i swear if i see a comment like this " haha potatos are unhealthy and you eat junk food haha "
I will ... ok i think ill go to bed now bye
Good night, sleep well
+Cornelia Hanimann i didn't sleep yet , 24 hours without sleep :)
+KhalafZone | خلف زون that's unfortunate. 24 hours is a long time, hopefully you get to nap sometime during your day then
+Cornelia Hanimann you are a nice person i hope you have a great day :3 thank you
***** haha, thanks you too
The thing you said about the Veggie Grill reminds me of the time I went with my cousins to this restaurant called Native Foods. At the time I didn't know much about vegan food and none of us had any idea it was vegan. We were confused when we noticed the meats were called "native" like native chicken. Even after tasting the food we still weren't positive it was vegan. Now I know what seitan is and that it was definitely not meat haha.
Awww man! Native foods is the shit! I dream about their Reuben. Love that place! Loving hut is great, too.
tickledxoxpink Yeah, the food was really good. I only got to go there two times and I just found out the one I went to closed. It's kinda tragic because it was the only vegan restaurant in the area.
omg that must have been so exciting !! I wish I could visit such a vegan friendly place one day :)
I know this may not sound like a compliment but you are the only vegan on youtube who doesn't act like they smell their own farts besides the bite sized person. Your videos are the only ones besides bite-sized that I can watch with out cringing. Been vegan for 25 days and you have helped a ton! :)
Thanks for sharing what you ate in OR. I was just talking about moving to the NW this morning. I am in New Zealand right now and am from Minnesota so if I move back to the US, Seattle was my choice but then Portland came up this morning and then you post about Portland being the vegan mecca etc. Hmmm... I am sure you are thrilled to know this=P Anyway I am very frustrated with the lack of vegan options across the board here in Auckland ie. shopping/groceries ,restaurants(0) and feel like moving home. But the flip side is, a person should eat more whole foods / keep it basic anyway. No sarcasm, half the fun of being vegan is learning and creating delicious foods from scratch. You are one of the key people I look to for figuring this whole plant-based life out. Thanks so much!
It really is. And her tips have been really helpful for picking food
Austin is also a good choice. It was named the most vegan friendly city in the U.S. Austin is even the biggest no-kill city in the U.S., meaning Austin shelters save more animals than any other U.S. city. They really do cater to vegans and animals here.
You were in my home town! Your one of my favorite youtubers and my fav overall vegan youtubers all together. Thanks for your inspiration.
I got so excited when I saw the title of this video! I'm going to Portland for the first time in 2 weeks. I knew there would be a lot of vegan places but it's nice to have gotten some opinions. Thanks! haha :)
+siimplyveronica What you really need to do in Portland is try the Vegan Corn dogs from Hungry Tiger, some baked goods from Back to Eden (way better than Voodoo, their doughnuts are incredible) and if you hit up Veggie Grill I always recommend the Nachos.
Ashley Stanley Ah, this is great! Thanks for the reccomendations! I definitely want to try out those vegan corn dogs! haha
I love how you're honest and don't just say you like it cause its vegan! (I feel like some people do that ) love your videos!
The Loving Hut is a food truck here in Vancouver, BC. At ours they do burgers, fries and onion rings....best vegan burger anywhere. They use Gardein as well. And so proud to say Gardein is a Vancouver based business.
Your videos are great. You are one of the best Vegan channels. You're not so negative like most vegans. I been a vegan for 15 years and I don't like Vegans. But I like you and love your channel.
Next time you visit you'll have to visit more of the Portland-specific eateries! NLB, VG, & Loving Hut are chains but PDX has a lot of great locally owned spots to check out. Hope you enjoyed our bustling city :)
+Robin I live in Medford and will be heading up to Portland soon :) Can you recommend a few of your favorite local vegan restaurants? I'd appreciate it!
Sure! One of my very faves is "Harvest at the Bindery" for brunch or a nice dinner. Also brunch: a.n.d Cafe. Bakeries: Back to Eden Bakery and Sweetpea Baking (next door to Herbivore Clothing and Food Fight! Grocery). Lunch/dinner: Blossoming Lotus, The Sudra, Departure (fancy). Vegan pizza: Sizzle Pie. Enjoy your trip!
