Books Of Blood are the best short story collections ever! I love In The Hills, The Cities and Raw Head Rex. My favourite King stories are The Jaunt and I am the Doorway.
Thank you for the reply Helen! In The Hills, The Cities is definitely one of his more creative entries, such attention to detail. The Jaunt is absolutely terrifying!
What a timely video - I just finished Stephen King’s short story, A Good Marriage. I loved it!!! I find his novels too long winded but this short story was PERFECT. I need to read that Poe short story! I am guilty of overlooking him.
The man from the south is exactly the story shown in the movie Four Rooms (the end that is directed by Quentin Tarantino). I never realized that it was a short story first! I have a love/hate relationship with short stories....because as you said, it is difficult to pull off right, and there are SO many books of shorts out there. One of my favorites I have read in the last few years, was Beneath a Pale sky by Philip Francassi. Great compilation here!
Than you for watching! I enjoy Tarantino movies so will have to check out Four rooms. I agree on the hit or miss aspect of short stories, some are brilliant while others just don't hit the mark.
All of these look so good! I loved your explanation of short stories, and how skilled one must be to successfully write a short story. I had never thought of it that way!
What an incredible list!!!! Is there no limit to your skills as a booktuber / book reviewer? Very few give screen time to short stories. That is so sad. I totally agree with you that writing a story in under 1,000 words or under 3,000 words, as we writers are required to do for magazine submissions, is not an easy task. As my time is often very limited, I love reading (and writing) short stories! Thank you for this awesome video!!!!
I definitely enjoyed this video. I love short stories. The Deathbird by Harlan Ellison. The Imago Sequence by Laird Barron. White Chapel and Subway Turnstile both by Douglas Clegg. Altar by Philip Fracassi. Purse by Chesya Burke. The Wedding Present by Neil Gaiman. Those are some of my favorite short stories but there are many others.
@@michaelbooker6142 I have read Smoke and Mirrors cover to cover. Excellent collection of stories. It has been a while so I,ll check the introduction again for the story.
Terrific video, Cliff! 😊 I love Neil Gaiman, but I haven’t read any of his short stories. I absolutely love Edgar Allan Poe. The Pit and the Pendulum is so good. Clowns are CREEPY! 🤡 “Survivor Type” is one I want to read. King says it”s one of his favorites. I need to revisit Barker’s Books of Blood. Although I have read a lot of King’s work, I have read very few of his short stories. I love many of Joe Hill’s short stories. I have read his two short story collections. So many favorites, including “Black Phone” which was made into a pretty decent movie starring Ethan Hawke. This is in his 20th Century Ghosts collection. Also, he and his father teamed up and wrote “Throttle” and “In the Tall Grass” and both were pretty good.
Thank you so much Kat. I've read pretty much all of King's short stories and most of them are really good, I think i;ll do a top 20 soon. I'll be sure to check out Joe Hill's shorts.
Thanks for the recommendations. I have read some but not all. I would recommend to you ‘How Grim Was My Valley’ by John Llewellyn Probert. Several of his short stories repackaged around a central character.

Thank you! I really need to read more stories by Poe.
Loved this! I really love reading short stories. I have got to get into Clive Barker short stories! I don’t why I keep procrastinating on that.
Thank you! Books of Blood are awesome!

@@CliffsDarkGems I was listening to you describe that story and I’m like “waaaait a second. This sounds familiar!”
Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Tales From The Crypt both adapt The Man From The South into an episode.
@@michaelbooker6142 Interesting! I'll have to check that out!

Thank you for the reply! Short stories are also great when you don't have the time or energy to tackle a huge novel.

Thanks for watching Michael, and thanks for the recommendations. I love Neil Gaiman, so will look out for The Wedding Present.
Did you read the introduction for Smoke and Mirrors? You'll find it there. He hides short stories in his introductions

It is an excellent collection.

Twilight At The Towers is my favorite Clive Barker short story!
Thank you so much for watching! That is the " Werewolf" story, am I correct? There are so many I loved, but this was a bit of a miss for me.

Hope you don’t mind Cliff but I’m going to steal this list for a bit of a TBR injection
Absolutely go for it 😀 I would love to see that video!
