We payed into social security and so did our employers ! So why do we need to take it out of the budget?
Because they, the government, stole it for discretionary spending. I'm sorry if this reality is going to hurt you - it has become a "tax" washed up in the fat part of the budget, and is now, literally, gone. Do not rely on it if you are middle aged or younger.
It doesn't need removed. There is a leak in the American budget. And it's in this untouchable section of Medicare Medicaid and social security.
You know how big our military is, right? Hundreds of billions of dollars go into it annually.
Yet the amount paid into social security, Medicare, and Medicaid is about 30x more than our military budget.
Are you telling me that you are seeing your fair share of that money?

Because Social Security isn't a savings account. Funding for SS goes to pay for people who are currently retired. The economic foundation for SS is fundamentally flawed.

Thanks Chip... I wanted to add a reality. I achieved the American dream. Then after my wife and I retired, the American dream is now too expensive. There will come a time very soon that I will be able to pay my property taxes but unable to pay for Insurance. When I retired, a Rib-Eye steak was 5 dollars a pound. Now, its more than 15 dollars a pound.
Hot dogs are 6 dollars a pound. It's 7 dollars for 4 oz of flavor additive to add to water to give it some flavor.
I put myself through school and own no money to anyone. Now, I could not begin to afford to go to Grad school, even if I was still employed.

Well, not on topic. On the national debt, I have been a deficit hawk since I graduated high school (even when I thought of myself as a Democrat) that was when our entire debt was 2 trillion. Now we are adding that much debt in a single year. Guess what? Nobody listened then, nobody's listening now. Not yet. And when they do act it will likely be too late. On the car- you bought it didn't you? I fix my older vehicles. Most new vehicles are absolute trash. My headlight costs about $10 and they last for a decade.

Lots of people with umbrella accounts that are not even FDIC insured too. That should be illegal, like placing multiple beneficiaries covered under one umbrella when they should be individually insured. That is willfully being corrupted. Not insuring your clients the right way.
