Travel chaos: Gatwick slashes summer flights

- Gatwick will cut flights over the summer holidays while Heathrow's boss has told Sky News it will take 18 months for the industry to return to normal.
Gatwick said it was limiting its number of daily flights to 825 in July and 850 in August.
It said the decision would allow passengers to "experience a more reliable and better standard of service".
The airline industry laid off thousands of staff during the COVID pandemic and has been unable to return to capacity, leading to the cancellation of hundreds of flights

This is nothing compared to the coming food crisis.
Entirely on the airports and the airlines. In terms of management, They let too many members of staff go and then expect them to drop what they're doing to go back when the pay is not good and working conditions are unacceptable. At the same time they should not be putting on flights that they can't guarantee. Will go ahead because that's unfair on the passenger. Also hearing a lot that airlines are not following the rules when they're supposed to. It's outrageous. If the airline is responsible then they have to deliver an alternative or a refund. They don't want to help. Well that's not good enough All the management at the airport and the airlines want to do is take your money and then when something goes wrong it's not their fault when vast majority of the time is down to them and not the passenger. I'm going away in September and I'm really worried about my holiday not going ahead after I paid a lot of money for it. I'm going to shout at the management if that happens because they're responsible
Nothing has changed since Easter. That was the time to admit the worker shortage could not be fixed and hence fewer holiday flights would be available this summer.
Instead people have bought holidays they will not get.
This was all ENTIRELY predictable. After working as a manager at a major London airport for 20 years this was all guaranteed after airlines and airports sacked too many staff at the start of the pandemic. Orwellian Employers like BA jumped for joy as Covid started and within days got rid of huge numbers of their workforce hoping one day to hire back cheaper. Furlough was often not used so sacked employees got nothing. Now they are desperate for staff to go back? Unlikely. They are all reaping what they sowed now and decades of experience from the aviation sector has walked and has either found new jobs and are being treated better, or, have no intention of going back after being so let down in our hour of need. No matter what the government does now this summer will be a disaster as training and vetting periods now exceed the summer peak so the perfect storm is already brewing. Caused by profiteering not a pandemic!

Love having multi millionaires tell me how its not their fault. Slie News' disinformation FUD campaign on this issue is just poor journalism. The travel picture in the UK is no different from the rest of Europe. I am a pensioner and cant afford a holiday in the sun so call be selfish do.
Had 2 weeks holiday in Spain in May, flew from T2, tui altered our flight provider for the outgoing flight and the return flight, 90 minutes from arrival at the airport to getting in the airport lounge. No problems at Malaga on the way back, hope it's the same in September.

We get to the point where the Ryan air is the best airline.! ( Based on my last 3 months experience). Wizzair delayed easy jet delayed cancelled. Ryanair was in time. Came back from Europe after 2 hours delay huge line at passport check . M1 closed at 10 o'clock night, so I could not go by car. Train late however price is for 3 stops 10 times more than abroad I went from airport to central in 15 minutes. Welcome to England!
I won the lottery last night and was hoping for a nice holiday ,sadly after paying this month's gas and electric bill and this weeks food shop and filling my car up in have f*** all left 🙃

I flew from Heathrow a few days ago, flying with Qatar. I was flying with my wife and 4 month year old baby, worst experience of our lives.

GH Sense some people don't want to stay in the UK. I don't like UK destinations and I want to go on a summer holiday. Everybody else should be given that right to do so. It's not our fault that the airlines are giving out flights that they can't guarantee. It's their fault. They've got staff shortages
