Great review! I’ve got 100% success with this head (175 solid)...so far 6 deer down and counting with this head all recovered in under 50 yds! It’s my go to head!!!
I used these heads and had good luck with them until one of the blades folded over! I don’t know if it was just a fluke because it only happened one time. I emailed them about it and they ask for some pictures of the head and 4 days later they sent me 3 new ones in the mail. I don’t know of any other company that would of done that. Everything has a failure point and there is always flukes in everything. I now use Iron Will solid but these are great heads.
Thanks for sharing that. The vented blades are not quite as strong as the solid vanes. But on a hard bone impact at certain angles, anything can happen with any head.
Shot a bear this spring with xo solid out of bowtech sx80. Victory rip ss 535 gr arrows. Entry wound was the size of a baseball and exit was about 2x size of broadhead. Shoots really good. Shot at 52 yards. Bear ran about 15 yards. Complete pass through. Broadhead looked brand new. Highly recommend
Very nicely done video and real world broadhead testing for sure! I'm a big fan of fixed heads, and have had great success with my crossbows using the MAGNUS Black Hornets both serrated and plain edge. I'd love to see you test these blades from a 400 FPS crossbow.

@@FlyinZX10R they didn't work. I ended up using Mega Meats. The fixed blades just wouldn't fly consistent. I'm not a big expandable guy, but I ended up killing an 8 pointer with the Mega's and they put a huge hole in that buck.
Not a fan of their sharpener. I wish Stay Sharp still made their’s. Maybe TOTA could strike a deal with Stay Sharp and bring back that sharpener. Thank you for the most thorough and comprehensive broadhead tests available. Keep up the great work!!
This has me sold enough to try em out just ordered a pack. I’m gonna shoot them with my old Hoyt Raider that I keep around for sentimental reasons. These on my old aluminum 2219s should be a heavyweight meat missile. Right now I’m shooting thunderhead magnums (170gr) but if these work as good as I think I’ll change to them for good. Yeah, sometimes I sharpen them a bit more on a thin stone. But they've always done well for me. I once shot three hogs in one day with the same head and did not resharpen it in between--all pass thrus.

I like the tip design. I think that will be much more robust than normal tree blades where there is the same angle all the way to the tip making the tip very narrow and fragile. While on this one the tip has a much wider angle making it more robust to hard impacts kind of like how a axe has a wider angle bevel than a knife because the axe is designed for impacts.
I really wish I could get my Tooth of the Arrow XL 100grains to fly right. Not having great success with getting them to group or fly well. I know it's not the broadhead, but something with the bow or the arrow selection. Local bow shop keeps telling me that some broadheads just won't fly right out of some bows. Ugh.
Yeah, the local shop is just not wanting to spend the time to help get your bow all tuned up well. And I don't fault them for that, they have a lot on their plates. But I will say, the XLs, with their extra surface area, are not as forgiving as the 1" size. I have a very well tuned bow and 20% FOC and use helical vanes, so that all helps.
I started using the 125 gr XL after a second mechanical head failure. 3 for 3 on deer so far with these, with pass thrus on all 3. First at < 20 yards broadside (buck, barely flinched took 2 steps and dropped). Next, 1/4ing away at 35 yards (buck, busted the last rib on entrance side exited in front of opposing shoulder). Third, 1/4ing to at approximately 20 yards (doe, chipped bone on the front of the shoulder exited just in front of the opposing hip)... complete confidence in this broadhead independent of the angle (within reason of course).
Used the smaller one when they first came out shot a 9 pointer perfect shot buck jumped like a mule ran off about 20 yrds and stood there and walked off no blood trail what so ever the arrow was bloody needles to say not a fan same thing happened with the annihilator broadheads great penetration broadheads but no blood trails
Thanks for sharing that Ace. Blood trails are 90% shot placement...but even then, whether the animals lungs are inflated or deflated makes a big difference; as well as each animal's individual anatomy and the way they move at the exact point of impact. Either way, you know you are cutting 2" of tissue right thru an animal if the broadhead doesn't break into pieces--the rest is shot placement, anatomy, and movement after the shot.
I'm using the vented xl's currently and they fly great tested out to 40 yards!!! I use a tenpoint viper s400 and with my arrow set up I'm shooting around 370 fps
I mentioned this in other videos previously: I find it totally misleading to use the holes in steel to benchmark the BH "wound channel capability" - the way the steel bends on impact is IMO in no way comparable with softer tissue. Just have a look of the "wound channel" @4:28 when shot through cardboard: a total different picture; of course also the later one is not representing the BH's real wound channel capability - the gel might be still be the best indicator for the wound channel, hence I wonder why you don't show the "wound channel" there?
Thanks for pointing that out again. I appreciate your thoughts. But it is what it is. Why do different heads make different holes in a static medium like steel? I believe it is an indication of how it performs on an animal--not a perfect indication, but definitely noteworthy. In gel, even the Clear Ballistics gel, it is difficult to see a clear "cut out" like you can see in steel. In many of the animals I've shot with the Exodus and TOTA, I've seen that exact wound channel--a triangular hole or square hole in the hide, as opposed to 3 or 4 slits. It's not so clear in every animal shot, as there are so many other variables, but there is definitely something there--more "tissue" is being displaced by the thicker ferrule and broader tips, similar to what the Annihilator does.
Well, I loved doing that, but some people wanted to see a more realistic test--2 broadheads and 1 field point at 40 yds, to see how they group. That's why I started doing that in 2021.
Why 72 lbs make you feel manly man God didn't make all of us so manly I shoot like 56 lbs but my arrows and broadheads are efficient so don't take much

Thanks Derek. TOTA wanted to do that with Stay Sharp, but it wasn't really worth it for Stay Sharp, cause the revenue margin is so small.
With those sharpening stones, best to go forwards. Reduces the size of the burr. You can also strop it later.

Like any short, wide broadhead, you don't want to take a super extreme angled shot. But at 30 degrees or greater, they do fine.

Would u recommend for traditional bow hunting? I hunt with a 52# long bow pushing arrow mid 170 FPS with my current 150-175 grain head
They can certainly get the job done...but I've not tested them with trad gear. Shorter heads penetrate more effectively than most people think.
I bought their sharpener and i couldnt get the heads sharp . Heads fly great I no longer hunt with their heads .

I shot a does with these last year and the blood trail was unbelievable spewing out both sides she dropped within 30 yards
