- On our weekly Live Q and A (Wednesday 8pm UK Time) listener Simon Curd told us that he wanted to go Telecaster shopping. With the lockdown easing in the UK and shops opening James and Paul decided to drag Simon to GuitarGuitar in Epsom for a day of looking at Paul favorite guitars the Fender Telecaster. GuitarGuitar has tons of stock and not only Fender Telecasters. LSL makes some of the best instruments I've ever tried and in this video James and Paul try to convince Simon to spend his hard-earned cash! The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.
Thanks so much to GuitarGuitar for letting us loose in their fab store for the day. If you want to visit their website the link is below.

Let us know what your favourite was? Mine was most definitely the Pink LSL.
I just watched this and what happened. Did you buy the pink LSL? What did Simon buy?
Thanks for the feature guys!! That Pink Tbone is the Bee’s Knee’s!
Cheers, yeah it’s a nice guitar that one.
I love how the guy first asked Paul for advice on Teles, and then chose Ultra, which is clearly the one that Paul disliked the most. Great video still :)
Thank you very much Paul for mentioning my little plectrum company 👍. Glad your enjoying them. I’m also a Tele guy. My two go to guitars are my Fender American thinline Elite and my American Tele Acoustasonic .
Keep up the good work.🎸🎸🎸
Any time David.
I’ve got a HH MIM tele I got it damaged repaired it. It is now my only Guiter I do several sessions a week with it just as good as the more expensive fenders. Very versatile
I just got me a schecter fastback with Their filtertrons. A lot of features for the money
Love the guitar store shopping.
So glad to discover your fantastic channel. I went into GuitarGuitar in Camden last year looking for a budget Tele. I walked out with the same LSL {different colour} you both fell for. Spent three times as much as I intended. No regrets. I’ll never let her go.
Nice one yeah those LSL’s are great!
I like Japanese Fender teles. Well made and available in some really nice colours.
Agreed.
I'll 2nd that! Sensible, form and function in a price bracket that is appropriate for what a Telecaster actually should be. Super League Teles are really the antithesis of, imo. The MIJs are Premier league players workhorses too sans the gentrification of what should be a very straightforward simple guitar
Agreed. I have one and am in love.
The American professional series is the best bang for buck guitar you can get. Every guitar in the series is excellent!
I liked the white tele the best. Nice sound and bite.
LSL are amazing! I played a used T bone at a guitar shop and wished i got it.i went back to the same store a week later and it was gone.
I agree with Paul about the finished maple necks. I get the sandpaper out on mine. Tele's with humbuckers in the neck look unbalanced to me. Like when you are a kid and you see the tractor unit of a lorry without the trailer. It looks like it is going to topple over. I get the same with thing in my head about HB in the neck. Fine if it's got another in the bridge as it's balanced then!
Perfectly put.
That was excellent, although the commentary from 17:45 sounds like South Park's Kenny.
FWIW - pink LSL, then white Fender - tones were lovely. The rest were nice.
By the way, I got a Fender Japan FSR with P90 in the neck (with satin neck) last year in dauphine blue. A killer guitar. It beats my core PRS (don’t tell the PRS I said that)...
Nice one that sounds a killer guitar. I quite fancy a p90 guitar myself.
all things considered the red vintera would do for me :)
Q: what are your opinions on the SUHR Teles that have the noise cancelling circuit in them? (( Like Scott Henderson has in his Suhr Strats too ) ? I hate single coil mains hum but prefer the tone
Hi! My favourite was the white american professional2. I really want to have it, but I am sure someone bought it, but if not, tell me please!!!
For me the shell pink LSL is so beautiful!! You should totally check out SMP guitars!! Stu is a master at custom builds!! And he is half the price of fender custom shop!!
Hi Riley, SMP are based in the same village I live. I’ve contacted Stu many times and he never gets back to me. You’d think that a small company like that would appreciate some free content???
@@TheStudioRats I honestly didn’t know!! I know he has been going through some alterations and a back log but I don’t know why he hasn’t got back to you!!
