- n this video, I’m testing a variety of cables that I suspected might be faulty. I wasn’t sure if all of them were bad, but I knew some definitely had issues. Instead of connecting each one to a guitar or microphone, I used the Hosa CBT-500 Cable Tester to quickly and easily identify which cables were good and which needed to be replaced. This handy tool tests a wide range of connections, including XLR, 1/4 inch, 2/4 TRS, BNC, RCA, DIN, 3-pin and 5-pin XLR, Speakon, 2p/4p/8p Speaker, Ethernet, USB A/B, and it even has continuity testing capabilities.

I can't wait to order this! The only thing I wish it had right off the bat is something I've only seen on Behringer CT-100 when it comes to economy grade testers, and that is an INTERMITTENT light with reset button. It's a light that sticks on whenever a line in the cable disconnects for even the shortest amount of time. So, you can wiggle the cable around and, even if you don't catch it in action, you can see if there was a break in any of the lines. Furthermore, you can reset it and wiggle either end again to see where the bad solder or whatnot is.
I wish more testers had this, but based on your review, I look forward to ordering my HOSA tester to test more cable types!
Oh wow. After this comment I saw that I've been here before with a similar comment... Oops 😅🤣 Good video though! Cheers
Thanks Kennis! I have a "bag of potentially bad cables" too and will likely get one of these!
Great video mate. I'm looking to purchase a cable tester as well. With a sea full of brands out there this looks quite solid. Thanks for the review
As a follower of the retro video game community, I know BNC cables are actually video cables that were used in PVMs during the CRT era.
Yes. That is true. They are also used in production video setups. That is why I said SDI at first. SDI is like a production video coax.
00:08 Blake Shelton now doing audio equipment reviews on youtube...
Actually good video got this unit great features
Great video . Hope you doing good there.
I’m doing well.
Im to PO for a tester, i just use a Multi meter, set it on continuity. but the only cables i test are guitar and mic cables.
That works too.
I have the Behringer equivalent and it’s come in handy. This looks like a better design though.
Cool. Mine was an older behringer one. I think they have improved on it and is more similar to the Hosa. It’s a great tool to have.
But what about old cables that pass audio but may have a dull sound? Is there a way to test for audio frequency response? Or something like that. Thanks!
can a cable be at say 80% efficiency? or is it all or nothing. I had my set-up downstairs ready to record. I did a quick run though last night and everything was good. Then I did the recording today and it doesn't sound the same. It's like something is restricting the signal flow or something...
Cool Video! hope you are doing well. What do you do with the bad cables? do you try to find where the break is and shorten re-solder and save the cables? or just toss them?
I have tried to resolder them, but lately I have just tossed them and bought a Hosa cable. I have slowly replaced almost all cables with Hosa rean cables.
You mentioned having the Behringer one before - I'm assuming this is probably the CT-100 or CT-200. Question - does this HOSA have the feature that the Behringer has of a LED light latching on until you reset it, when a continuity issue is detected? That is one feature I really like about the CT-100, but I'm looking for all the connections of the HOSA.
