You said while discussing the premium defenders that you find tactical analysis fascinating - and that if we wanted to hear more of that sort of thing in your videos we should let you know in the comments - well this is me very much asking for that type of content! :) You come across as a very intelligent man, analytical, and a really nice guy too, and I’d absolutely love to hear more of your thoughts on tactical analysis :)
I genuinely don’t understand why people are saying that Pedro Porro is expensive at 5.5m and yet want to force Trent into their team at 1.5m more. Pedro Porro outscored in FPL points Trent last season and had better attacking return. Yea, Spurs had a worse defensive record but it’s worth remembering that a) Van de Ven was out for a few months which hit the defence as it meant Davies and Emerson Royal was the defensive pairing for many matches if and when Romero was out, and b) it was Postecoglou’s first season in charge and typically first seasons can be a bit up and down due to transition. We know that Spurs play on the front foot and that Pedro Porro is highly likely to once again return strong attacking numbers. I think he’s the one to go with and a better value pick. Why pay an extra 1.5m for fewer points, less attacking return and we don’t know how Trent performs in a Slot team so it’s a gamble.
I’ve done a deeper dive and seen that Pedro Porro started ten more matches and only managed three more assists. Trent also had more shots per minute. I appreciate that this data is included in the video at relevant time points but it’s good to do your own work too as well as to use excellent content that you have provided. I will go with Pedro Porro still as for me, he’s in an established system and I really think he can give more returns than he gave last season. I can understand why people would go for Trent. But, for me I maintain that Pedro Porro is better value and perhaps Trent playing ten matches fewer may highlight injuries are more likely with him than with Pedro Porro who missed very few matches last season. It’s a personal view and it’s fun to talk and to compare how all players do as the season progresses. Perhaps I’ll regret my decision of Pedro Porro over Trent but that’s why we have transfers too so can make changes in future if deemed necessary.
Thank you!!! Genuinely I feel like porro is near essential at that price for what he offers going forward. Beyond his attacking upside, Spurs in general are a team that I feel you can expect to improve offensively and defensively with their squad being fully healthy. Raptor said he's someone who loves looking into managers, and I don't see what there isn't to love about Ange as a manager in terms of his philosophy and potential with this Spurs team. Especially with those great opening two fixtures, Porro is a lock in my team. After the first two weeks, if he's not been impressive, he can easily be moved, but I doubt I'll want to. If I'm being honest, I'm happy that most people are passing up on him, I just don't entirely understand why.
Liverpool have one of the best starting run of fixtures defensively+better defence overall With Porro, he is an awkward spot where there are better options for 2nd slot for 6.0 and he is too expensive for 3rd slot with this starting fixtures.
Hey Ross what do you think about choosing 5 4.5 defenders? Looking at the points from last season a premium defender can get about 125 points, while when choosing the right defenders to rotate a 4.5 can get about 90 points. You spend about 1.5 million more for about 30 points. Don’t you think spending this extra money in the midfield or attack can provide more points in the long run?
Cheers Ross, My current team is Miguel, Turner, Trent, Gvardiol, Saliba, Konsa, Faes, Gordon, Foden, Eze, Salah, Rogers, Watkins, Isak and Ladapo. Looking forward to seeing your draft with 3 premiums on Friday and would definitely be interested in seeing some more tactical analysis from you in the future if that is something that you are interested in.

As a Newcastle fan, if Trippier goes, Burn will be captain at LCB. Despite Hall's form at end of season, I suspect Kelly's experience will put him LB provided he's fit enough @@FPLRaptor
Hi Ross. This is a bit rogue but a Porro/Robinson combination gives you fixtures of lei, EVE, ips, WHU, BRE, nfo, bha, WHU, cpa, BRE for your opening ten. It’s something I’m debating instead of an Arsenal defender. Thoughts?
29:55 I think that could be a fun series where u get into what and why managers do certain stuff. I think it could help us see the game of football and FPL a bit more clear
Robinson has the best attacking returns out of all the 4.5 defenders however less likely to get as many cleansheets in the Fulham defense. Konsa has great fixtures however their could be a bit of rotation and rest time cause of the Champions League and Newcastle defence don't wanna go anywhere near cause Pope is just coming back from an injury, a great player in Trippier could be leaving the club, Lacelles and Botman are out of the team but that makes me worried too cause all they have to rely on is Burn and Schar at the back so an injury or suspension there could spell trouble. The safest 3 man defense is to probably go Trent, Andersen who got all 38 starts last season with a bit ot attacking threat and Mykolenko with great fixtures and in that really well drilled defensive Sean Dyche side too.
If you are only getting Arsenal defence for clean sheets then Raya is the cheapest way in at 5.5, pair with a 4.0 bench fodder keeper, rather than Saliba and a 4.0/4.5 defender?
Hey Ross, back to FPL after a 1,5 year break and still loving your channel. I initially joined for your FPL psychology series, and would definitely enjoy some more tactics-oriented content as well. There's already so many content creators sharing their drafts or going through the data, but especially now in pre-season it would be great to see more in-depth analysis of Liverpool or Chelsea's new system and how that might impact their FPL assets. Great to see some extra confirmation that I wasn't wrong choosing Pickford, Munoz, Konsa and Murillo. The only thing where I really disagreed was on the Premium defenders. Curiously enough I also recently watched many videos on Slot's system and my conclusion was exactly opposite: I dropped Trent because I think he would most likely be used as the inverted wing back tasked to stay deep, and I brought Salah back in as I suspect he might mirror his assymetrical system to be able to play Salah as the inside forward on the right. In gw1-11 Arsenal face all 6 highest ranked opponents from last season (mci, liv, avl, tot, che, new) and 5 of those are away games! You could argue that Arsenal is capable of still doing well, and they possibly could, but it's a stretch to say they have good fixtures, even if you limit the period to 6 or 8 weeks. Really strange that I see the same from other youtubers. Maybe it's those fixture tickers putting so much weight on Arsenal's defensive strentgh that they just always appear as fixture-proof. I'm going to avoid them until gw12.
