I spent a lot of time in his streams leading to this, as he worked on the big dragon skip, the boat skip etc - and y'all would not believe the number of naysayers in his chat coming in and telling him those skips he was working on were too random, not repeatable, etc. And he still got all these skips labbed enough to repeat them and then put them together into this run. He went into full on despair several times after losing really nice runs. You can feel his frustration and desire to quit, but then he'd just go and get back in there. Fantastic work and very tough mentally for Dist to stick with it through all of that. It's why Dist is my favorite speedrunner.
Whats wrong with people... they are feeling honored and like they are achieving something by proxy that they actually had nothing to do with. Maybe go actually do something and achieve something yourself, no matter how small it is you will have done more than the people that watched a video stream.
Zexrow who is another only up streamer streamed for 26 hours straight that's dedication at its finest right there. But HUGE congrats to dist for the sub 17 he is the best speed runner in the world, no doubt in my mind
I only have a passing interest in speedrunning, but damn this is impressive. Setting new records on a daily basis with a game that in notoriously glitchy and a very high risk and reward factor for just a couple of seconds faster. You are a pioneer, kudos to you sir. Congrats.
I hope he can try make use the bed in 8:41. Not sure whether the strength of that bed can enable him bypass the snake altogether, to connect to the bed visible in 9:28. May need a double jump though.

I’ve been interested in speedruns for a while but watching Dist grind this game felt like I was witnessing history lol. This game became quite popular and he said he wanted to destroy this game, after many attempts and hours of grinding he destroyed this game and set a time that’s going to be tough to beat.
Glad to say I saw this live. After 7 hours of grinding, frustration, and that god dang boat skip, this run had me quite literally on the edge of my seat with anticipation. Kudos Dist!!! You deserve it!!!
The sad part is he had a run that was -12 that died at the boat skip. He would’ve killed this category assuming they don’t update it that makes it faster. Regardless, congrats to D for smashing the WR and PB’ing twice on top of that. He got the sub 17 and retired from Only Up (for now)

This is full 3D, all precision, all the time, so I can only imagine how much *f u n* you had grinding for this! Amazing run, it must be so satisfying to nail the bounce physics in particular!

same tbh I’m fine with dying 10000 times in a brutally hard but consistent room that lasts one minute (e.g. clearing some of Celeste’s hard modded map list), but doing up to 17 minute runs for 3000 times in a janky game seems really fucked to me. the consistency required is really impressive, especially with the poor controls definitely a speedy legend

I think there's a lot of records by Chinese runners that have more flawless movement, but distortion finds sooo many new skips and that's how he gets better runs every time

So I've watched all the recent videos him breaking his own records and it's genuinely amazing to me. Like, dude is like: "I can do better" and I'm sitting here like "How did this get faster?"
No one knows. He usually doesn't choose a game to run out of nowhere. He plays a ton of games casually and if the game is fun and could be a good speedrun, he runs it.
he would not be able to dominate an optimized game with already great players he mainly runs new games and get a ton of records on them because they are new (and because he's very good obviously)