Loving hut isn't Portland specific tho they have them all over the world
You've gotta visit Dun-well Doughnuts in Brooklyn! And there's an awesome vegan diner a block away from it (Champs), plus a Loving Hut a few blocks away.
It's great seeing you so fired up :D
the loving hut in fountain valley, california is SO GOOD. i also love veggie grill and native foods. native foods started in palm springs but now is all over california, oregon, colorado and even one in chicago!
Thank you, I need to visit Portland soon as my son has moved there from NY and these Veggie options sound good
Glad you got to visit! If you ever come back, you need to do brunch! Portland does brunch like a boss. Blossoming Lotus, Portobello's, Nectar Cafe, and A.N.D. Cafe are a few of my absolute faves. Waffles ftw!
I just got back from a visit to Portland a few days ago too. I ate at the same food truck I think. Was it on Mississippi Ave? I was also underwhelmed. But I ate some awesome coconut curry tofu deliciousness at a different truck. I didn't make it to Powell's this time, but ohhhh man, that is my all time favorite book store since I was like 8! Glad you had a good time! :)
You messed up going to VooDoo donuts, but it's the one tourists know of most of the time, unfortunately. Next time go to Blue Star, way better donuts!
+AllauniraIRL yes! blue star is amazing!
+AllauniraIRL Do they have penis donuts? My work here is done.
every person from portland says this
@@dreamingrightnow1174 only voodoo has cock n balls donuts. But blue star is better if you want something different. Voodoo is multiple places like denver. Keep voodoo for denver
@@godjhaka7376 Voodoo went national? You sure? I haven't tried (or heard of Blue Star) but I'll have to try it now. I don't discriminate when it comes to donuts; every get's an equal opportunity, but it will be hard to beat Voodoo's raspberry filled for Hanukah.
I so want to visit Portland. Not just because of the vegan options, but it has the unofficial motto "Keep Portland Weird." It's like a city *made* for me!
Yup. I have that sticker on the back of my iPad. Got it a few years ago. Upside down too - weird right? Love Portland. Wish the Canadian dollar was better.
That was actually Austin's motto long before Portland took it. Lol.
I started a vegan diet a month ago! And I just found you last week :D IM SO EXCITED YOU CAME TO PORTLAND!! I'm from there, did you hang out on Hawthorne?
I just touched down in pdx visiting my sister! Excited to be back visiting after years away. Can't wait to find vegan nomz!!
It's so cute to see you get all excited about vegan options! The city where I live in Switzerland is not very vegan friendly, so I'm like this too when I travel elsewhere in Europe. I often have the impression that all vegans in the US are just munching on vegan doughnuts all day long, so it's good to be reminded that it's not like that for everyone.
When you mentioned Loving Hut I was transported several years back when I was interning in Hamburg, Germany and sometimes went to LH for lunch with my co-workers. I remember one of them saying it was "run by a cult" and that the employees don't get paid. Hope that's not the case. The branch in Hamburg had mostly Asian-inspired dishes.
Be sure next time you're here to check out Harlow on Hawthorne (all plant based) and Laughing Planet (tons of plant based options)! They're some of my favorites. The vegan mac and cheese is awesome at Harlow and also at Mac! on Mississippi.
Mighty-O donuts in Seattle is where the vegan donut action is at.
Omg!! Portland is vegan heaven. Loved this video. :)
Have you got a vid on why "plant based" is good over "vegan"? I like hearing your opinions, they're always well thought out
The word vegan causes negative reactions. Non vegans are more likely to try a vegan food referred to as plant based
The curry you ate was probably japanese curry? It's what they usually offer in Loving Huts and it's not supposed to be spicy, only sweet + zingy.
Hey, thanks for your videos :) this is such a safe, comfortable place for vegans and aspiring vegans.
Veggie Grill is da bomb, we have them here in Seattle. You probably got the buffalo wrap, which is really good. Thanks for sharing I go to PDX often :)
Next time you come to Portland, try Portobello (all vegan trattoria) and the Bye and Bye or Sweet Hereafter (all vegan bars). Also make sure to visit the vegan mini mall in Southeast with Sweetpea Bakery, Herbivore Clothing and Food Fight Grocery. Sweetpea makes donuts even better than Voodoo's on Saturdays. :)
Whole Foods has amazing vegan donuts in the bakery area, they’re from Posh bakery and you can also get them on their website...the blueberry one is the best IMO, SOO GOOD. They’re like glazed cake donuts! They also have vegan cinnamon donut holes.
