- More Recent Thrift Store Records To Show ! Six Or So Records Are From A Second Hand Store.. "Somewhere In Time" Mid-Town Reno, Nevada. Thanks For Watching !
Only to be a fly on the wall while your mom and Peggy Lee have drinks... what a story!!! 🙌🙌
Love that story from my Mom. I would press my Mom a bit to get all of the details.. Peggy waited for my Mom while she changed.. my Mother probably had a fruit basket on her head for the show! Haha.. Carmen Miranda style.. so she couldn't go dressed in costume. I have her show biz trunk.. love looking through it. Thanks Marcus !
Incredible finds giant steps is awesome
Definitely.. got lucky a lot, back then, and still, sometimes.
Strange Days has one of my favourite Doors songs…’When The Music’s Over’…Thanks for the show Jt.
That's about my favorite Doors songs.." Turn Out The Lights "..Turn Out The Lights. Yeah " Thanks Harry !
Wow some cool pick ups! Thumbs up! Trish
Hey Trish !! Good to have you in my house !! Heh heh.. Thanks for watching.. will check in with you soon..
Nice pick ups JT. I've been gone on a camping trip for a week & just now getting to catch up on my watching. Croche was taken way to early. Ah...Rita Coolidge. You are correct she rarely gets any attention in the vc. Lightfoot is a great writer & singer. Tried to see him a few years back but was unable to do so because of other commitments. Very clean copies of Strange Days & Deguello. Most ZZtop I run across have been abused. WHAT??? Coltrane for 25 cents. Amazing. Great haul & Happy Easter.
Yes ! Happy Easter, and thanks for watching, and commenting on my thrift finds. G Lightfoot has a pretty good video from here in Reno on UA-cam.. good venue too !
Hi JT!! cool finds, you get awesome records.... Nice Rita Coolidge aditional info, never heard of her before but loved the "extra data"..... Killer ZZ Top records, it's near mint!!! cheers and be well
Yes !! Deguello.. what a word.. right Amigo ! History is brutal from all sides of the world ! Anyway.. love that album.. Tres Hombres is my number#1.. Thanks Cristian.
Wow, I never saw that Croce album. I also was bummed in the 4th grade when he passed away. I even wrote the date of his death in my copy of "Life and Times". He use to live here in SD and his wife ran a restaurant called "Croce's" downtown and his son A.J. would perform. Sadly it closed down. Wow Rita Coolidge! Gordon in shrinkwrap.. The Pony Man is my favorite on that lp besides the title track. You got some cool finds today. Always love watching what you find.
I know.. I worked next door at " LA Strada" on the corner of Broadway and 5th ! Back in 1999..RitchieBlue.. our Harp Player gigged there with his other Swing Band ( At Croce's).. Thanks for watching again ! I lived on 29th and Juniper in South Park..
Cool stuff JT. The last thing I expected to see was Mungo Jerry, but there it is. In The Summertime was huge in 1970. A different Jim Croce record too...have never seen that one before. Very cool. Great ZZ Top album!!!! Awesome finds once again.
Thanks Rich ! Wait till next week.. unusual mix of .99 cent records.. 20 records and 2 Cd's for 15.75 with a 10% off coupon ! Salvation Army. Scored these 2 hours ago..
Its Spinal Tap then puppet show on the marquee. Nice to have a callback to Spinal Tab in this episode. Strange Days by the Doors has always been a favorite
I'm so pleased with that " Strange Days".. David. the owner had a bag full of records to look at.. I kept a good poker face when I picked The Doors album..
I did not know that Rita wrote the coda for Layla!! That is my favorite part of the song. Just gorgeous. What a great Peggy Lee cover!! "In My Tribe" is flawless!!! Natalie's lyrics are so amazing. "The Hurting" is my favorite Tears For Fears release. WOW - You really scored this week. All of the albums are up there with some of my favorites of all time. "Blind Mans Zoo" is another classic. I'm dying!! "Giant Steps" for .25?? I think it is earlier than an 80's issue as it does not have a UPC on the back. I would guess 1975 or 76. Flawless. Great finds, Jt
Think you are right.. maybe 1974.. because that Atlantic label was used most around that time... Mom was so impressed with hanging with Peggy Lee. I was careful to get these stories right.. otherwise my Mom would have been pissed ! No kidding ! She was a sweetheart though, and the best Mom ever !
