Billy Baldwin - Nantucket Influences

Billy Baldwin (William Williar Baldwin, Jr., 1903-1983) , famously known as the dean of American interior decorators, summered on and off Nantucket Island since childhood and retired here in 1973, a decade before his death. In this excerpt from an interview done for the Nantucket Historical Association and Nantucket Channel 3 in 1976, he shares a few memories and experiences as a child with his family in ‘Sconset during their summer holidays. He also discusses certain subtle influences that later emerged in his exemplary design aesthetic.

Oh, I love this interview! Thank you. Grew up spending summer's on Nantucket at the Breakers and when that was no longer we spent summers at the Stone Barn Inn. Billy Baldwin was a favorite of my mother's as well as Siasconset. I miss Nantucket ♡
