Finally someone has finally watched this practical effect masterpiece in my opinion Hellboy is literally my favorite movie and little one of my favorite comic book character
Yea that giant squid was practical or when that fourbeyes was moving or running attacking.
@@iancruz6617yeah the samuel was mostly practical and it's such a beautiful design it's such a beautiful design I think out of con it's got its own like statue a part of a museum of spectacular creature designs
Ditto ❤
Finally?
Yeah Hellboy is really awesome. My father showed it to me when it came to the TV in Germany. I love the second part too. ❤️
Ron Perlman was perfect as Hellboy.
Totally agree. Vin Diesel at one point was considered to play Hellboy in this version but he was already busy working on other movies.
This one is cool. Hellboy 2 is even more fun!
I wish they would have done a 3 or more with this original cast.
Me too!
I always seem to be in the minority, as someone who absolutely hated Hellboy 2. After the amazing first movie, which followed story beats from the comics, Hellboy 2 was just not as good, didn't have anything from the comics, did the weird pregnancy angle, turned Johann into Comic Relief. Wasn't based on any actual myth or legend. Just not a good movie.
This and The Golden Army are both pretty dope. Haven't seen the remake w/ David Harbor so no comment on that but these original 2 are again, dope
do yourself a favor and dont... unless you just REALLY need more hellboy content. I feel like the lead does an OK hellboy, but the comedy was off for me and the VFX coulda been done better by a highschooler after watching a few youtube tutorials. if you go into, go into it under the influence of something and expect playdoe people and ketchup blood.
I absolutely love their take on Elves in The Golden Army. Luke Goss is pretty underrated
The David Harbor one is non existent to me lol
Selma Blair was hot 🔥
i read its shitty
Yes, Doug Jones does the movements for the fish guy as well as the creature from Pan's Labyrinth.
Yep, with David Hyde Pierce doing his voice.
Doug Jones was also the fish guy in Shape of Water.
edit: Along with so many other things. My favourite is one of the Gentlemen from the Buffy Episode named Hush. 😊
Love this move. Grew up watching it, so it's very nostalgic.
@JordanCesaroni93 same here, plus I love Ron Perlman as Hellboy. David Harbour was pretty good but Ronl Perlman had him beat
Loved this movie growing up. The sequel Hellboy: The Golden Army is just as amazing.
This is great, and I think the sequel was even better Golden Army.
The sequel was my favorite action movie as a kid hands down
golden army is the sequel
@@purpleowlanimation damn I didn’t even know that!! I’m not familiar with the comics so I just assumed it was from there bc of how well it worked
I genuinely cannot understand this take. I seem to be the only one who loved the first movie and hated the second.
Love Del Toro's Hellboys they are so good. Especially the Golden Army, which is honestly one of my favorite superhero/comic films.
If you're at all interested in graphic novels/comics, the Hellboy comics by Mike Mignola are AMAZING. Del Toro's two Hellboy movies did a nice job adapting the comics as well as adding several very del Toro touches.
Enjoyed this so much better than the re-make. Actually, I got bored with the new one. John Hurt is one of my very favorite actors, which he plays the professor so great. Now, please do "The Golden Army", you will not be disappointed.
this movie is a masterpiece and Ron Perlman is incredibly underrated, such a quality actor.
An actor named Doug Jones played Abe "Fish guy" Sapien, The other fish guy in "The shape of water", both humanoid creatures in "Pan's Labyrinth", Saru on Star Trek Discovery and MANY other roles, often with heavy latex prosthetic makeup.
He's 6' 4" and weighs about 140 pounds.
I love Hellboy!!! That was an awesome movie. Hope you guys react to the sequel.
Love all 3 Hellboy live action flicks, especially the first 2. There are 2 animated films with Ron Perlman too.
You guys definitely have to watch Hellboy ll The Golden Army now, i actually think it much better than the first film. Luke Goss is awesome as the villain.
Luke Goss is always good. It's a shame he was never better known, but with the problems he was having in his life, I don't blame him.
Literally a masterpiece my dad showed me this movie as a kid and I feel inlove, Ron was a perfect casting choice and he’s hilarious definitely still holds up and still fun to watch even years later.
The practical effects, animatronics, prosthetics and makeup of this movie as well as in the sequel look better than most VFX and CGI today! I’m not knocking down VFX artists AT ALL, they bust their asses as much as any other department on any movie or tv show. But there is something about actual tangible practical effects (like in Hellboy) that give a sense of realism which draws the audience in more to the story. And sadly not all movie productions have the time or money of say the Avatar movies to make CGI look as great as real life.
I agree,...5 nights at Freddies, while the movie could have been a lot better, i really appreciated the practical effects...i had assumed it was going to be all cgi and wasnt going to bother, but i was impressed with that part of the movie, just needed a lot more.
In real life he's john hurt, he had a xenomorph pop out of him twice, sells magic wands and is a timelord
This and Golden Army are just dripping with style! Such fun movies!
John Hurt (Hellboy's "father") also played "Elephant Man", and had the alien burst out of his chest in "Alien". How you missed that...
Doug Jones was also the "Silver Surfer".