The stars were aligned this last few weeks !! Thanks Mark..
Jim Croce brings back memories. His records were staples in my house when I grew up and, unlike ABBA, I can still listen to him, I was about to write that I can't believe you found Spinal Tap in a thrift shop, and then John Coltrane! That's too cool. Incredible bunch of records.
Thanks ! I still have many more that I have never shown ! I think ? I do this by memory..that is choose the records from racks, and boxes.. at work, everything is memorized.. hand written everything !
Thanks Brian.. the Spinal Tap was crazy to find.. ( 6 months ago, or so ).
Rita Coolidge is beautiful!! I never knew she was a Tennessee girl ✌️
Yah Man !! Just North East of Nashville, I found out. Delaney And Bonnie discovered her.. that's how she ended up in LA singing with all of the greats ( West Coast ) artists.
Yes and the Leon Russell song was about her "Delta Lady"! A cool story that is on youtube! Search it!
@@primeanalogrecords I will watch it.. I was a big fan of " Mad Dogs And Englishmen .. first heard it in 1970.. I was 13, and my older sister had it ! Leon's debut without Marc Benno had " Delta Lady" on it ! Thanks. again, I want to watch, I love that era of West Coast Hippie Rock ! That's how I grew up. hair and all ! Heh heh..
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Me too!!!
Wish I had a Thrift store that had great albums like the ones you find, nothing but junk around my house.
Hey Gary ! Well it's a lot of work.. driving, and a need of good timing, and luck, even here. Usually there is nothing at all .. try after try. Cd's are what I buy when I strike out on records.. I'm gonna go try again, tomorrow ! Thanks for watching..
Morning Jt👋🏻☕️....you said it well about Jim Croce🙏🏻🙏🏻Love Gordy.....always bringing interesting info w your finds ...thank you Jt. Hoping all is well w you and your family✊🏻🎶- Lis 🎶😎🎶
Love your sweet messages.. yes. all is good with my little family, the three of us ! So busy.. gonna take it easy, today ! Cool beans Lis.. checking in with you now..
You always find some epic deals bro
I do try !
I need to get some Rita! Very good scores!
She is great ! I'm starting to upgrade the first 4 LP's.. in my opinion.. her best ! Thanks !
Good finds JT. The Charlie Daniels debut nice find along with the other and all the pickups as usual. Charlie I got to see twice back in the 70's. At the first of two someone was trying to sneak into the arena and was on the roof and got electrocuted up there. I don't know if he lived but dumb to get up on the roof anyway. The other concert was scheduled for one arena but was changed for another venue that day. So the ticket stub has the one venue on it and to write venue of where it was held at for this other show. Both great Charlie Daniels band shows. TC 👍🎶
What a great story.. love it ! Charlie Daniel's was fantastic.. I love all Southern, and Country Rock ! What town was this in ?
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Dayton OH.
@@thedarkwizardroom Nice ! Gary's Physical Format Rock and Roll isn't too far from you.. I think ?
Nice new honey hole. I have been looking for that TFF album, use to be easy to find but not anymore. Also a clean copy of Deguelo is very cool. 2 great albums
Things were drying up here a bit, or rather it takes effort to get out there, and really look. Good to find a new source.. going back tomorrow... Thanks Steve !
I love the song "Mad World" from The Hurting. That looks like a pretty nice copy of that.
I always liked 10,000 Maniacs with Natalie Merchant.
Blow by Blow is great. I saw Jeff Beck about 10 years ago on a whim. He was playing a theater by me and knew who he was but didn't know much alot of his music. Was a great show. He only played about an hour but it was still a great show.
How cool to have seen Jeff Beck on a whim !! Good thing you did Kevin.. Thanks for watching again !
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Yeah I actually had to drag a buddy of mine to it. It was great to see him play, since then I have gotten more into his stuff. Love "Truth."