Great video. I am a vegetarian (more vegan than veg) and live in Portland and you have reviewed places I never knew about so thank you! Always great to discover new places in my hometown so now I have a few more to check out. Ah, the things we take for granted sometimes with how vegan spoiled we are here in the NW with vegan options. Next time, Vtopia cheese tasting is highly recommended.
They have veggie grill in Seattle too, I had some today actually. You should come to Seattle next time, we've got pretty great options as well
Voodoo Donuts tip: go a couple minutes away to the second location across the river on East Burnside, which has no lines, and all the same vegan options.
It makes me happy that you loved it here so much! Portland is awesome. I've lived here all my life and being vegan here is awesome:)
Living in Portland does not suck! ;) We live in the Alberta neighborhood (NE Portland), which has it's own little collection of vegan & vegan friendly places (Back to Eden Bakery is one of our favorites). It's dangerous (for our waists), but so, so awesome for everything else. I hope you enjoyed your trip. It's a great town.
Loving Hut in downtown PDX is the best location of over 5 I've tried in Europe and the US. It's run by a husband and his wife - cute interior, large portions and great value!
If you ever decide to visit Seattle, we have might o donuts, wayward café, pizza pi, araya's and many more. I've been to all the places you've mentioned in Portland. Papa G's was my favorite.
More videos ! ❤️ loves from England
I was really hoping for this to be travel-vlog style. D:
Love Next Level Burger's chocolate shake! They have a place in Bend Oregon too.
You should review the vegan restaurants in Memphis! That would be a fun little series
There's a veg grill really close to me, and I love it! Their drinks are so yummy, and the food is just amazing.
Blossoming Lotus is my fav. Get anything that has soy curls in it.
A.N.D. Cafe is awesome for breakfast/brunch. Lots of yummy waffles.
Back to eden bakery is all GF vegan. Cute little shop. They have food as well as baked goods. They have soft serve too.
Yay! You came to Portland! I'm glad you loved it! It's such a blessing to live in a place where vegan food is so accessible! I have to disagree with your homegrown smoker review tho! I live really close to their food cart and I take all of my non-vegan friends there!
I am planing to go to Portland during my California trip this year to try some of this very delicious looking food.
New subscriber here. Portland native, but moved last year to Salem. (Stop moving here people! I'd love to be able to afford to live in my hometown!). Anywhooo, you missed some badass places. Ever plan on coming back? I'm sure you've heard of the grocery store we have coming later this year. Very exciting. I still haven't been to a few of the fancier places, but I am definitely going soon. I agree about the mac at Homegrown Smoker. I am not sure what my point is here but I saw a video about vegan food in Portland and felt the need to watch it and comment. Derp. I am curious if you tried out anything of the herbal variety while there, hehe.
They just opened an all vegan restaurant called the No Bones Beach Club here in Seattle. Freakin' Amazing food! Also just outstanding vibes, drinks, and selection of "beachy" food. (things like playing 80-90s surfer films 24/7, tikki drinks, surf boards). If you ever hit up seattle, I definitely suggest trying it! they also have a vegan food truck which was where they started.
and as for donuts, try mighty - O donuts if youre around as well. ALL their donuts are vegan, and just insanely delicious. My favorite is the grasshopper (chocolate with mint glaze)
Vtopia has the best mac and cheeze! Pappa G's and Blossoming Lotus are my fave restaurants. Also try A.N.D., Proper Eats, SIP, Kure, Back to Eden, SweetPea Bakery, Petunias, Portobella, Obon, Farm Spirit...
I like Home Grown Smoker!
There's a loving hut in Melbourne Aus which sells Vietnamese style food and it's soo good I eat there so often!
I'm moving to PDX this summer and this video reminded me why :D
So I live in Oregon and go to Portland a couple times a year but i haven't been since transitioning into veganism, I usually only need to eat one meal out when I go. We take our daughter to her appointments and eat lunch at the hospital. So of the places you tried which was your favorite so I can make sure to try it next time we go up?
Hope you enjoyed my hometown! Being a vegan here is super great, it's really awesome. Visit pdx again soon! xx
And if you come back, come visit the Bowl and Berry! (That's where I work, hehehe.)