Hope you guys watch the second film I got to see that one in theaters as a kid.
Unfortunately we never got a third film cuz Mike Mignola Guillermo del Toro got to a dispute part the third script which meant ending their friendship and their partnership.
(Mike mignola is the creator of Hellboy)
You would love the second one Hellboy and the golden army! let's watch that too
@CinePals this is my favorite version of Hellboy, don't get me wrong Hellboy with David Harbour was good but Ron Perlman was the best actor to play and voice Hellboy
Such a classic movie 🔥🔥🔥
Hellboy is such a great movie.
The Hellboy comics are really good it took a long break but I like how they explained it, Hellboy fell from the moon to earth landed in the ocean and the time cap is Hellboy just walking and finding his way back
I so surprised that you didn't know who John Hurt was. He was such a great actor. He was also in Harry Potter if it helps.
John Hurd was also in another great si fi classic Alien. 👏👽🙂
Yes, yes, you are correct sir. He was also in a all time classic King Raph.
Possible spoiler alert: Hellboy and his full strength can beat Thanos and Darkseid simultaneously. Hellboy is the son of the devil and the descendant of king Arthur.
Rasputin in real life survived like 7 brutal assaniation attempts they just couldn't kill him
That is funny to see them reacting about Doug Jones as the creature guy about this movie. Because, at that time, for young adults who had been kids in the 80s, the creature guy dealing with prosthetics was Ron Perlman.
Ron Perlman was a Neanderthal in Quest for Fire 1981, Salvatore in the Name of the Rose 1986, the Beast in TV series Beauty and The Beast (1987-1990). Although he has no make-up in the City of Lost Children 1995 , his role is based on his unusual physique. And he was the voice of Clayface in the DC Animated Universe.
And John Hurt who is not recognizable because of his make-up in Hellboy, was an unforgettable Elephant Man 1980.
In Hellboy II : The Golden Army 2008, Guillermo Del Toro did not have the budget to make some CGI sequences as he wanted. So, he simply lowered his expectations for them to make them OK.
This second opus had an higher budget, an more impressive practical sets, and a lot of beautiful Del Toro imagery.
The vilain has a lot more depth in the second one.
I hope you watch the second one to, its even better than the first and goes in to the universe more
I was only 4 and Hellboy was awesome and at the same time gave me nightmares. The dude with no eyelids scared the shit out of me and It felt damn near like a horror movie. For it’s time it was really pushing the dichotomies of being an antihero
John Hurt was also in Snowpiercer another really cool movie
Love this movie and it’s sequel
When you think about Ron Pearlman also playing the Beast in that old 90s tv beauty and the beast it kind of puts him up there as one of the greats when it comes to costume/make-up acting.
The sequel is very good. (Golden Army)
He was the guy who had the baby alien pop out of his chest in ALIEN - Hi beautiful Steph : )
The second one is one of the best comic book movies of all time
That tooth fairy scene is so fucked up for a pg-13 movie
Second movie felt different to the first one then I look up a different studio made it because the one who did the first one went bank rupt when they starting something good that shy happen
Titanic was of 13
@@iancruz6617 ahhh that makes so much sense. Second one feels like Del Toro through and through
The sequel is EVEN better!!! Was really hoping for a complete trilogy! It DESERVES a 3rd movie! But there’s HOPE for the future! Hopefully NEAR future
An absolutely favorite comic book based movie character
Both movies are fantastic (you definitely need to see the Golden Army) its still incredibly uncomfortable to this day we never did get our trilogy 😔😞
Ron Perlman forever to me is Hellboy it's his.
I tbh didn't like that they did a remake so I can't have an opinion on it but if people liked it that's there choice and opinion nuf said😁👍
One of my favorite movies ever! Love Ron Perlman!
This and the sequel are films that make me go "How did they come up with all this?" And that's before the execution of it. A lot of the movies Ron stars in are like that come to think of it. Golden Army is just next level stuff actually. There is no way after having seen this one I could have anticipated that one.
took five hours to get Ron Perlman in the Hellboy makeup. about the same amount of time to get it off again. he did it EVERY DAY of filming for TWO movies and AGAIN several years later to meet a kid from the Make A Wish Foundation. dude rules.
This movie really was the peak of the modern comic book movie era. This was around the time of the first Spider-man 2, X-men 2 etc. Before the MCU took over.
I dressed up as Hellboy when i was 7 years old, this was my favourite film for YEARS
John hurt also played Olivander the wand maker in the first and last harry Potter movies.
He also was in Alien the first one as the guy with the little baby Alien bursting out of his chest.
@@LenOliver-yz6osoh yeah that too!
Hellboy is underrated AF. So is The Golden Army.
Never a better Hellboy than Ron Pearlman. ❤️
💗Loved Ron Perlman & Linda Hamilton in the 1987 tv series 'Beauty & the Beast'
Always respected how David Hyde Pierce refused to have his name in the credits for doing Abe's voice because he felt it took away from Doug Jones's performance.
The clock work guy is still alive but it be really hard for him to get out of that pit
John Hurt was also the guy in ALIEN that had the alien explode out of his chest : ) Steph : )
Hellboy has some really good animated movies with this movie cast. One with vampires and another with Japanese demons. Well worth watching.
