i feel bad about the movies and shows i didn't discuss/describe in detail but just know that they're all good even when i couldn't find the words to express it
We Are Lady Parts and Reservation Dogs sound so interesting and it’s just exciting to see shows focusing on people we don’t see much of in western media! Thank you for introducing them to me, I never heard of either til now!
I think part of the magic of Reservation Dogs is how it balanced comedy and sadness. Not only is it showing life on the res for native americas but it also never never feels awkward when you go from a funny seen to a sad seen that feels very real
Encanto is my favorite film of this year. I’ve never seen a film on intergenerational trauma done so well without demonizing any of the characters/family members and encouraging healing through forgiveness, acceptance, and communication. Plus the diversity of the film was beautiful.
Movies: Pig One for the Road Summer of Soul (... Or when the revolution could not be televised) Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy Drive My Car Zola There is no evil Velvet Underground: A Todd Haynes Documentary Sweet Thing TV Shows: We are Lady Parts Only Murders in the Building Reservation Dogs It's a sin I told the sunset about you Blindspotting Magician on the sidewalk
We Are Lady Parts is amazing! My dad has been having a really rough time and has struggled finding joy in normal past times but he said We Are Lady Parts made him so happy and properly laugh x
I like how Reservation Dogs didn’t oversexualize any of the characters, especially the two female leads. The relationships in the show were mostly platonic, and that’s rare in media involving teenage hijinks. They were just Teenagers going through the rough patches in life, but sex was an afterthought for them. Also, none of them were SA’d and k***** which are HUGE issue in American Indian communities. I feel Sam Levinson, the “creator” of Euphoria, should take notes from Reservation Dogs to better understand how teenagers “teenage” these days.
Only Murders in the Building is totally one of those shows where if you told me last year that Selina Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short would come together as one of the best comedy teams ever I would have had you checked for drug abuse. It was addictive and funny. Hope they do another season. Wrote down a lot of the other movies a lot of movies and shows you suggested. Can't wait to check them out. Great video.
As a musician who loves Santigold (the artist and record) I'd love to hear you talk about them. So much of music is about how it feels and the formalistic video essays a lot of the time forget that.
Also my sister was on my ass about watching only murders in the building and I was putting it off cuz a certain artiste in the show is not my fav hehe but if you also love it I might give it a chance 😌💖
I’m so glad your channel is up again. Idk why it wasn’t here either for technical or personal reasons (I don’t really follow social media so I wouldn’t know if anything happened there) but either way I’m just glad to have your vids available again. I found out things were amiss just cause I was sitting on the couch one day and really wanted to rewatch one of your videos. I’m not your mom and I don’t want you to get burnt out or feel crappy… but if you get tired of social media please leave things up if you’re ever on the fence about it. Even if you quit things tomorrow or somethin’ the stuff you’ve already made is great.
4:40 is like good indication really of how good Encanto was. it is just immensely amazing and definitely appreciated. there is so much to say about it (good stuff) but also one thing to summarize that feeling and that is that it's a masterpiece.
Worst Of lists are my guilty pleasure, even if it's about things I don't follow, so it's real nice to see people focus on talking about the things they liked instead.
i got in so many arguments about we are ladyparts online because i as a muslim women, loved it, but a lot of other muslims didn't so lotta debate happened lmao, it was interesting. also i literally forgot about the second season of itsay, i have yet to watch it, even though season one was a masterpiece, by the time s2 came around i never got to it damn, i should get on that at some point
Ugh I TOLD SUNSET ABOUT YOU is so good all last year during the pandemic I sat down and rewatched it a unhealthy amount of times and bawled my eyes out. The soundtrack is so good too. A total recommend.
One of the things I really enjoyed this past 365 years was.. you! I loved your content, I loved your approach to the subjects you chose and I loved listening to you deep dive into topics I normally wouldn't even notice myself in movies/media. I hope you rest well and thank you for the videos you gave us.
These are some amazing recommendations but lately I’ve been struggling to find movies that fit my tastes not based off everyone else. It’s so complicated to choose a movie/ tv show with everyone shoving down their faves in your throat. Edit: I wanna choose my movies like I choose my music, for my tastes and my taste alone.
understandable, i usually try to avoid end-of-the-year favorites/best of lists until i’ve figured out what my favorites are. that way other people’s recommendations are just that, you know?
@@Yharazayd that actually seems sensible and also your able to hum and haw your decisions over instead of saying something like "hey guys Invincible is a masterpiece and you should all watch it right now" that's sort of ironic because I love that show I was just trying to use a popular thing as an example. Also one film I'm dying to watch that came out this year was called Last Night in Soho and its a horror film that browsing through your channel looks like it could be to your taste. (I'll let u go into it blind if you've not seen any trailers and is your first time hearing of it.)
