From junk to gorgeous! Now you have a nice sturdy lamp that will give you light during a black out. It's so much more solid than the Dietz oil lamp that I bought, filled with bug repellent tiki torch oil and brought to a camping trip last Summer. I love my modern made Dietz but this beauty makes it look like a hunk of junk. Next time I run into a lamp like this at an antique show or estate sale, I'm getting it. Thanks for showing me how to restore a lamp like this. They are still widely available at estate sales and flea markets but one day they won't be. They will end up in the trash unless we buy them and restore them.
Hi. Thank you very much for taking the time to write for me. I’m glad you like this lamp. I like it too. I still use it in my balcony at nights. I’m using a Kerosene burning fuel. It’s good but on those windy days, the smell of the burner can get me dizzy sometimes. But overall it’s very good. Antique and vintage items can give you a good vibe. As if you own a piece of history. I bought mine at a flea market. You should check them out. Or the “Offerup” app. Good luck with your search and thanks once again for watching and complementing my video. Appreciate it.
@@VintageCraftsmanTools If you don't like the smell of kerosene, that is no problem because your lamp will burn not just kerosene but Tiki torch oil, paraffin oil (also called lamp oil) even cooking oil. Kerosene will go bad in ten years but paraffin oil will never go bad and it just smells like candles. If more people knew that, more people would get these lamps. They are really very handy during camping trips (car camping). They are the best thing to have during a power outage. I read somewhere that more fuel is burned in these lamps that is burned by all of the aircraft in the world. I got a friend from India who grew up with these lamps. For underdeveloped countries or countries going through a collapse, these are the thing to have. Enjoy.
@@VintageCraftsmanTools yes, it's one that is best in open air. Mariners would have had plenty of other odors on ship to cover up the smell of the lamp.☠🦈🐡🐠🐟🐬🐋🐳
I seriously just found one of these in a bush on a hike. Had been there for a LONG time. Only missing one brass screw up top for a glass protector rod. Only thing is, Im going to clean it up, maybe not restore it. Hell, i might even canibalize it so it fits over my own home made oil lamp base.
Very nice. Now that’s what I call a great find. They are very old. I still use mine from time to time. If you’re going to use it, just make sure the bottom part doesn’t have any hole in it. But honestly it is a great decorative item as well. I wish I get to find something old like the way you did. Have fun. Thank you for sharing your experience and also watching. Cheers 🍻
@VintageCraftsmanTools I cleaned it up last night and it turned out great. I may take a very short video and upload the link and share it here if you're interested
Oh nice. I like that you went for it right away. Please share and do make a video. It’s like passing and sharing glimpses of history. Please share the link with me too. Thank you.
I haven’t checked it during a storm but I used it on a rainy day once out of curiosity and amazingly it worked just fine. But you can smell the fuel though. Thanks for watching

Holla Roberto. muchas gracias. And greetings to you from California my friend. Im glad that you liked my video. I didn’t expect people to like it as much as I did. But I see that I was wrong. Thank you for subscribing by the way. I appreciate it.

@@paulorth2251 Now that you mentioned the other odors, I can see why this wouldn’t have been a big deal for them. Thank you.

Thank you. I checked it. Looks very nice and clean.
Nice to see a restoration from someone not working out a shed full of $100k in power tools.
Thank you Glenn for watching this video and commenting. I appreciate it.
interesting fresnel lens on that lamp, it would be interesting to see that work outside during a storm...
