I'm a gift Scrooge. I hate the disappointed looks when I've bought something that will not be used. Years ago I reverted to alternating between buying my family socks or gloves. These I fill with cash in different denominations depending on the age of the recipient. Children under 12 get gifts, usually a hand knit hat, socks or toy, and a book. I also stopped buying gift wrap years ago, and used my substantial quilt fabric stash to make drawstring bags in different sizes. Gifts are put in these, which I gather up after gift opening and save for next year. Once a year I get to see and enjoy those beautiful fabrics that never made it into a quilt. Thanks for another enjoyable episode full of inspiration.

Thanks for all the fun ideas, Linda! I have some holiday fabric that would work for some gift bags.

Thank you for an as always so inspirering episode! I love those berets and I think I have to knit a couple of those for myself. :) Here in Sweden we had the first snow this week and it is really beautiful. The days up here in the north is very short now so I am glad that I am self employed so that I can decide how to use my time in the best way. I go outside to enjoy the sun and daylight... and then work when it is dark again. But I must say that I appreciate all months of the year. November is calm and quiet... it is very peaceful I think and it is so cosy to go inside after a long walk and just sit down in the sofa, have a nice cup of coffee and knit for a bit - and enjoy your podcast :) And yes I knit on some Christmas gifts too, just minor things like mittens, scarfs and socks and I only knit for the ones closest to me

I always enjoy your podcast! You look so cute in your hats, I just might have to knit one or two of them.

What a great episode! I am keeping my gift knitting to our first grandson. Toddler hats and mittens that I'll take when we visit at Christmas. I just wanted to let you know you look stunning in the berets you showed.

Thank you for Miss Evil! I'm making my way through her series. I've been watching your podcast since the beginning, but this is my first time joining the conversation. I remember your first episode thinking you would fit perfectly in my book group (which has been going for over 30 years). But I live in the Finger Lakes region of New York, so it's a bit far. I've been on a similar yarn journey as you (much thanks to Corinne of The Woolly Thistle, whose podcast I started listening to back when it was audio). So much beautiful farm yarn to choose from these days. As for gift knits, I don't. The holidays are stressful enough without that kind of pressure. Greatly enjoy your podcast and appreciate you taking the time to share with us 😊

I made the Asa Tricosa Jadeite cardigan with Milo over a year ago and have had no problems with felting on this sweater. I absolutely love this cardigan and as I live in Phoenix it is the perfect weight for a bit of warmth when needed. Thanks for such a lovely podcast, I have watched all your episodes.

I live your matchy matchy! You have just enough distinction in looks that updates older concepts of the traditional matching ensembles. Another lovely podcast. Thank you.

Hi Kathy, your sweater fix turned out great! The purl idea was brilliant. If you want to try cutting your yarn on a smaller scale. Try a cut in heel sock. Now that I have done it a few times. Sweater surgery is something I would try with no worries. Well it would be scary bout I would try lol

Thanks, Teresa! I've always meant to try an after thought heel. I definitely want to have this skill in my toolbox.

I've been knitting a rib cuffs while watching your podcast and I enjoyed it a great deal.
So, let me say a few thing. I love your granddaughters hat. So cute! The beret are a great accessory to your wear. Maybe, the leftovers combine them together to make hats for your granddaughter and she'll have a little something from you all the time.
Also, I think the sweater that your wearing is a perfect length for you but I thought what a brilliant idea that you made on the collar other sweater.
I'm just finishing the Montreal Sweater for my son and that has been an on going project because he doesn't live at home anymore. Anyway, I'm making for all the young ladies in the family the Sophie Scarf because I made them hats last year and so I had left over yarn from the hats. Thank you for sharing

I usually knit one family member a sweater each year. I am also a weaver and weave quick cute scarves, placemats, and kitchen towels for the remaining family. This year we are drawing names and buying for just that one person outside our immediate house. Within our house, we will buy something small for our grown kids.

You could do fingerless mitts or wrist warmers out of the leftover yarn to match your tam.

Thank you Kathy for another great episode (though I think of these as virtual “visits”). I truly enjoy hearing about your knitting, family and life in the Northwest. Your Lento sweater looks beautiful on you - smart idea to add sleeve length. I’m in a hat mood but not for anyone in particular. My family has many knit hats but sometime surprise me by asking for a finished hat. The extra hats are given away and this makes me feel good. I often marl for hats or scrap knit them. Some turn out better than others 😊. Thanks for the book recommendation. I recently read Uprooted by Page Dickey and highly recommend especially since you like to garden. She has an interesting story to tell and I admire her attitude (her former house and extensive gardens were razed by new owners). I’ll refer to this book next year as I add plants to my yard.

I think you will find DK socks go so much faster. I also love adding mohair to my socks. They are so cozy and warm and also wear better! I only have two grandchildren so they always get Christmas and birthday knits. This year they get a sweater and I’m knitting each of them the Little Rabbit Bag by Jooles Hill.

Hi Kathy, When I ball my yarn and then start to use it, I wind the yarn a couple of times around the label, so I always know what my yarn is. Hope you find this tip useful. If it’s a gift knit, I write who and what the gift was and to whom I have given the gift to. It’s a great idea, because if it’s a sock or hat what ever, you still have a bit of yarn to darn any damage done to the gift.

I do that with my labels too, but towards the end of the skein sometimes the label and yarn part company! I'd like to get more organized in saving some of the yarn for mending later. And I'm particularly sloppy in keeping track of my gift knits. Last year I realized that I had knit cowls for my daughter in similar colorways for three years in a row. We had a good laugh over that!

hi, kathy - i've been wearing leggings for decades and probably always will wear them. i've been thinking lately about a knitted skirt to go over them, too. little big knits has a cute skirt. i've seen sweaters lengthened, with a loosely form-fitting fit, that look really nice. stine johansen, churchmouse yarns, angel falls skirt by drops, meillakotona in finland, etc. there are even pleated skirts. let us know if you find one - knitted or sewn. i knit socks (only) for anyone and everyone, but not at christmas - just through the year. thanks for showing us the berets - they really suit you. keep enjoying the sunny days ☀️.

Regarding your after pilates thoughs...did you see the skirt pattern by the one owner of Espace tricot. It is in color work. If i am not mistaken, it is free. And i saw that it could be knit in a shorter version...and as from dk weight, colorwork could be omitted and the skirt could be marled...😊😉

Oh, I do love that pattern! I love it as it is, but would need a more restrained color palette.