Love your stories. Usually can find Ms Lee for $1. Buy if pristine
True.. other releases are more ! Acoustic Sounds has two or so.. She like do many jazz/ pop singers.. sound better with a trio.. without all of the heavy production ( strings ). Just scored a 20 record haul.. .99 cents at Salvation Army, today.. point being, one of two Cd's that I bought is Tony Bennett from 1995.. Jazz trio only.. Killer !!!
@@jtsrecordroom3963 thrift stores around here are getting high and mighty. I walked out of one the other
Day after I picked through couple of stacked uncared for lp’s. They no more cared about them at all.
Mistake on my part before I looked was asking the price. They wanted $10 a record. Half of these should
Have been tossed. Needlessly to say I left 20ish records and walked out without saying anything. My
Only regret was that I didn’t buy two of them. Bill Haley and The Searchers. I knew my labels so I wasn’t
Missing out on anything . Just the principle of it. And if you had seen the store you might have been afraid
To look. Junk everywhere
@@jtsrecordroom3963 did get a Paul Evans on Carlton. I figure you/mom might have know him. For zero. It was eleven cents
She took the money out of the change drawer. Lol
@@greghawkins229 Pretty sure she didn't cross paths with him.. she did work NYC.. but he is a little after the era of Sammy, Mel Torme, Durante, Billie Holiday.. early 50's entertainers. He is a jazz guy, right ? But also did pop music, I think in the late 50's. By then, my Mom was a on the Chorus Line of The New Desert Inn Hotel In Las Vegas.. then on to Reno, where I was born in 1957. She stayed here until she passed in 2013. I have her show trunk, so I can see almost everyone she worked with.. Thanks for that Greg..
Another lucky bunch, great mix in your findings and the last one, holy cow, lucky bum you are!
I am a Bum !! My wife tells me that all the time ! Haha. Joking aside.. that was one of my best, ever, and I have found tons of thrift records through the years..
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Haha there you see, so do my wife tell me aswell. Well im not so lucky, but from time to time I do some, but so far not as good as yours.
@@popsandclicks Good to hear that you are happily married like me ! We are 18 years.. 10 years married when she was ready for a baby.. Sean just turned 8..
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Great things, we have been together for 20 years now. Time just fly! Amazing!
Who cited her as his "Delta Lady" was Leon Russell! They were a thing traveling around in a van back in the day!!!
That's right.. Delaney And Bonnie discovered her.. she came to LA.. and sung back up for all of them ! Stepen, Graham. Leon, Joe Cocker, Dave Mason.. on " Alone Together".. Thanks for that.. glad you know about this rich " West Coast Sound" history.. Cheers !
That Jeff Beck blow by blow is a great album. Jeff Beck is The Goat in my eyes and then Eric Johnson to be the very best to ever play the guitar. I saw Beck about 11 or 12 years. Just phenomenal
Beck really is "The Master" !! Agreed .. Eric Johnson, amazing.. Robben Ford too ! I met him.. he came in for dinner, and I recognized him immediately.. sat him down, had good conversation ( he was playing locally that night )
@@jtsrecordroom3963 oh man that's awesome you got to meet him. About Beck again what's really amazing he says he'll got months without ever playing too. He'll just work on cars
@@KcEverythingg Right ! Guys like him, at that level.. its good to lay it down for awhile.. when he comes back to his instrument.. he's fresh, and ready to go !!
I’m gonna have to move to Reno for the record finds
You might have to !! Heh heh.. I'd go out hunting with you ! This may look easy.. its not ! Sometimes easier than others .. Thanks !
Hi Jt, great information about Rita, didn’t know any of that. The Tap…..gotta love them. That was a great pick up. Gordon Lightfoot very underrated in UK. I just love that 10,000 Manics artwork, great covers. That’s interesting, I picked up The Hurting the other day and the artwork is very different between US version and UK version. Good album. Hey Jt, I saw Jeff Beck come on stage at a Rolling Stones gig in London and join them for a few songs. I love Keef and Ronnie but to be honest when Beck played it just lifted the music through the roof, and as I say I love The Stones, but Beck was awesome. Great finds! Mike
Another thing about Rita. Delaney And Bonnie discovered her.. that's how she started singing backing vocals for all of the L.A. greats that I mentioned.