It’s been ages since I’ve laughed and cried at the same piece of art, I loved Reservation dogs! Thanks for your recommendations, I wrote a little list of things to keep me company while I work nights alone at my desk , but tonight, your video kept me company! Thankyou!
Thank you for not only the list but also your presentation style. It's so informative and entertaining, and unlike what anybody else is doing on UA-cam right now. I'm so much more excited about Drive My Car and One for the Road, now! Thank you and Happy New Year!
Pig was like watching a friend pour his heart out and awkwardly standing by them because you have no ides how to help them. They jjust need to let it out and experience their grief. I think i would appreciate it more if i were in grief but iknow its a powerful film
Pig was honestly one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I really appreciated how through the trailer and one specific scene, it almost made you feel like it was going to turn into an awkward John Wick ripoff. But then it silently continues a beautiful meditation about loss and grief. Huge recommend from me and I'm so glad you pointed it out in this video. It deserves so much more love than it had already received
I love Reservation Dogs. I cried a lot watching that show, for reasons of joy and sorrow and a whole lot of other strong emotions. Will likely be re-watching that series for a while to come.
aaaaaaaaaa I am so glad you're talking about wheel of fortune and fantasy. It was one of the only movies I saw in theatre this year and it moved me a little too much. yes, I cried. glad to see it's getting some attention around the world.
I get so wrapped up in the bubble of BL content and kdramas sometimes that I forget that those shows can just be watched by people who aren't fully obsessed with the genre and it's almost like seeing a scene kid in the wild? like "OH I RECOGNISE YOU! HOW DID YOU GET HERE" if that makes sense? (it definitely does not) anyway what i'm saying is I get so excited to see them recommended, particularly something as good as I Told Sunset About You, so thank you for that and all those amazing recs!!
I really enjoyed We Are Lady Parts and Reservation Dogs! I was salty about having to pay for Peacock to finish We Are Lady Parts, but it was definitely worth it. I finished it in one sitting.
i loved this video and it just felt really organic cuz i also become repetitive when i talk about things i like. thank you for this list, ive been in really bad slump last year especially when it comes to movies and TV. your videos reminds me to enjoy things and not take things too seriously. i so think you would like sort of, it's a meditative show about coming into yourself and letting people in.
Thank you for these recommendations (I'll take them as such) and for all your videos this year. Your voice is just so soothing and your commentary so engaging. I hope next year is amazing for you whatever you decide to do.
…It just tickles me that you gave Reservation Dogs a chance, even more so that you enjoyed it. I have no idea what the whole catfish thing is about, I gotta admit, otherwise it’s imagery is picture-perfect. You even got inspired me to give Crooklyn another chance (maybe I’ll even remember it this this time, it’s alright).
This video finally got me to move We Are Lady Parts from my "To Watch List" to my "Have Watched List" and thank you so much! It's such an awesome show!
Fantastic selection, especially loved Reservation Dogs, We Are Lady Parts. Still need to check out Pig and Zola. I've heard a lot about Drive My Car, so gotta check it out. My favourite films of 2021 were Petite Maman, Playground, Hit The Road, Quo Vadis Aida, Red Rocket, The Green Knight, Benedetta, Apples, Enforcement, and for a feel good experience is The Harder They Fall.
"Pig" has probably the greatest scene I saw on film this year. Granted, I didn't see many new movies this year, but I don't think I'll see many things that compare to the scene in the restaurant in "Pig." I honestly cannot forget it, even months after seeing it.
I highly agree with the films and shows you mentioned that I've watched, so I am definitely adding some of your other mentions to my to-watch list. Thank you.
I tend to mainly watch older shows (I can't handle the anxiety of whether a show will be renewed or not and i make very few exceptions) so one show I found this year i ended up really liking was Damages. A well written suspenseful drama about a young up and coming lawyer who gets hired to work for Party Hewes, played by Glenn Close. It took me a bit but it ended up becoming a new favorite show of mine. I also really enjoyed/liked Greenleaf, Girl From Nowhere Season 2, Blood & Water Season 2, The Americans, Hard Rock Medical and Locked Up (I watched S1 last year and the rest of the show this year)
Barely started the video and the fact you started this with Pig... I gotta say I really do respect your taste in movies and I can't wait to see which ones you watched that I haven't seen so maybe I can watch something new 🤟 if you like Nick Cage movies, I'd recommend Color Out of Space. It's really wild but he acts the HECK out of his character and it's actual pretty great overall, in my onion at least 🤷♀️
I'd be very interested to hear you talk about music. Even if not like an analysis just the stuff you like to listen to. You had some really good song choices for this video.
i feel bad about the movies and shows i didn't discuss/describe in detail but just know that they're all good even when i couldn't find the words to express it
Thanks for all these recommendations. Appreciating you and the work you put into this channel. Hoping 2022 treats you well.
You dont need to apologize for what you missed ❤️ Your care and intention shows through in the quality reviews you give.
I wanted to thank you for your channel and your unique and insightful voice. I also wanted to compliment you on your literal voice.