I've been to the Loving Hut in Cincinnati! Me and my friends love that place. We live in Dayton so it's not that far of a drive, about 45 minutes. If you're close you should have a meet up. I'd love to meet you and have some Loving Hut. :)
Next Level Burger is the best!!! Try the SoCal burger. They are also getting a new menu with much more delicious items super soon!
I really do need to make my way down to Portland - especially now!
Nice. Voodoo donuts are indeed amazing. There is always always a line though.
I love Veggie Grill and Loving Hut. The Grill I go to is in San Jose and the Hut I go to is in Elk Grove(CA). And oh my gosh! Voodoo dounuts!? Man I wish I could go there! All the vegan options just makes me want to move to Portland!
Veggie Grill is an awesome place! I love their all hail kale salad as well as their Chick'n tacos! Delicious!!
I worked at Loving Hut here in Arizona! Nicest coworkers and bosses ever! They did talk about the religion a fair amount but didnt pressure us into it at all. But the best part was getting a free meal every day! The only reason I left was because the encouraged customer not to tip and then paid us very little, if I wasn't living with my parent I would not have been able to make it. I still eat there frequently but I make sure to tip :) I love that each one is a little different and all have very different menus, ours had a lot of vietnamese dishes because thats what the owners knew, but some american as well and lots of health foods! I remember that book, I loved looking at it, she had some crazy books hahahahaha! When I was hired though I was like wow, this is a cult hahahahah
I wondered if you went to Voodoo Donut. To enjoy the donut collection they have.
And judging by your response. You did indeed enjoy there selection.
What day were you in Portland? I went to Veggie Grill and Voodoo on Monday.
Hell yeah! next Level Burger started in my hometown in bend, OR ! So good !!
Glad you discovered Portlandian food! :)
Portland definitely seems to be a vegan paradise, thank you for your report!
I need to get there some day (as well as so many other spots in the US, I only know Washington DC and NY so far, as I am from Austria, Europe).
I already fell in love with Portland thanks to Kristin Lajeunesse and her travel blog and posts.
I wonder if you know her and what you think of her "Will travel for vegan food" project.
By the way, my hometown Vienna (Austria, Europe) offers quite a good variety of vegan and vegan friendly places as well, meanwhile, as does Berlin in Germany, for example. Just in case someone is thinking about traveling to Europe ;-)
I live in London and I've been to a Loving Hut here, in Archway. I'm not going to lie, it was kind of creepy. They serve predominantly Chinese food, which I'm not really a great fun of. But I went with a non-vegan friend who doesn't mind the sweet chilli taste they had going on for most of the dishes. She loved it. I personally loved the dessert: we got a lemon drizzle and a chocolate cake. They were truly amazing!
I live in Portland and I must say the best vegan restaurant I've been to is Blossoming Lotus! So good! They have the best cakes there too
I've been vegan for 12 years, have had hundred of mac n cheeses, and the homegrown smoker mac n cheese is one of my favorite mac n cheese's ever! Sad you didn't like it. If you ever come back to Portland, black water bar and the sweet hereafter are great!! Also, Vtopia - all vegan cheese shop with soups and sandwiches! Los Gorditos vegan menu is awesome, and they have fresh made salsa, as spicy as you want. oh and obviously Blossoming Lotus and Portobello! And check out the vegan mini mall :)
YES you listed all the better places in PDX :)
Hi there! I read something about Michael Greger doing cherry picking when it comes to certain studies and information about nutrition... what do you think about that?
I want to visit Portland so badly after seeing this video and your Facebook updates....
Omg I LOVE that Loving Hut in Cincinnati! I used to live there and their raw tacos were one of my favorite things! MMMmmmmmm......
Omigod you missed Harlow! With the Adobe salad!!!
Love Veggie Grill downtown PDX - go there a little too often ;)
Hi! I was wondering if you watched Cooked by Michael Pollan, on Netflix? Curious to know your thoughts on it. :)
I've finally decided to turn vegan :) I'd just like to thank you for that! :) You're one of the few sane vegan youtubers out there.
yo i'm just curious what city do you live in? i thought it would have more vegan options.
Could you make a video on how you should eat ?
