    Even in fantasy there is mechs.
    ...What? You gonna tell me that there is no Artificer, Wizard or Druid that never thought of building a golem and then pilot it from inside? Give it a big fuck-off sword or a siege weapon like a ballista and you have a mech.

    "Go to Church" or better yet, let the Church come to You!
    Well the Veteran Crews getting crushed is apparently Charlie's fault as well. Aliens learnt not just the location but how Jaegers work and it allowed them to tailor their weapons to fight them.

    I actually liked the begining of the movie with Becket, the thing of him piloting the Jaeger by himself after his brother gets eaten while having all his brothers feelings and thoughts from when he was being devoured stuck in his mind because their minds were still linked and then the sudden nothingness was very interesting.
    Mako being able to feel it too when Becket drifts with her was a great moment

    I may not like Legend of Korra, but I can at least agree that it gets a bit too much hate. It has a lot of good ideas, it just doesn't execute them all particularly well in my eyes. Most of Book 2 was a mistake, especially that finale...

    Pacific Rim was so good that it was one of the few movies I watched twice in theaters. Both its story and characters may not be all that deep or unique compared to past mecha anime, but what it does have is heart and soul. I could tell because being a mecha fan myself, I'm smiling every time I watch it. It is a shame that Del Toro had to cut out stuff that could have made the other mechas and their pilots a bit more interesting, but at the end of the day, the movie was still a ton of fun.

  • @EnnardisThou
    @EnnardisThou 3 дні тому +7

    As someone who watched Pacific Rim: The Black when it aired on Netflix for two seasons, it's a great watch. Enjoyable but simple plot that isn't nonsensical., likeable and decently well written characters characters, takes concepts from the sequel-that-shall-not-be-named and properly uses them, and introduces new concepts I think were a bit underutilized. Ending has a bit of an enigma, since I've seen thought out theories that question the truth of how real it is. Won't spoil anything, but the cast gets into a REAL dire situation, and something a few episodes prior may make the audience wonder if the seen can be believed.

      Different dirrector, and one that obviously didn't have the same love of mecha anime that Del Toro had. If they have any sense, they will make sure he directs any future ones they try.

    • @Kaiju-bm4ts
      @Kaiju-bm4ts 2 дні тому

      @@seki108 bro Steven had a love for mecha anime, he just didn't make his film in the same way del Toro did his own. Del Toro doesn't need to be attached to every project. They just need the right people in charge. It's like saying Honda needs to direct every godzilla film cause he was the first director

    • @seki108
      @seki108 2 дні тому

      @@Kaiju-bm4ts Genuinely have no idea about Steven since I haven't seen much else like interviews about his inspiration or the like, which Del Toro had and it was passed around the mecha communities.
      My last sentence was more about the common consensus about the second movie compared to the first, since it doesn't really matter the director as long as the end product is good. Just del Toro would likely be the more sure shot for the future planned move to be good, but it's not like he's the ONLY one who could make it work..

    Granted considering how the general vibe of the Earth Empire vs everyone else kind of gave off another bit of that World War 2 asthetic it would make sense that the Earth Empire would have just as many crazy ideas as the Nazis but instead of being unable to accomplishing the realization of those ideas they would be able to bring them to life. Not to mention that the mech was able to move because of metal bending which is actually quite clever for that setting. Not to mention Season 1 literally introduced Mecha Tanks, I think we are passed the point of complaining for the technological advancement of this world. Considering the Fire Nation invented tanks, Zeppelins (at least through re-engineering and improving the original design), and battlecruisers, while everyone else was still using swords, shields, sailboats, and warbeasts.

    The kaiju attacks started in 2013. So it was supposed to be present day and an AU. So it getting really bad too soon isn’t really that far fetched in a setting where it’s been going on for nearly a decade

  • @cik105
    @cik105 2 дні тому

    I can never forgive this movie for basically saying "Bee Tee Dubs, Dinosaurs. Lol. Anyway..." And then never revisiting that sentence. Apparently there's some sort of novelisation definitively says they're kaiju prototypes, but as a movie goer you can interpret what was said as "They extincted the big, tall, fleshy proto-jaegars" like, wtf is going on, those are TWO, VERY, different, VERY, important implications for what is less than a second of dialogue.
    I know this is some nerd shit to get hung up on, but Del Toro knew going in that we nerds were going to be his core audience. Heck, he's supposed to be one of us.
