    Hi Lyn,I enjoyed this video as I have a large collection of Thanksgiving/Christmas cactus.I have a cuddly cactus and wonder if you could me advise about watering them.Thanks,and “hi” from midcoast Maine where it’s snowy❄️❄️

      Thats fantastic you have a large collection of Thanksgiving/ Christmas cacti, thats wonderful you have a cuddly cactus they are awesome with their white tufts and no spines, its best to stop watering your cuddly cactus until next April, from April until mid September you can water your cuddly cactus every time the soil in the pot has dried out, but do not water at all over the winter months, keep dry now until April, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday XXXX

    Hello lyn , in my place it is raining so I took my cactus inside my house, the rain will last for the next 6 days , my cactus won't get any sunlight, can I use domestic tubelight as a light source for my cactus ? I don't have the one you use for plants . Have a great day lyn lots of love ❤

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  2 дні тому

      Hi Aravind :-D the domestic tubelights don't always contain the same amount of lux needed for plants long term but it will still give your cacti a boost with the extra light and you can definitely use the tubelight for added light especially if it is only for a few days or weeks over winter, thanks so much Aravind for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday today XXXX

    Good afternoon. I have a quick question (and I’m not being rude/or a know it.) if you know that these cacti grow on trees like orchids, how come you plant them in soil instead of orchid bark? I too have holiday cacti, and grow them..but I’ve always grew them in Orchid Bark and clay pots and handing baskets with window screens..that way I can water every 3days in the spring and summer..and every week in the fall and winter..that way they’re always dry and very healthy..no root rot, no falling branches etc.

    • @mattthompson6281
      @mattthompson6281 4 дні тому +1

      @ just water it..I don’t know what kind of soil you have..but it should just be orchid bark..so that they can breathe and dry out fast after each watering

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  2 дні тому +1

      Hi Matt :-D Orchid bark is fantastic for planting these Schlumbergeras, I used to use just Orchid bark a few years ago but its very hard to get in large bags here, they only seem to sell small bags, but I do still use Orchid bark in the soil mix for my Schlumbergeras, I make up a soil mix of 25% loam and 30% Orchid bark and 25% peat and 20% perlite, thanks so much Matt for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday XXXX

      @@desertplantsofavalon oh, I see. That’s sad that they don’t have bigger bags of orchid bark. Ever since I learned about Orchard Bark decades ago, that’s been my only thing for my orchids and holiday cacti. I still can’t believe that a lot of people and nurseries still use regular potting soil. When I ask the nurseries why they don’t use the proper medium when planting, they tell me that they’re just the worker and they go through a 3rd party that ships the plant. My advice that I give people is, research and learn the plant you bought..what climate it comes from etc..that way you know the habits of the plant..so both of you thrive together. Anyway. I love your channel, keep up the great work, and keep uploading your plant collection. I just love watching
