My dad, Syd Garswood worked there from the late 1940s until the mid 70s, when he left on voluntary redundancy. He worked maintaining the pumps in his later
    years there.

I visited Hapton Valley with my Dad shortly before the pit closed. It was great to be able to see where my Dad worked and how hard miners had to work. It wasn't easy. I was glad that I only had to go down there once but my visit was well worth it

All seems very underhand and typical obfuscation by the powers to be - I am new to watching your videos and thank you for sharing them - I was a 10 year old in 1966 living in Hargher Clough - We made swings from the old water hoses to swing across the river valley at the pit at Hapton and swam in the river heated by the discharge of the pit baths! Many fond memories

I remember flying pickets on news in 84 and it had already closed. Me mother used to clean in evening and we would walk here down billington road at side of cemetary. My bro even got to go down shaft. Is it still a lorry scrap yard? We live in cornwall now so havent seen it for years

@@christineoutterside2980yeh Saw Brian around Easter he did a slide show st the museum. Im in regular touch with Phil Huddleston as well. Nice to hear from you.
I remember spending a day in surveyor office back in 1979 whist still at school and was allowed to trace the abandonment plans out of the big book with the 6 inch maps. Lue printed me off a map of Crawshawbooth and U traced them on to it.
I had it untill 3 years ago when we got a pup and a new kitten.. came home to find the map in shreds...it was kike a family heirloom.....still have the tracings on a big roll of tracing paper
