So whatever, situation an innocent a black man finds himself in. He has to think twice before doing anything. I saw a meme that says this: "if the police did nothing wrong people would trust them . Sadly, the trend of fatal police shootings in the United States seems to only be increasing, with a total 506 civilians having been shot, 105 of whom were B, as of June 30, 2020. In 2018, there were 996 fatal police shootings, and in 2019 this figure increased to 1,004. Additionally, the rate of fatal police shootings among BA was much higher than that for any other ethnicity, standing at 31 fatal shootings per million of the population as of June 2020. 🙄

I come from a country where black people are extremely rare sight. The first black person I saw in real life is from Zimbabwe. She became my classmate, my housemate and my bestie. I'm sure I have asked a ton of culturally inappropriate questions (including the one about the hair 🤭), but I think that she recognized that it was coming from a place of genuine curiosity due to lack of exposure. Of course she let me touch her hair, I would even comb it and straighten it for her. Shared the best time of my life with her and still get to talk occasionally now that we are at the oposite ends of the world. People just need to be more open hearted.

I live in Scotland which has a very low black population so it was a surprise when I was 7 years old to see a black girl my age playing outside my house. I went out and spoke to her and found out she was on holiday visiting family. We had a great 2 weeks that summer, playing in the sun, teaching each other songs and sharing sweets. That's not just great black stand up comedians, that's just great stand up comedy. A good comic has you laughing at them, but a great comic has you laughing at yourself (so I see what you are saying).
Plus comedy is actually healing for the body. You know when you laugh so hard that it hurts? Well it started hurting the second you began to laugh but your body pumped you with endorphins or whatever so you don't feel it until they run out (kind of like people who cut themselves for the same bodily reaction). So laughter really can be the best medicine (for certain types of pain that is). That is a universal human experience across cultures and continents but we are really lucky to have stand up comedy specifically as a means of experiencing that kind of healing power together; for that I feel grateful.

@Praxy M92 okay. The joke was about people who try to act and be like black people right, and that annoys black people. Now her point was that just by tanning your skin and following the stereotypical norms about black people you obviously cannot become like them just because you want to "FIT IN". Her point was if you're so ready to make the external efforts at the simple stuff might as well experience the problems that the people go through. Sickle cell anaemia is a genetic disorder which is common in Africa but in their case turned out to be a way to adapt because it's an advantage to people who show heterozygous condition in which case they don't contract diseases like malaria(which is a huge nuisance in tropical countries) easily because of the condition of their blood cells.

Little kids will come up to hug me but then start messing with my hair. (Funny!) When I get flyaways, they want to fix it. (No, sweetie, that gel is too heavy for my hair.)Or they will want to braid it. (No, darlings, braids do not look good on me!) It is just different. It feels different. It is also probably because they are middle schoolers. They monitor hair, nails, clothes. You cannot be hypersensitive and work in middle school.

I had a Black Boyfriend in Texas. In the 1970’s!!! He was the best guy I ever dated. We still talk to this day. And he still mentions how scared he was when my stepdad caught us in my bed. But he STILL speaks to me! That’s how cool a Black friend can be.

mrscary3105, not to worry. It's a bunch of bullshit that's overblown by race baiters in order to make it sound like black people getting shot by police for no reason is common. First of all, it isn't. Second, when it does there are plenty of behaviors on display that are consistent with increased risk of getting shot, such as resisting arrest. Seriously, if you never resist arrest and just cooperate with a police officer your chances of getting shot are next to zero.

Growing up I had a number of friends of color. I never knew anything about racism. I had never had a problem being friends with any race. It wasn't until high school that I learned people judged people on their color. I couldn't understand. My parents didn't teach me to judge others. We were raised to treat everyone the same. It was normal for my mother to have friends of different races over. She worked and was over all types of people and treated them all the same. My cousin learned this the hard way. She got hired where my mom worked. My mom was her boss. My cousin thought she could come in late, call in sick and slack over. She fired her ass. My cousin begged her not to. My mom told her to gather her things quickly or she would have someone throw her out. My mom didn't put up with shit and didn't care who you were. You could be the President. If you didn't do your job she would let you know what she thought. Everyone got the same treatment. You did a good job, she told you. She was good to those who worked under her. She would do anything for them. She wanted respect and she gave it. When she died I heard so many people say this she didn't care what race, sex or who you were she treated you fair and with respect and would do anything for anyone. They also said she was crazy as hell and spoke her mind. If management wanted to do something that was asinine she told them. Then she explained why. God, I miss her. Trump would have drove her insane. She would have been arrested trying to tell him what a damn idiot he is. I can hear her now. Are you out of your damn mind? Did you fall out a tree, roll down, then get run over by trucks for an hour and then get up get kicked in the head by a jackass repeatedl because no one is born as stupid as you are. It's time you left, you are going to drive me to lose my mind and I'm going to snap and beat you to death.
