  • How does one overcome loneliness?
Any negative emotion cannot be overcome by passivity. Putting out energy is vital, even if it is to begin making friends with yourself. To achieve a calm mind and calmness within oneself, the first thing needed is to get rid of distractions. Making a habit of television is a terrible thing.
A meditation technique to help bringing calmness is to watch one's breath with the bija mantra Hong Sau. A mantra is a word of power which has effect in the physical world. (The Hong Sau technique is explained). In the Western world, the word Amen can be taken as a mantra.
Among hurtful emotions is anger. How do we overcome it? If we learn to relax when we are tense or angry. In relaxation is acceptance. How to overcome hatred against someone who has caused you hurt? Accepting that it is and surrendering to that. This can happen if we realize that in the greater law of karma everything balances out. Learn to accept and not lash out. Anything you hate draws you to it. Love and hate both have an attraction. So learn to accept life and people.
To conquer any negative emotion, we must have energy. Meditation techniques can be very helpful, and Swami Kriyananda discusses how to meditate, as well as the use of mantras.

    ABOUT PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA
Paramhansa Yogananda, born in 1893, was the first yoga master of India to take up permanent residence in the West. Yogananda arrived in America in 1920, and proceeded to travel throughout the United States on what he called his “spiritual campaigns.” Hundreds of thousands filled the largest halls in major American cities to see the yoga master from India. Yogananda continued to lecture and write up to his passing in 1952. Paramhansa Yogananda’s initial impact on the Western culture was truly impressive. But his lasting spiritual legacy has been even greater. The path of Kriya Yoga, which combines the practice of advanced yogic techniques with spirituality in daily life, can be learned at ananda.org/kri....

I've been alone without anybody visiting me for 8 years. Loneliness has both its benefits and disadvantages.

Ananda Sangha Worldwide - Can these Mantras be said in English only, so that we can feel more connected to them by way of relating to what we are saying? Will the energy still be the same?

Sanskrit has a special powerful energy, so there is a good reason to use it. However, it is also nice to practice in your own language. Yogananda created many beautiful and powerful affirmations also in English (for example in "Scientific Healing Affirmations").

true. TV is terrible, youtube is better. dog is the best. you need to watch the news especially the coronavirus pandemic. but spend time in nature alone 2~3 hours a day is extremely healthy to the mind.

moderation. don't stand in line for those goodies on Black Friday, practice discipline and moderation, breathe, meditate, focus on yourself and live a clean life. That's the beginning of the path to the top in my opinion. And it's a really difficult path.

There are mantras in the western tradition. Specially the western esoteric tradition but is mostly concerned with physical goals and not with enlightment.