It's funny.. on the US Cd.. the artwork is the same as the UK cover.. I think.. ( White cover ). To see Jeff Beck would be historic.. I never have !
Hi JT. I really need to go thrifting in Reno! John Coltrane in a charity shop? I have never, found any Coltrane in a charity shop and don't expect to. I didn't realise that Tap's black album was actually given a release. I have that Gordon Lightfoot record. I have the hurting lp but a different cover here in the u.k. I've never come across any Doors in a charity shop ( apart from the ones to go in and out of !). Some great finds JT, as usual! Enjoy 😊👍
Hey Mark ! That Doors was at a 2nd Hand Store.. the owner, David brought in a grocery bag full of records. I left behind several.. 4.00 each on these that I picked. No kidding.. if you were ever on Holiday over here, be sure to let me know ! Cheers.
Really enjoyed listening to your anecdote about your mother meeting Peggy Lee. Was your mother a recording artist at all or someone who would predominately perform in concerts?
Some excellent pick-ups here JT, always great to see an excellent condition Doors album! Excellent video sir
She was a dancer/ chorus girl that worked with Sanmmy Davis, Mel Torme, Jimmy Durante, Danny Thomas, Mickey Rooney, Johnny Ray.. many others.. back in the early 50's you had revues.. with ,lets say, a comedian, then the chorus line.. then the headliner. Usually the chorus line performed 3 different times each evening ! Billie Holiday, and Sammy were my Mom's favorite entertainers to meet. and work with.. thanks for asking !
♥️♥️♥️
Thanks Michele !!
How bout those hip huggers on Rita? Spinal Tap was a hilarious and sometimes sad movie. Great story with Peggy Lee and your mom. Nice score with the ZZ Top! I just bought a nice copy of that for my brother in law. I’m a big fan of Jeff Beck. Blow by Blow was the first solo album of his I ever bought. I’m amazed at how often you can find it fairly cheap. It’s a great record. Oh Strange Days is fantastic. What a nice copy! More great finds. Take care John✌🏻
I told that story for you.. pretty much ! I always liked that one from my Mom. If I ever got any of this info wrong.. she would let me have it ! Seriously So.. I would press her often, with questions about all of these entertainers that she worked, and toured with..
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Those stories are priceless
@@vikingbrace Thanks ! Mom always said how stunning, and classy Pee Lee was ( 32 yrs old at that time ).. she got heavier in the late 1960's. But evidently in 1952.. she was a total knockout according to Mom !
I like it when you guys call me by my name ! And those hip huggers on Rita are cool ! She sang with a woman named Claudia Lennear.. very sexy.. they both toured as back up for Jie Cocker, Steve Stills, Hendrix in the studio. and Leon Russell.. also George Harrison for " Bangeladesh "..
When you have time.. check out Claudia Lennear with Joe Cocker Mad Dogs And Englishmen " UA-cam.. That's Rita's friend..
Hi Jt. If I meet someone who doesn't at least like "Bad Bad Leroy Brown", I don't fully trust them. LOL! I just found out today that Rita Coolidge is Booker T's wife Priscilla's sister... small world. Cool Spinal Tap OST. Excellent ZZ Top as well, I don't have that one yet. Terrific Jeff Beck LP. He's a stupendous player. I think he sometimes doesn't get his due is because he's kind of a-hole. Either way, he's a genius. I would have had the same reaction finding Coltrane at a thrift store. Good stuff. Thanks and have a good one. Cheers!
Cool Chris ! You nailed it with " The Badest Man In The Whole Damn Town " Interesting about Rita and Booker T... he used to live in Mendocino in the mid 1970's.. Bonnie Raitt, Gene Clark, and Gene Parsons too..
I heard that about Beck... genius he is !!
Love Deguello by ZZ Top and to think they redid Frank Beards tracks with trendy synth drums for a revamped 80 version of the album is beyond belief...good clip
I remember that now ! So wrong.. great songs.. didn't need any embellishments.. just Dusty. Frank, And Billy !!!
