Thanks for this memory of Miss Miller. She reminds me of my Mother, another great TEXAS gal..always dressed to the nines..even at her current age of 91...92 in June, God willing. I met Miss Miller when she was touring in Sugar Babies. She signed some lobby cards from Kiss Me Kate. What a great gal. I'm happy that she defends LB Mayer here.
***** Hey Luke, Sorry for the confusion..I was referring to my Mom who will be 92 in June. I know that we lost Miss Miller years ago. She's buried next to her daughter.
Thanks- look forward to seeing it- didnt know all these gems excisted- I appricate you posting all these gems- any more Judy Garland? Saw a clip of her at Roddys beach party
@dannybex My guess is that she wanted to be seen as a leading lady, and not a child star. It would have been harder to make the transition if she'd been a 13-year-old prodigy star, instead of a potential lead. In another interview on youtube, she freely admits her age, and also says that at the time when she was scouted, she was working in a nightclub as an "18-year-old," so she probably needed to keep up the ruse for that reason, as well.
I LOVE Ann Miller, think she was by far the most talented female dancer, but have never understood her claim that she "had to lie" about her age in order to get hired. Here she says it's because "they were not hiring minors at that time." What about Virginia Weilder, who was hired for "Mother Carey's Chickens", an RKO film, in 1938, when she was 12? Just doesn't make any sense, except unless she was trying to hide her true age like so many stars.
I could listen to her all day
Thanks for tuning in- and your kind comments. She was great to the end- did you see David Lynch's Mullholland Drive with Naomi Watts?
What a magnificent woman: elegant, articulate and gorgeous. She is absolutely wonderful

Not only that she needed to work because she was supporting her mother financially, and she did until her mother's death.