I enjoyed the David Harbour casting for Hellboy and the R-rating. The movie just felt a little aimless.
The actor who plays the Fishman in this is the same one from Shape of Water. Doug Jones
Del Toro’s Underrated movies👌
I & II are awesome and not as popular/highly rated as I would think. Ron Perlman was perfect in this, to me, even though the comic book people will disagree.
I always love your reactions. Its so fun to watch you. ❤️
As good as this one is, I think, at least visually, the HBII: The Golden Army is even more beautiful.
My uncle had this in dvd and a 6 year old me was mind blown
I’ve always loved the detail of Hellboy’s breath becoming visible after he transforms. You mostly see it added to imply ice powers, which I don’t think is how condensation works. 🤔
Great reaction we need the 2nd movie guys.
24:44 sumeone finally said it😂
"Maybe the American soldiers should step in before this happens..."
Funny thing about America and World War II and us not doing something until we were personally affected, doing the minimal amount with the most fallout (pun intended) then audaciously taking all the credit.
Glad you like it
I did in theaters...
Back in the day
The first is always the best film...
The new actor and new style of Hellboy was not my cup of tea...
But that actor was good in The Equalizer ...
Would you style this movie like Van Hensley....
Imo, the 2 guillermo del torro hellboy films outshine the david harbour one by a landslide, they had so much more heart and are practical effects marvels
They need to make the comic books into a animated TV series
Well, there are two animated movies, voiced by the same cast. . And they are pretty dope and even closer to the source material, especially "Blood and Iron".
I love ron perlman as hellboy instead of the other guy and selma blair and john hert is awesome in the movie🎥
Love Hellboy, awesome that you're watching it (don't watch the newest one tho).
Love this movie.
You missed a funny little end credit scene where the new director is still stuck in the catacombs asking on his comm if anybody is still there. 😄
Hellboy 2 is amazing even today!way better than fantasy movies today!😬you should watch that
33:50 His clothes are fireproof as well.
John Hurt was also Olivander the wandmaker in Harry Potter. Also Winston in 1984.
This man thought hellboy ate the cats lmao 🤣
This and the sequel are some of my favorite, watch anytime movies. I enjoy the story in Golden Army more, but the movie is such a great tie in with the opening story. Plus all the "hidden world" elements. So good. Cheers!
Ps. So glad to see Steph again!
Bit of trivia, the guy who played Rasputin also played the "barely human" lawyer for the vampires in Blade.
"Gonna be sore in the morning ...." Great line, really have to feel for HB right there.
So much to be said about Hellboy. The casting is great, practical effects and special effects are still excellent, directing and editing keep the pace moving, and the score hits all the marks. What you really need to do is here the special track and listen to the cast tell their stories about each scene and their take on what was happening. Everyone will tell you to react to the Golden Army, please do so. Not as tight a storyline but full of action, humor and fun.
Wish they made part 3
Hurt had a big role in Alien.
I'm surprised Jaby HADN'T seen Hellboy. I figured you'd be running to the theatre to see it. lol
31:09 he doesn’t have to mutilate himself to be good. They said he grinds his horns to fit in with everyone. When others grow horns on their heads then he would let his grow.
So, this is what the fish man did after Shape of Water…
Every time I watch this, which is often, I have to follow it up with Alien : Resurrection. Ron was great in that movie!
Yeah, wanting more from the ending, I get that, I was going to say it's because Marvel movies conditioned people to expect grandiosity whether the narrative warrants it or not, and so it feels a bit flatter, but even then, I wanted just three or so minutes more with the Conqueror Worm.
Still don't understand why this channel isn't called "Jaby's Angels" lol
Now you need to see HELL BOY 2 AND THE GOLDEN ARMY.
I really liked this movie. I think I liked the second one even more. Both just fun action movies, with good comedy, and a few feels. Good reaction, thanks for the channel.
I feel like I remember jaby talking bout watching this hell boy before. I could be wrong tho
I love this movie, but then again I love Lovecraft.
I LOVE the original (first) Hellboy. I used to watch it all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now watch part 2. It is amazing too.
I hope you guys are having a good day me it comes and goes . And I just love it you pretty much pay all the bills and they make some thing for them and don't even tell you isn't that sow nice.
Jaby: “he’s pure of heart. He’s probably a jerk in real life!”
Be careful Jaby, that’s Kane from Alien. He will pop an alien out at you
I dont know why wb didn't let gdt make a third Hellboy movie. The first two were pretty successful at the box office and had a very large fan following.
The fans really liked this one and part two they were super excited when they heard there was going to be a new one and then the 2019 Hellboy came out and everybody was pissed because they changed everything the fans wanted a part 3 not a remake so it bombed and nobody wanted another one
The Golden Army is amazing, you guys should see it... Del Toro makes amazing, beautiful practical movies....
Ron Perlman plays the same character in pretty much every role he plays..but it works😊
The tentacles coming through shows up again in the first season of What If
i never actually looked, but im pretty sure the same actors voiced the animated movies which were
fucking DOPE!!!
