I bought a book you wrote when I became interested. One of your videos demonstrated using a toothpick so that's how I began learning to see if I'd enjoy this craft before I bought materials. I love quilling and I've had to learn tension because my first coils were too tight to unwind. Now I'm working on the creative part to develop my own unique designs and your videos inspire ideas. Thank you.
That's wonderful to hear you're enjoying quilling Janice Janice! Ah yes tight tension - ok, maybe I'll make a video about how to handle that one day. Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊
I prefer the slotted tool personally as I find it has more control and is much more simple to use. I don't waste my needle tool though so before I had a smaller glue bottle with a needle end, I would put glue on a piece of paper and put glue on the quilling paper using the needle tool. Amazing and clear video. ✨💛
Omg.. when I saw the green quilling tool I said that looks like what I have then you showed the book. I'm of to a good start..🤗 I bought this for my daughter over 15 years ago😮
Yay!!! I'm thrilled to hear that Kitty Kat! This is the first time I filmed in 4K quality and I was so amazed to be able to zoom in better so I can show everyone up close. Thanks for making my day! 😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just could not seem to get rolling with the needle. I kept trying to roll the handle 🙃 Happy to have been able to find out how to use it correctly.
Yes :)))) I have very dry skin and needles will never work this way, so I have a moist cloth next to me when I'm quilling and will just tip my hand slightly against it if the needle won't work. Your advice is gorgeous :)
Thank you so much for this wonderful explanation, and the quality of the video is incontestably good. I was trying so hard to roll with the needle tool, I found your video and now I can do it! As a beginner, I prefer using the slotted tool because it is so much easier to roll, and I can control how much pressure I apply while rolling. But for sure the finish product of the needle tool is so great and would be a great achievement to feel comfortable with that. However, I find it is very hard to apply the same pressure and it doesnt stay tight, problably needs years of practice ;)
Yay! That’s wonderful to hear @musicTime! I’m always happy when I hear someone has achieved a new level in their quilling practice. The key word here is practice. I’ve been doing this for over 10 years so I know I make it look easy, but if we remember we have to learn to crawl before we can run, then we can remember to have patience with ourselves and simply keep practicing, and then you’ll be running with me!
I always wondered about the flowers! How cute! The strip you were using for the flower looked muck more narrow than toward the part where the fringing started. Am I right about that?
Hi Carol, that's right. The narrow part is where I get started, and after it's coiled, it represents the innermost part of a flower, where the stamens are. I suggest watching my Fringed Flowers series to learn more about making them. They are addictive!!! Here is the first one: ua-cam.com/video/pJFGDsvd6bA/v-deo.html
I’m excited to learn. Thank you! When I first began quilling, I used a toothpick! That was many years ago. I tend to use the slotted tool only because I need to practice more with the needle tool.

Hi Sirisha, my green slotted quilling tool came from a book called Twirled Paper. That was my first quilling book and came with the tool, paper, glue, googly eyes, and patterns. Here's an Amazon affiliate link: www.amazon.com/dp/0545459915/?ref=exp_paperzen-cecelialouie_dp_vv_d

Thanks so much!!! 😁 I’ve used my needle tool as a glue applicator too. I still love my slotted tool - I’ll never put it away.
Until recently I mainly used the slotted tool. Now have got to grips with the needle tool I much prefer it. A very useful video, thank you.

I have also seen needle used and they slide down to needle base every now and then to keep coil even
Ah yes that’s a great way too!

Mam, what is the name of the green colour quilling needle?

Hi do you have a video that talks about the difference paper sizes?
Hello Noemi, I made one about different types of paper here, but if I didn’t answer your question in the video, please let me know and I’ll try to make another one to answer it. ua-cam.com/video/Lq_oHsARmU0/v-deo.html
Instead of needle tool I like to use my bare fingers IDK why but I enjoy it more 😝
That’s great too! I’ve seen others do that too but I guess I’m just used to using my beloved needle tool now.
