Turkish is read as written. No letters differ wherever it is in the word, the letters always sound the same. So: Korkut is read like kor (like core) kut (cout). Aselsan is like ah-sell-sahn.
Turkey has been and is being blackmailed by his “nato partners” in every case of an interest collision with military ambargos!!! So the Turks are desperately trying to build their own weapons to overcome those blackmails. So it is a vital point for the Turkish state to have the best weapon systems possible to become self sustainable and fully indipendent.
True but Turkey doesn't always play nice with other NATO countries making bellicose statements.( Greece even America) In addition it has a "hate on " for Israel. I respect Turkey's ingenuity to overcome and adapt however Turkey is not a reliable NATO partner ideologically .

Been following you for ages matt. First time ibever commented, thanks for all the outsanding content, keep up the great work. Always informative and interesting.
Hi Matsimus, What an impressive Dual Auto-Cannon Mobile V-SHORAD Vehicle this is. A combination of heavy firepower using smart programmable ammunition combined with some of the latest RF and Electro-Optical Sensors available on the today’s market. As you absolutely and rightly suggested in a previous video a while back, there is very much a renaissance of Conventional Rapid-Fire Gun based Anti-Aircraft Artillery, brought about through the advancement of Smart Programmable Ammunition Technology combined with massively enhanced Sensors and Target Acquisition. With the new emerging pacing threat driving this is being Drone Warfare in all of its forms, from small Quad-Copters armed with small Top-Attack type munitions through Medium Altitude Long Endurance ISTAR UAVs like MQ-9B Reaper etc. Anyway, another great video, as you are on a roll at the moment, which is great to view. Cheers.
Looks like they are utilizing the M-113 as a basis for this system. If you look at it head-on you can tell it is not a native design due to the amount of additional, modern armour applique attached to the sides of the base vehicle. Strip it down to the chassis/body, add integrated engine & control systems, add modern armor and crew protection, and, of course, add fire control and targeting computers and you've got yourself a new, effective AAA System.
Türkiye is one of the countries which produces this vehicle under licence. And yes, it's based on the M113 chassis like the Bradley IFV does. Finally it's not the base what is used, it's the turret and tech inside it.
FNSS began in 1988 as a joint-venture between FMC and Nurol Makina, then FMC merged with Harsco to become United Defense in 1995, then became BAE Systems INC after being acquired by BAE Systems PLC in 2005. Nurol Makina just bought out BAE's 49% share in 2024 to become sole owners of the company.
No, it is an ACV-30 made by the firm FNSS. It may look like an M113 on video but if you see it in person there’s no mistaking it for a 113. The ACV-30 is much larger with a higher gross weight and has modern armor and systems. It is heavily influenced by the AIFV (an M113 derivative) but is an indigenous design.
as you've noted, Korkut is amphibious. Reason they've used an enlarged ACV chassis in the first place was the amphibious requirement of the program. Command wanted their SPAAGs to be amphibious to be able to follow armoured columns on river crossings, which at the time and still is made up of other ACVs. 6kmh amphib speed is pretty standard for this kind of vehicle.
hey Matt love the video and they seem to have built a fine AAAD system. The AAAD system that most intrigues me is the Sgt. York, though not for the reason you probably think. I am intrigued with it because I wonder how with so much support did it fail so badly. Please keep up the great work.
Keep doing the great job as you have and, your numbers cannot but improve as more folks discover your product. However biased I may be though as far as can be determined, both system evaluations and commentary are spot on, balanced and light hearted. Your personable take on things is credible and engaging, good on you. Be well and stay safe lad
Favorite air defense vehicle? M-16 MGMC. WW2 American half track with a quad M-2 .50 caliber machine guns, side panels fold down to give 360° traverse with a fairly low minimum angle of fire. Plus The Chieftan says he almost popped a wheelie in one by accident, in almost perfect conditions to do so admittedly.
