My beloved of 51 years is now singing this her favourite hymn. We professed our marriage vows on the Ist of May and she's i heaven now eight years . Thank the Lord for our Catholic Faith. There is nothing more beautiful and enduring. The title so befitting Queen of the May . South Africa Cape Town.
I am 65 years old. In first through 8th grade I went to school at St. Lucy's in the Bronx. Back then in May my school would have such a beautiful May Crowning in the beautiful grotto that Church had. I so miss it. I am writing Mother Mary a letter. Our Church is putting up a Mother Mary statchue, our pastor is going to put then under the statchu. What a wonderful thing to do

We sang this Hymn every day in May at Garnethill Convent (Glasgow) and wore blue ribbons with a Medal of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Beautiful Hymn and lovely memories.

My earthly mother Sara raised me to pray the Rosery nightly. She also nudged me to pray and place a crown of flowers on our statue of Mary nightly in May. I have a prayer list of names who have asked me to pray for them or a loved one. I have moved it to my phone as it is lighted and easier on my 76 year old eyes. Once on my list....the name remains. I feel comfort doing this little act. Once someone dies I place a "D" after their name. I BELIEVE in the POWER of PRAYER!
First heard this lovely hymn to the Blessed Virgin as a first grader when I participated with all the other students in the crowning ceremony in May 1959 at Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Staten Island, NY. This song brought me forever closer to the Blessed Mother of Jesus.

I remember this so well and was just speaking of May 1st the other day and recall the fresh garden and yard flowers we made bouquets and had a procession at Mass that morning and all the children bought the bouquets up and laid them on the Alter. We also had a May Pole Dance with colorful pastel colors and as we danced around the May Pole it wrapped the bright pastel ribbons all around the May Pole and for sure then Spring was upon us! Thank you for this...........a great memory! We also made May baskets of flowers and candy and put them on the neighbor's porch, rang the bell, and then ran off so as to be sure they didn't see who left them a loving treat! Those were the days!

We sing everything from the old favorites to "Gentle woman, quiet light." I cherish the Marian piety of the last three popes, whom I've come to regard as "the Holy Spirit's hat trick" (if you'll pardon the hockey vernacular)! And Mr McDermott's rendition is awesome. And if a traditionalist and a progressive can both love this hymn, let's rejoice over that! Our Lady, consolatrix of the afflicted, refuge of sinners, Queen of Peace, pray for us!

In our school Loreto Convent Entally, India ( run by the Loreto Nuns) on the 1st of May, Mama Mary was 'Crowned' and we would sing this hymn. We still follow the custom in our church. Through out the month of May, we have the community Rosary.

I play this to my friend twice a week as she loves it. We sang it at school back in the 50's and 60's. Now in a home and this brings her comfort.

In our school Loreto Convent Entally, India ( run by the Loreto Nuns) on the 1st of May, Mama Mary was 'Crowned' and we would sing this hymn. We still follow the custom in our church. Through out the month of May, we have the community Rosary.
