benefit of the rest, please leave teaching. True in any subject.

      @@matthewkoogler678 I agree but you can find a way for that 5% to be involved and enjoy the game as well.

      In my 16 years of teaching experience dodgeball and other dodgeball-like games can promote bullying behavior. I’ve seen it first hand.

      Yup.
      For fun. Fun is the absolute key phrase to stress. **Middle school teacher.**
      I have a few soapbox statements that I use to develop class procedural & behavioral expectations for class.
      Any given day you will hear me saying:
      1. “No one tries out for PE.”
      2. “No one is going pro in ______ (list any game).”
      3. “Teams will be made fairly, but not necessarily equal.”
      4. Each day I offer two levels of play that students self-assign; competitive and “church”. (Competitive is self explanatory and “church” is the focus on making all of classmates present to have fun in participating.)
      5. PE is only as fun as the level of happiness and comfort of the kid that has always dreaded PE.
      6. The lynchpin to my classroom management plan is, “behavior dictates need,” positive and room-for-growth behaviors are recognized regularly.

    Careful with the use of "we." Any game can be useful if done by the right kind of PE teacher. Games only become aggressive if your personality allows it.

    What if they catch the ball ? Do they still sit or do they switch places ?

    • @physedgames
      @physedgames  2 роки тому +1

      I usually play no catching allowed (must sit) but you could do either way

    I like this game but I hate allowing kids to sit or even stand when out. Can anyone think of some alternatives? My high school kids get out on purpose just to sit with their friends.

    • @physedgames
      @physedgames  Рік тому +1

      You could have it where whenever a player is hit, he or she switches places with the thrower instead of sitting down

      dodgeball and elimination games help kids understand concepts and failure, if presented the right way and in a controlled environment, just about any game is able to be fun, elimination or not.