I second the Gepard choice. What I do not understand about this System is why you would want to put the two barrels so close together if you goal is to fill the sky with metal stuff.
Because two separate barrel means the system may have more then two different countermeasure chances at the same time. Don't forget; Korkut has automatic ammunition selection system for each barrel.
the RoF is mediocre, at 1100-1200 - the russian counterpart, while only 30mm, fire more than twice faster (RoF 2500). So, you do not really "fill the sky with metal stuff." with these twin 35mm.
@@mirandela777ROF is not necessary when you have programmable air burst ammunition that can take targets with a short burst. Systems like Pantsir are not accurate at all. They were mopped up by Turkish TB2s in Libya and Syria, israeli missiles , and GMLRS in Ukraine because of their lack of accuracy and tech
hi mate, as always its a delight to hear from a gunner. this video reminds me of the German anti aircraft system Manti & Rheinmetall Air Defence Ahead. very capable system. with the proliferation of drone warfare, it looks like low to medium altitude AAA gun systems will continue to exist along with the missile platforms. the ballistic rounds might become more "smart" with timed and programed fuses as the technology improves and the costs come down. the gun systems will remain a viable cost effective and area denial weapons compared to missiles. in certain situations these gun platforms can also be used against lightly armored vehicles and troops for self protection whereas a SAM system wont be able to provide such dual role.
Matt consider this! A goalkeeper (Phalanx if we must but the ground defence version with timed fuses ) mounted to a warrior towing a HMT which has been modified for ammo stowage) come on matt you can see it. The warrior FV518 Air defence system
Well, the system looks very attractive as point defense for both armoured formations and air stations. It is unlikely to be cheap. The point is that to defend against airial targets you need to put a lot of shells in the air in the shortest possible time frame. With the twin Oerlikon that has lots of ammo types. What I dislike about the Gepard is, that it is an old system and modern radars is likely to be cheaper and more robust. knowing the turks: The high profile is unlikely to be an issue, as they will probably in prepared positions be protected by a large boulder of granit, that will give even nuclear charges a problem. But the hight means that the guns can elevate quite high. The system is unlikely to be overengineered.
Personally, my favorite M-SHORAD/SPAA is the Stryker M-SHORAD. The fact that it has a 30mm chain gun along with a wide variety of missiles (not just limited to MANPADS) makes it a highly versatile system. Really hope the U.S. Army adds the Israeli Lite Beam weapon system to it though. Adding a laser just ups the ante XD
You may want to look at the Madis USMC and M-SHORAD Army in the future. They will have 30mm guns and will be, if they haven't already upgraded from 30mm proximity fuse round to programable round. Being able to cross a stream or canal is important for short range systems as they will want to stay close to troops and armor to protect them from drones. I think the 30mm guns have an effective range between 2-2.5km, less than the 35mm guns, but the MADIS and M-SHORAD will also have Stingers to deal with large at range threats.
Stinger are crap, very short range, not very fast, and crappy altitude. Is almost 60 years old tech ! (1967 design ! ). Max alt to engage air targets is a pathetic 3800m, and max range only 7,8km. They are slow and most of the targets (except helicopters) will just stay high and fast. And the production rate for Stinger missiles is also miserable - some 350-360/month. Stinger is an obsolete missile.
@@mirandela777 Nah. The first variant was A, the current is K. Lots of upgrades in 60 years. Mach 2.4 is not bad against things going less that Mach 1 and has an effective range 8km and alt of 3.8km. Longer effective range than any 30 or 35mm gun. Good enough for small to medium size drones. An initial contract for a new Stinger Replacement for 8000 new missiles is expected in 2026. - Stinger is not meant to replace Patriot or NASAMS. Current production of the legacy design is only 60 per month. I don't think any Russian pilots or drone operator shot down in UA will say it is obsolete.
While I generally appreciate videos like this I find the looping of their marketing video in the background really distracting because it rarely lines up being directly related to anything being said in the moment
cranking out quite a few, matsimus :) good on ya. fellow... canuck.... you british convert ;) i live maybe 10 hours from where you are. i live in rural sask.