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Agree 100%
Missing Rita’s first record and Nautilus of Anytime… Anywhere
Yep.. me too ! I have " Anytime Anywhere".. but want a cleaner copy..
Hey Jt, the thrift store God himself! You always find some of the best stuff and I've got to figure out how to get to Reno someday to find some of that vinyl gold. Don't worry, it's a long ways away from here, but most of my family lives out west, so you never know....Love Rita Coolidge and Kris Kristofferson's duet albums. I'm not a big Charlie Daniels fan, but having a sealed copy of his first record is quite cool. Love The Hurting album too, and "Deguello" is my 2nd favorite ZZ Top album (next to Tres Hombres). I'm so happy to hear someone else loves it as much as I do as most people tend to ignore that one for some reason. Yeeehaw....John Coltrane in the thrift store? I probably would have passed out, especially that album. I love Giant Steps, but don't have it on vinyl. Amazing. Great video Jt, as always!
Thanks TCat !! Tuco The Vinyl Hunter does really well.. have you seen his channel ? We agree on " Deguello" such a solid record !
That's why I acted out.. " The skies parting, and the vinyl angels singing !! Haha..when I pulled that sealed " Giant Stteps" out if that huge rack of nothingness ! Wow ! And .25 cents ! ( 10 years ago )..
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Yes I watch everyone of his thrift store videos and I should visit Omaha and surrounding areas on the way over across I-80 to Reno. LOL Love his channel too.
Charlie DANIELS was an awesome individual. Do not have first record. Envious. Have almost all of his catalogue
I can't agree more ! A great man, and musician ! One of the very best.. Thanks for that Greg.
We just don’t have the equivalent to thrift stores over here. St Vinnies maybe, but if they even have records they’re either crap or in terrible condition. Great stuff 👍
Thanks Ben.. that's what I heard about Australia all over.. I think you are in Victoria.. then, New South Wales, Queensland.. Same report.. no Charity Shops.. funny my favorite Thrift Store here in Reno.. is St. Vinnies ( St. Vincent's)..
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Yep in Vic 👍
Wow!! I’ve never come across John Coltrane records at thrift shops. That’s amazing! I just recently picked up Strange Days, too. I had to pay up for it, though. Great finds.
Thanks Nathan.. actually found one more about 6 months ago.." Coltraine's Sound" Cool thing that we both bought " Strange Days" recently.. mine was last Tuesday.. I'm going back there again, tomorrow!! Cheers, and thanks for watching !
Wow your having snow today in lower state New York it was about 64 degrees . on the way into the grocery store about an hour ago
I saw somebody in shorts.
so your getting snow !
nice Jim Croce , Greatest , nice Gordon Lightfoot , Charlie Daniel's , Tears for Fears, ZZ Top Degiello , Jeff Beck , Charlie Daniels , nice Doors ,
was he from the Pensylvina side or the New Jersey side like Camden that part Atlantic city?
nice artwork on Spinal tap, Does Charlie Daniels have any other hits besides the devil went down to Georgia?
is that Tears for fears their new album or their debut I would guess 1982 or 83? The Doors released their self title in 1967 are you sure Strange days is 1967? sometimes on the backs of albums they have one year written down then in a magazine they have a different or on a different format they have a different year. example vinyl Kiss st they have 1973 on cd they have 1974. are you sure that Doors is 1967?
That Tears For Fears is their debut from 1983, and Charlie Daniel's has some other hits.." The South's Gonna Do It Again".. and Uneasy Rider" are both really great songs !
Are you sure your name is Mark !! LOL !!..Yes I am sure The Doors " Strange Days" is 1967. In an alternate universe 1967 could be a different time and space, but here on Earth... yes, 1967 ! You are a New Yorker right ? So I can bust your chops a little.. just kidding around. alright . Many of my good friends that moved out here are East Coast, and mostly New York, so I learned long ago.. they were only " busting my chops" !!
The Doors " Strange Days" recorded May 1967... released September 1967. The best way is just to... look it up.
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Yes i'm a New Yorker .
@@jtsrecordroom3963 so then they released 2 albums that year..