love me some sam levinson slander
Thank u for saying it 👏👏👏
I’m not going to be surprised if I find out Sam Levinson has any allegations involving teens in the next few years.
We Are Lady Parts is one of my fave series that came out this year! I'm so glad they've been renewed for season 2! I need more!
Encanto and Reservation Dogs were amazing. Thanks for all the other recommendations!
I have been looking forward to watching Reservation Dogs for a loong time

Reservation Dogs was so so good and yes, I love how they used Creator by Santigold in their trailers too
You have one of the most beautiful and soothing voices on here.
As a musician who loves Santigold (the artist and record) I'd love to hear you talk about them. So much of music is about how it feels and the formalistic video essays a lot of the time forget that.
I'm still watching the vid but OMG YES WE ARE LADY PARTS 😩❤💖💞 genuinely one of the few things to bring me joy this year ☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽

lady parts actually went so hard, sobbing that nadia's cover of creep isnt on spotify
Your voice is so relaxing.
I literally screamed when you mentioned Santigold, this album is super important to me too. "unstoppable" like such a jam. anyway, kisses from Brazil.

I LOVED we are lady parts.. at a moment when I was negotiating what it meant to be a muslim woman for myself it really helped me.
She's back 🥺
I was so excited to see you talking about We Are Lady Parts! I loved that show so much and it deserves more attention

You have the perfect voice for narration. It’s calm and peaceful but it doesn’t sound lethargic or lull the listener to sleep.
Ugh I TOLD SUNSET ABOUT YOU is so good all last year during the pandemic I sat down and rewatched it a unhealthy amount of times and bawled my eyes out. The soundtrack is so good too. A total recommend.
We Are Lady Parts and Reservation Dogs were my tv highlights for the year too!!
We Are Lady Parts is AMAZIINNG. Love that show
Sooooo grateful for your content and how much you’ve taught me!
I saw the ad for We Are Lady Parts and got excited too! Man, I really got to get on watching that
"I Told the Sunset About You" was really great! Just visually beautiful -- I think it's set/shot in Phuket, and it made me really want to visit.

speaking from after the series finale, Reservation Dogs is one of the best shows of its era
Randomly saw a clip of We Are Lady Parts in a tiktok and immediately had to know what show it was. Enjoyed it so freaking much!
It’s been ages since I’ve laughed and cried at the same piece of art, I loved Reservation dogs!

wow good video (PLEASE DONT STOP MAKING VIDEOS OMFG 😥😢😭)

Yes, We are Lady Parts is brilliant! I agree, it was the only thing that made me sign up for Peacock.
The opening was all I needed to like this video
Reservation Dogs is literally my favorite! I’m really sad that there’s a lot of episodes, I hope there’s more season
It has been renewed for season two! I'm thrilled. Willy Jack is my idol.
@@aliannne1099 Willy Jack is literally my favorite too

so happy u are back
Thanks for the we are lady parts recommendation! I loved the trailer and gonna watch it all of new year day!
Dash & Lily and Only Murders in the Building both brought me a lot of fun/joy too! So glad I watched them when I did
"so next we're gonna talk about shows" this is how a segue is done.
I looked up "One for the Road" to add to my watch list -- and it was co-produced by Wong Kar-Wai!?! Well, now I'm definitely going to seek it out!