I really like the M163 Vulcan ADS as well as the Soviet Shilka, both are electronically obsolete but would be interesting if somone rebuilds them using modern radar/electronic components.
Gemiler için olanından bahsetmemeniz eksik olmuş. Yeni inşa edilen savaş gemilerinde Phalanx CIWS yerine Korkut'un deniz versiyonu "Gökdeniz"" kullanılıyor artık. Videoya eklemelisiniz.
i wonder if some work can be done to make some conversion packages so these can be compatible with vehicles that is already able to mount the Cockerill modular turrets, being able to convert light/medium tanks into dedicated mobile AA relatively quickly would probably be a great asset for countries like ASEAN members, australia, and india
low flying targets, like drones, or attack helicopters, will be hidden from radar until quite close. humans see maybe 5 of 6km on flat terrain, due to the curvature of the earth. that radar is higher up than a person and drones/attack helicopters are higher up than the ground. but with any terrain features blocking, the radar range is about what you'd expect if the targets were flying low or peaking over terrain features. sure, clear skies and high ground? would be farther, but even as an operator of the korkut, you may take cover behind an embankment if you have high ground and enemies would be piloting using terrain features to stay hidden.
You are thinking too isolated. The Turks are one of handful of militaries in NATO that have effectively demonstrated th capability to effectively and correctly employ combined arms warfare. Everything has sting and weak points. Its doctrine that brings them all together into one picture.
Thats because it is mate. It's been upgraded thought. They got too many at hand and in this instance it works well. Korkut is on another plattforms as well. See "Gurz"
Looks to me like a M113 with a Skyranger turret... but if so, I don't understand why they are using two cannon barrels instead of one, that remembers me at Russian Terminatior and its difficulties or the old Swiss Oerlikon original. Being in need of having an extra accompanied Radar carrying vehicle remembers me on Rheinmetalls Skynex (but that is accompanied by more Mk.3 cannon per system) where IRIS-T and Patriot Systems could be attached to. To me the Skyranger turret looks somehow smaller and therefor more agile.
Dig further and you will see more.... For exmpl : 31 warShips to be built. Among them 1 carrier, 6 Frigates, 2 Destroyers, 4 Subs . Winter is comming and Türkiye is preparing.

Hi Matt, the korkut is really effective toy and we love it.
Turkish is read as written. No letters differ wherever it is in the word, the letters always sound the same. So:
Korkut is read like kor (like core) kut (cout).
I respect Turkey's ingenuity to overcome and adapt however Turkey is not a reliable NATO partner ideologically .

it's incredible to think that the aluminum box called m113 is still a useful plataform, talk a lot about simple but sturdy designs.
ehhhh less useful and more abundant.
Been following you for ages matt. First time ibever commented, thanks for all the outsanding content, keep up the great work. Always informative and interesting.
Thanks, will do!
Kaan fighter jet vid next please. Good suff Matsimus.
Matt is a landcrab, we got the FNSS PARS family, Altay, Kaplan, Ejder, Otokar Arma + Kobra.
Cheers.
WarThunder must have a Turkish Tech tree
very well prepared video, respect from Turkiye!
Hi, thank you for your nice videos. I just wanted to say that ASELSAN is pronounced this way: Asel - San
Thanks for the info!
Hey Matt are you thinking about making videos of new fighter jets any time soon? (TFX Kaan, KF21 Boramae)
That one, called Akinci is a larger vehicle. You can actually park an M-113 in Akinci cabin.
@@cemgokcanNeither this nor the Bradley are based on an M113 chassis.
Warthunder needs turkish tech tree asap.
as you've noted, Korkut is amphibious.
