So it was on neutral and when the driver released the brake, the vehicle started to move forward as it is a downward going road. The driver realized this soon and pressed the brakes. He then again shifted to reverse. I don’t understand the "extra gear" you are talking about. As far as I know, this b9r has 6 forward, 1 reverse and neutral.
