Hi Phill Pleased you’re happy with the results. As it’s sitting around 11.6 just keep an eye on the power climbing once everything beds in. You might need to adjust it Darryl

Thanks for this. There are loads of videos of disassembly but very few of assembly. Servicing my 1993 HW77K and replacing the bent mainspring, the mechanicals of the HW77K are pretty much identical to the HW97K so this was a great help to me.
Just done mine nearly the same as your videos, a lot better cocking , very smooth, less twang, just shoots better, thanks , if I can do it anyone can 👍

Brian Walker the 95 is a bit different on the strip down compared to the 97kt, I wouldn't say it's harder it's just different, I myself have just finished restoring a 95, I bought it for £60 the stock was a sight for sore eyes, it was snapped at the pistol grip, and had screws, nails, super glue and wood glue as an attempt to hold it together, whoever did it made a right mess, it was not worth trying to save it, it had more holes than Swiss cheese when I took all the screws and nails out of it, had to buy a new stock, the action wasn't to bad a few pitted areas of rust, I polished the whole cylinder and barrel to a high mirror finish and reblued with tetra blue as I found the blue gels didn't give me the finish I wanted, polished the spring ends and cylinder degresed it all and greased it all as Darryl did, and now the gun looks brand new and shoots like a charm, the cocking of the rifle is lovely smooth

Fantastic vid mate ave no done away with my pcp's and when back too springers love them now own a mk3 tx200hc 22 and a HW97K synthetic 22 these in my opinion are far better then any pcp also keep up the videos from a fellow Geordie in morpeth.
+Liam Stewart so you had the PCP experience too. I tried a Benjamin marauder pistol, the gun cost $340, the Hill pump half that, and the accuracy was terrible. Could not hit a 6" target with any consistence, at 25 feet so save its own life. After getting tired of the pumping and the leaks and unfixable accuracy ( It needed a reseal not long after it was out of warranty, a little over a year, the places i checked charged $75 for a reseal. Fair enough, but rather then reinforce failure I chose to put the money toward another gun). Gave up the hobby for a long while and finally went back to the springers, a good one this time, a Walther LGU. It's everything the Marauder is not.
I cannot believe how straight my new Weihrauch shoots straight out of the box. I shot a 1 inch group at 20m at my first try which I am more than happy with and I've been away from shooting of any kind for 30 years & I now need glasses to shoot with. There's no way I will be pulling this straight shooting baby apart as I don't see a need right now. Prior to this I bought a new .177 which would not cock out of the box. Dealer gave me another one. After 60 shots it lost power & made a popping noise, took that one back too. Can't help bad luck I guess. (Benjamin)
Just about to follow your guide. Picked up a nearly new 97k Blackline STL and its a beaut. Smooth, easy to cock and accurate. Best with JSB Exact 8.44, followed by RS then Heavies. Just waiting on some 800 and 1200 grit as local DIY has ran out. I have some Bisley moly so I hope that will do. Shooting 11.4 with exact and 11.77 with some old Defiant HFT 8.5
This is just a guide as to what I do mate. If you’re happy with you’re rifle then way it is then great. As I say in any video it’s all about personal choice. Happy shooting
rebuilt my 97k, short stroke kit, spring sleeve,2 power washers light coat of moly on spring with small amount of tinbum moly paste on piston, after reassembly and testing getting 11.10ft lb with jsb 8.4grn 4.52, the rifle also seems to like and shoot actually and well with crossman premier domed 7.9grn 4.52,don't know if it's worth chasing a few extra ft lb as the rifle is shooting nicely and accurately consistently sub 5p groups at 25mtrs and I'm no Marksman lol. must be down to the hw.
you didn't fit a top hat (piston end of spring?) you just used the standard spring guide ( trigger block end of spring) would you say no need to fit top hat to spring? most kits seem to include top hat and new spring guide. I'm guessing you need to remove the slip washer in piston of fitting top hat?.I did assume the 97k came with top hat from factory??.. great series of videos very helpful thanks.

cracking & very informative video, picking up my first 97kt next week after almost exclusively shooting pcp's. use to have the hw80 but I can't wait to get my hands on this beauty. will definitely carry out this on my hw97 should I feel the need. Just one question for you though if you don't mind, did you manage to eliminate the twang from the spring? which was typical with my hw80. Regards Paul