Hi Ross! I've got Flekken, Gabriel, Gvardiol, Mykolenko, Salah [C], Hudson-Odoi, Eze, Gordon, Havertz, Haaland and Muniz. With 1m in the bank I've dropped Gabriel and upgraded to Trent. But i think Arsenal will keep clean sheets and who knows maybe Gabriel gets an attacking return so I'd still like him but for me to do that I'd have to drop Muniz to a 4.5m forward and upgrade Mykolenko to Gabriel. just a heads up with managers that coach with a positional play philosophy; the structure their team achieves when established in the opposition half wont necessarily be filled by the same positions when coaching different teams. so Slot might not have a fb inverted, he could achieve the same structure with different movements from different positions to try and get each player in their optimal space on the pitch.
Hi Raptor, thanks for your content. I think Villa will be worse defensively, the leaving of Douglas Luiz will hurt them more than we think. Think we might be on the same draft from what you’re saying, have you thought about doing Saliba to a 4.5 and your keeper to raya? Saves 0.5 and Raya is a nailed Arsenal defender
I'm currently thinking of maybe having ALL my defenders be 4.5 mil and rotating based on fixtures. I just don't feel like spanding money on premium defenders this season is worth it (except Gvardiol, but I'm doing a ''no Man city'' draft)
Disregarding Liverpool’s fixtures did TAA really convince us last season and in the Euros (playing a different role than in his club) and has he passed his prime?
Toffolo def not nailed, Forest will likely play Nico Williams at RB whenever he's available (he was injured quite a bit last year). However, Eric da Silva Moreira, 18 year old, was signed as a RB, and he's shown to be very attacking in limited time with the club. You would expect the recently signed Milenkovic (who didn't score last year in 50 appearances) and Murrillo to be the starting CBs, Aina would likely start LB, but Toffolo and/or Omar Richards might take minutes away. Richards is back with Forest, fit and apparently playing well in pre-season. Full backs looks likely to be a wait and see, whereas the CBs look nailed. Murrilo attacking data might not have been great last year, but I think just about every Forest fan is surprised he didn't score at least one goal. I think he'll get a couple at least this year. RE: the forest defence, remember how many set piece goals they gave up last year? That's not sustainable, and brought in Milenkovic to help with that.
How is Leif Davis 12th rank??. Have him in your bench till they finish playing Liverpool and City. He had 22G/a last year for ipswich. He remind me alot of Alfie Doughty and Maxwell cornet at the time he was a Burnley balling out.
What folk are missing is ...They think last season he was unreal. The year previous across the 7 top european countries leagues for minutes played he came only 2nd to de bruyne on goals & assists points gained . It wasn't a one off. I cried when we sold him for 1 mil cos he didn't fit in clown boy jesse marsch's plans .. He is only going to get better.
Disagree on Fulham improving defensively this season. The loss of Palhina and Tosin is pretty rough. Don't hate Robinson though with the fixtures, but would rather target better defences.
@@robinbaggio89 I think there’s a case to be made for Munoz / Mitchel, Udogie, Maatsen or even Shaw depending on how you think ETH 2.0 goes? Palace and Villa start well, fixtures wise and very attacking fullbacks.

Thanks mate 👍
Mykolenko is injured and hasn’t traveled with Everton on pre-season tour.
Great job Ross
Colwill will almost certainly start every week
Disagree on Fulham improving defensively this season. The loss of Palhina and Tosin is pretty rough. Don't hate Robinson though with the fixtures, but would rather target better defences.
you seem like youd be a great teacher
Thank you mate, I am actually a lecturer for my day job!
There’s tasty 5.0s being overlooked. Naturally people going premium and then fillers so they aren’t in the conversation currently?
Which ones would you say are overlooked?
@@robinbaggio89 I think there’s a case to be made for Munoz / Mitchel, Udogie, Maatsen or even Shaw depending on how you think ETH 2.0 goes? Palace and Villa start well, fixtures wise and very attacking fullbacks.
Yes mate i agree i've got Maatsen and Munoz. I'm dutch so i'm a little bias but i feel he is gonna cook this season! @@mattheendpod2659
sadly Ross I think Trent will be a Madrid player, FSG look like they want to cash in and Im also worried we might lose VVD.
That would be a huge loss. I can't see it, yet!
Lloyd kelly can play cb and hall lb or livramento
Nice one
Having lost Palinha to Bayern - I reckon Fulham defence will be less stable compared to last year
The difference between Robbo and TAA is the quality of the delivery. Numbers can only say so much.
Newcastle signed Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth so can't see Burn being nailed at centre back
Munoz is gonna absolutely cook this szn 🙏🙏
He's unreal isn't he
Leif davis is a fantastic player Ross he's in my team 100%
If you want a 6 point merchant for Arsenal, you might as well get Raya for 5.5, save the 0.5 and get another 4.5 Defender. :/
Brilliant stuff as usual mate.
Thank you my friend!
Van der ven no attacking threat? 3 goals in 27 prem games last season
I'd rather go Raya over Saliba for Arsenal defense and utilise the .5m elsewhere. Gabriel would be a different debate tho.
Really good video :)
Thanks!