I've never been to Portland (would love to go someday), but I live in California. Unfortunately, where I live (Central Valley) there aren't many vegan places. There is only one fully vegan place, a Loving Hut. But, it has odd hours and is closed during the weekends. So, that is no bueno for me. I've been to that one before though and they do have good food. There are other Loving Huts I've been to in California like in San Francisco and in the LA area. All of them were different, as in different menu items, but they all were mostly Asian food, mainly South East Asian, which is fine because that's my favorite. I've been to Veggie Grills in San Jose and in LA, great food! There's a lot of smaller vegan restaurants in LA, which is great and whenever I go there, I try to make my way to several of those. Voodoo Doughnuts sounds like a place where I'd be drooling as soon as I stepped in, hehe! Thankfully, the Whole Foods here where I live sells vegan doughnuts.
You missed the all Vegan mini mall including Food Fight Vegan grocery store and Scapegoat Vegan Tattoo! Plus much much more.
+FOGATRON Ⓥ I did visit Food Fight! Finally got some VeganEgg. :)
+Unnatural Vegan That's great! Food Fight is incredible. They supported me during my battle with cancer. 14 years vegan and I got cancer. Not impossible as you have pointed out.
I'm excited to go to voodoo! I have a skateboard event in April so I'll be in Portland! Woohoo!
Where do you get your shirts from? I would really like to know the brands. they are all super cute, especially the ones with the cats on them :)
UnnaturalVegan.com/shirts
Have you seen what Fuly Raw Christina is doing now? She is doing somehting called water fasting, I have no idea what that is but it got my attention. I would like to know your opinion about it. What is water fasting and how good can that be for you? I found a lot of info but it is still kind of confusing...Love your videos!
Just drinking water and not eating anything I guess. She supposedly does it for spiritual reasons. As far as health...No Food for a week does not sound healthy to me.
Going to Portland for a month with my husband. So lucky I found your channel today! Btw, we're not vegan, but we recently started trying to incorporate veganism into our diet.
The Whole Bowl in Portland is fantastic. Try the vegan version of the big bowl.
I'm visiting Portland next month! excited to eat some yummy vegan food lol
Yay!!! I live in Portland!!!! Wish I could have run into you :)
Ps, I eat voodoo donuts weekly (at least) 🍩🍩🍩🍩
Since I"m new to trying vegan foods, I found this interesting. I'm planning on trying a beyond brat and choa cheese next week. I like the morning star burgers so I don't care to try a more expensive one. I'm hoping it will be a better experience than my past tries with vegan hotdogs and cheese. Just a side note, master is also a term for teacher. I would have chosen that as a translation before connecting it to master/slave. That makes it a whole lot less creepy.
Waiting for the "you're promoting junk food in your videos!!!11" comments:) BTW There is a Loving Hut restaurant even here (in Moscow!), it's a really great place! Seems like it is very different from both of the places you've mentioned...
Next time you are in town go to Back To Eden Bakery. I love baked goods and I was so happy to find this place after going vegan. They are just amazing. Their chocolate cream pie is to die for. Whole Foods by Powells also has a ton of vegan baked goods. I am addicted to their vegan chocolate chip cookies and so is my roommate who isn't vegan. They are just magical
Hey! Ben & Jerry's has vegan ice cream . Could you do a review on a couple of flavors ...PLEEEAAASSSEEE?
That donut looks so delicious!
Beans with a side of miracle grow gardening soil...
"Yum"...
Portland was a great trip for me because you can eat so much healthy food on the go. But I don't know if you noticed it there but the pace of life was soooooooo sloooooowwwww. Maybe because I'm from the New York area but I was tearing my hair out there because of how slow everything was. Everyone was super nice but ten minutes felt like an eternity there and everyone seemed so lethargic. I'd go to the bar every night with my friend and things would start wrapping up by 11. It was nuts.
Is your cooking close to the level of the food you ate in Oregon?
I was just there this weekend, it was dope ;)
You also missed the Sudra which has an awesome happy hour!
I want to go to Portland! You think it's a nice place to live and/or visit?
Y'all gotta come up Toronto. You'd all die of the choices and quality. To put it in context, I've never been to a regular restaurant here that didn't have at least one vegan meal that isn't a salad.
Portland has amazing vegan food!! If you get to go again, try Blossoming Lotus and Papa G's. Also, if you get to Seattle area I love Wayward Vegan Café, near UW Voodoo Donuts rocks