What you call yr type of tuning is the best, l have the HW-95 did my tune the day l bought last year, thing is with it is when the piston is removed from cylinder seal is ruined, needs the cylinder de burring, the 97s are just a better design with piston in compression tube, gonna sell it an get a 97.
6lr6ak6 Thanks for your comment. Yes you’re correct. Although very accurate straight out the box I always find honing and de-burring the cocking lever slot and cylinder and replacing the piston seal and factory grease a necessity for smooth operation and increased shot consistency
6lr6ak6 personally I prefer the cleaner lines and “out the box” quality of the Prosport but any rifle is only as accurate as the shooter and is all down to personal preference.

6lr6ak6 try contacting Steve Pope at VMach. I’ve used and fitted many of their kits and fully recommend them. I’ve heard the Titan springs can be a bit “snappy” as apparently they’re wound different
Daryl. You mentioned in first video you removed a coil from the spring to keep it within the 12lb/ft power limit, were your chrono tests done with a coil removed or with the full OEM spring to get 11.1ft.lb. Cheers

As I said in the video, this is what works for me and just for your information, the rifle featured in the making of these videos is still going strong and is just as accurate with its new owner. If you read the comments the series has also helped others understand the workings of their rifle and even given some the confidence to work on their own kit.
@@GeordiehuntersTV First thing first: It is very well that you are a person who wants to improve things and that you are willing to share your experiences with others. Regarding the ‘tuning process’, I would have some observations: a) - the piston and the cylinder have a very well defined manufacturing process; that means honing and ultrasonic cleaning; b) - the surface roughness for the piston is obtained by vibration finishing in Röestler machinery; the surface aspect is dull, but very smooth; c) - after sandpaper ‘honing’, the surface roughness is definitely worse, but the optical aspect looks better; d) - the only critical surface of the piston is that of the polyamide cap(they could do it from graphite PTFE, which would ensure a dry lubrication also, but this would increase the costs!); the rest of the piston is just for inertial purpose; e) - the cylinder inner surface has a prescribed roughness and roundness, that you cannot obtain by hand with sandpaper; f) - after polishing the two parts, the clearance between them will be increased, and abrasive micro grains will remain there, no matter how well you will wipe the surfaces (it’s like introducing sand under your eyelids); this will lead with time to a premature wear of both surfaces and the sealing will be lost. In fact, what you are obtaining is a little better aspect, but the functionality of the system will be worse and the lifetime shorter. Does it worth the work for this?
I don't like the sound of the gun cocking at 16:58, i've got the feeling you've undergreased it or forgot some part which i havent noticed. I tuned my hw97 myself too and it has a light 'pheew' sound when cocking the rifle, and IMHO it sounds much better than a (very light) metal-to-metal sound like in the video I've yet to chrono my rifle, i hope to do so soon. I did manage to measure it using a sound recording and calculated the difference between shot and target hit (and taking into account the time it takes for the sound to travel back), and it came somewhere around 170m/s (~566ft/s), although inaccurate
Cheers for your comment I can assure you the correct amount of grease was applied and the rifle was smooth to both cock and shoot and was as consistent as the chrono results showed. As you say you also do your own then you'll already know excessive grease can cause dieselling and inconsistencies
Holly shiz thismshould be a vid on how not to grease a piston .spring should,have been blued on the ends ,use a silcone cloth with a few dots of moly ,whatnsize soring was put in 8"/9"/10"/11" some proper rool would also come in handy there will be burrs left fron that adjustable spanner amature at best id never send a gun to this guy bad gun cleaning skills
Thanks for your comment. No one sends their gun to me, these are my own personal rifles and as I say in the videos this is what works for me. There’s no reason to blue the ends of the spring apart from aesthetics that you don’t see. Also, used properly there are no burrs left from an adjustable spanner and can be the correct tool when used properly.
I was thinking the same ,not being nasty to the chap ,he should have least covered the trigger group as all the wet and dry dust and metal filings are now inside his group ,and use a nylon hammer on the pins ,and I bet thay spanner has left some maring on the trigger group slot ,not going to mention the dirty oily rag covered in old grease and metal filings ,but that's me lol ,I would not call this a tune but rather a service

11.2 ft lb for a springer is amazing! That's exactly what my Huntsman puts out! I think your should buy another New 97 and sell me this one.
