Great video for a fixed lens camcorder and the NDI functionality of my cams is invaluable (though I find it tremendously annoying that I can't stream ndi and record to SD at the same time. Meh)
Yes indeed, I guess it is down to available resource internally but it would be nice.
Hi there. First of all thank you very much for this great video (and the former one with your comments on the cx350). I have bought a second hand cx350 (with only 400 working hours and nearly mint condition) just recently (October 14, 2023) for just below 2000 USD, so I think that was a bargain. I have the last firmware update and so I see face detect in the menu (and I installed it as you said, on user 'button' 10). Though I think that I set all the right settings to where you advised us to set it, still I don't seem to get any mention of the face detection in my display, nor do I see the rectangles, not in auto modus, nor in manual modus. I did chose 'spark' as color filter, and I see "spark" in the display, but the face detect option never appeared there. What did I miss? Thank you so much for helping me out on this. Thank you for your comments, you have a great camera and I’m sure it will gives you years of good service. The most common reason I see for this is often that AREA mode is selected in the menu and this prevents face detect from activating. There are about three or four things that must be switched off to allow face detect to operate or you get the invalid message. I’m not by my camera at the moment, but the video has a list of them and you really need to check through all the menus carefully to make sure none of them are enabled. If you see AREA anywhere on your LCD screen, then face detect won’t work. Let me know if you find it and get it working or if you are still stuck. also, if you are on Facebook to check out our CX 350 user group.
@@apntv thank you so much for the quick answer. I thought that I really followed every step of your great video and I don't see AREA in the display, only SPARK, but I will surely investigate further. Hi! Can you tell me, please, if this camcorder relevant in 2023 or there are some better and newer models (maybe from other brands) for it's price out there?
I'm now browsing a market to find a camcorder for my work - I'm a journalist so it will be used for some "run & gun" shooting and often for recording meetings.

Hi, the CX350 is now four years old, however I still don’t see anything on the market that would make me want to change and if I needed a new camera, I already have four of them, I would probably still buy another. That said you should look at the x20 or even the X2 from Panasonic, which is basically a CX350 in a UX180 body and only lacks some of the high-end broadcast Codecs like AVC intra. Check carefully that the codecs you need for your work are included and if you need SDI output or not, but it may save you a few hundred pounds for an almost identical camera. Other manufacturers I don’t really have a handle on at the moment, last time I looked Sony and Canon variants were a lot more expensive for much the same spec. I hope that helps.

Hi... still got an issue with face detect activation. I followed all your settings and Face Detect is still invalid. Don"t know what to do. Software version is 7.11. Do you have any idea what to do next?
I’d like to see some pictures of your LCD screen when you try to activate it, clearly you can’t post pictures in here. Are you in the CX350 Facebook group? If so it would be great to post this in there where we can look deeper into what’s going on.
@@apntv I finally did it! I need to turn off the AF Area Width. That was the solution..:-) Now the Face Detect and Tracking works fine. :-) I hope this info would help someone in the future...

Is this a good buy, when X2 is now available?
I’d say yes but it does depend on what you need, they are basically the same camera but the 350 has some higher end codecs like P2, 400Mbps All-I broadcast codecs, check the specs. If you don’t need those extra features, the X2 should be a bit cheaper. I think the X2 has a slightly better monitor too.
@APNTV Thank you. I am interested in event live streaming and recording and I was also hoping that X2 might also have better image processing as it is 3 years new? Any feedback comparing low light footage between 350 and X2?
@@at906 I have not had the opportunity to try an X2 however my understanding is that the sensor etc. is the same as the CX350. I use my cameras for event work, conferences, performances etc. I have found the low light performance to be ok for my needs, your own experience may of course differ. There are a few examples on my channel, my current showreel for example shows a number of live performance events.
I just ordered one and will keep you posted. I don't have any other camcorder. But, do have a Nikon D500 and D750 that can do video to compare to.