@@TheStudioRats maybe he doesn’t think your channel is deserving. You’re so arrogant. Maybe take the hint that not everyone likes you as much as you think. You seem dislike others. You look down your nose at people. You’re a stuck up snob. You lost that Jamiroquai job A) bey) you’re a lot like Jay and B) they asked you to use their amp but noo you had to use yours. Be a bit kinder and you may be shocked how a bit of kindness gets you kindness back until then I’m going to behave like you. It’s not like able is it?
Pink LSL for the win for me!
Great episode. Paul and Danish Pete talk and play Telecai would be a great watch...just sayin’! 😁
I was under the weird impression you told neck pickup everytime you went to the bridge one.
inst the trouble about "tele style" non-fenders of course the issue of mostly high depreciation/poor resale value?
great video! played all of these...vintera weighs a ton...ultra is not a tele!...am. pro 2 is 2 modern....I owned 2 lsls great guitars but they lean bright and spanky.....for me Xotic and danocaster and fender cs are the way to go!
Ibanez Artist. Period. I’ve got a lot of Gibson’s and Fender’s. Ibanez Artist. Period. (Nice shoes Paul!)
The Vintera has a tone I really like...
An acquaintance of mine he was a good ten years older than I am so that makes him 64 now, a fabulous guitarist and a pioneer of sorts because he was one of those first few guys that came out playing "like" EVH or in that style when just about nobody could do it ... he once said at the counter of a music shop ..."A guitar is only as good as the amp you put it through." and he was right. So what amp is being used?
I do say in the video what amp is being used, and you can see it.
I wish they have picked squire classic vibe 50 along these guitars. I bet Paul would be super surprised!
They didn’t have one at the store.
@@TheStudioRats maybe idea for you guys to do the midrange next. I know in Andertons and GAK they have them.
For sure. I've heard CVs absolutely crap on far more expensive models tone-wise, the Strats if anything even more so than the Teles. Also the Jazzmaster.
Godin Stadium HT!
The white fender but change the pickguard
I am not a fan of unauthorized copies of brand name guitars. If you get a custom built caster from an independent luthier, that is permissible. LSL is not a small independent luthier. And they are directly copying a design without license. All of the other USA telecasters are my choice. I think the Ultra is the best of the lot, so that's why I got the Texas Tea colored Ultra Telecaster
Any thoughts from anyone on the player plus or player plus Nashville version? Or is the Vinterra the equivalent?
The "original" Player series has more traditional sounding pickups than the PP. They really should be called the "Standard" line.
Nice content you two. But a humbucker in the neck of a Tele just doesn’t work. But a humbucker as an added middle position would be cool. After all is said and done I think the Ventura is such a bargain. It clicks all the buttons but at an affordable price.🤐
Cheers Mike
Thought the Ultra sounded really good. Perhaps I'm biased as I actually own one...
Interesting - made me think I wouldn't buy one of those - too hot. "One man's meat is another man's poison"!
another Tele comparison and still no G&L ASAT in the mix? that's just not fair :)
I can only do what they have in store.
Pink LSL or white Fender for me pls
Exactly my pref.
@@TheStudioRats would be interesting to hear your son's tele neck p/up in the mix....I just can't get over how valuable that video is. Pure gold. The best instrument is the one that makes you play most often. Feel = no 1, looks =2 and for me the sound is sort of 3. Any guitar can be made to sound ok (I am a sound engneer!) and the differences are small, but the feel and the looks are what inspires you play and not walk past. But having said that, the LSL and the white fender had that magic..... Oh I contradict myself!
I think I got ripped off for what I thought was buying a Telecaster custom shop.
Never played a Tele.
get me a leftie..............
are you going to answer my question I posted 13 days from now?
Pelosi pink!
Why can’t you just play without pedals so we can hear the guitars, that’s the point of he video isn’t it?
Because it’s my video.
Worth also checking out Lewisguitarworks.com - first discovered them on Facebook, he makes some stunning instruments. On their Facebook page scroll down to a video 05/11/20 for a T-style demo. Sounds and looks phenomenal! I really don’t like the colour orange but I’d snap this one up in a nanosecond.
Cheers Simon, I’ll check that out.