Gepard but now it have runner-up in Korkup 😊 But a quad Bofors configuration is an oldie-goodie close to my heart as well
Good choice!
hey Matt love the video and they seem to have built a fine AAAD system. The AAAD system that most intrigues me is the Sgt. York, though not for the reason you probably think. I am intrigued with it because I wonder how with so much support did it fail so badly.
Please keep up the great work.
I love the Tunguska, grew up with it from Battlefield 2, looks so awesome
Love the new format
The Oerlikon 35mm cannons seem to be ubiquitous for AAA. Interesting chassis, looks like it has the M2/M3 Bradley roadwheel layout.
Excellent video 📹
You see nations such as South Korea 🇰🇷, Iran 🇮🇷, Turkey 🇹🇷 and Taiwan 🇹🇼 making very good sophisticated defence equipment.

i do like a good m6 linebacker from the us, glade its coming back into focus as the M6A3 version
It's based on Oerlikon GDF 35mm
Because two separate barrel means the system may have more then two different countermeasure chances at the same time. Don't forget; Korkut has automatic ammunition selection system for each barrel.
the RoF is mediocre, at 1100-1200 - the russian counterpart, while only 30mm, fire more than twice faster (RoF 2500). So, you do not really "fill the sky with metal stuff." with these twin 35mm.
@@mirandela777When it's 35mm, you don't need to. Anything even hit by one bullet will guarantee go down or heavily damaged.
Perfect pronunciation
6:57 four thousand rounds? Are you sure? Not four hundred?
Malaysia should get this and mount it on the AV8 8x8 IFV chassis ..
This is possible. There are Korkut 8x8 ( Otokar arma 8x8)
My favorite is the ZSU-23-4 "Shilka".
As far as I know, there is no other vehicle like this in the world. "amphibious" , double barrel, smart proramnable ammunition, network capable
As a biased German, my all time favorite is the Gepard with the Skyranger 30 on Boxer in close second place.
Yippee another video 🤙🏻
close enough, welcome back coelian
While I generally appreciate videos like this I find the looping of their marketing video in the background really distracting because it rarely lines up being directly related to anything being said in the moment

i wonder if some work can be done to make some conversion packages so these can be compatible with vehicles that is already able to mount the Cockerill modular turrets, being able to convert light/medium tanks into dedicated mobile AA relatively quickly would probably be a great asset for countries like ASEAN members, australia, and india
low flying targets, like drones, or attack helicopters, will be hidden from radar until quite close. humans see maybe 5 of 6km on flat terrain, due to the curvature of the earth. that radar is higher up than a person and drones/attack helicopters are higher up than the ground. but with any terrain features blocking, the radar range is about what you'd expect if the targets were flying low or peaking over terrain features. sure, clear skies and high ground? would be farther, but even as an operator of the korkut, you may take cover behind an embankment if you have high ground and enemies would be piloting using terrain features to stay hidden.
Do one about Pasars 16.
My only issue with korkut is that it has same effective range with ATGMs meaning if it can shoot down drones. It can be shot at by ATGMs
They're not Frontline vehicles so if they're shot at with ATGMs then things have gone seriously wrong.
@@Jin-1337 They are suppose to shoot down kamikaze drones etc on the frontline.
You are thinking too isolated. The Turks are one of handful of militaries in NATO that have effectively demonstrated th capability to effectively and correctly employ combined arms warfare. Everything has sting and weak points. Its doctrine that brings them all together into one picture.

that is a lot mass high on the M113. you can tell when the drive stopped on the brakes and the nose almost touches the ground.
I'm with you - the Gepard
Looks to me like a M113 with a Skyranger turret... but if so, I don't understand why they are using two cannon barrels instead of one, that remembers me at Russian Terminatior and its difficulties or the old Swiss Oerlikon original. Being in need of having an extra accompanied Radar carrying vehicle remembers me on Rheinmetalls Skynex (but that is accompanied by more Mk.3 cannon per system) where IRIS-T and Patriot Systems could be attached to. To me the Skyranger turret looks somehow smaller and therefor more agile.
