You’re not alone my friend! I think in these times, we are all striving to feel connected to the things we see- both online and in real life. What I’ve learned is it doesn’t make me a bad person for wanting to want things, but it’s bad for my self-esteem and my pocketbook when I realize after getting the things I thought I want, doesn’t offer any real change or satisfaction in my life. Calm comes with being grateful for the blessings I have. Sorry to get so deep, but I loved your comment. Thank you❤️😊
We need more videos like this. I’ve gotten a lot better with my purchases, but sometimes the FOMO or sales get to me. My guilty pleasure this year was notebooks. I don’t know how I’m going to use 10 different notebooks but gosh they’re pretty lol. I will say sometimes I buy a Planner supply, don’t need it right away, but a year later think of a use for it, so maybe that will happen with you.
If you’re looking for reliable highlighters I would recommend the stabilo boss! I bought the pastel pack like 4 years ago for my last year in school and for journaling, AND THEY’RE STILL GOING STRONG! Also, great video. There should be more videos like these in the planning/journaling community because the consumerism is going crazy!
This was very interesting and since you are asking for suggestions: 1. Pop an index in the front and number the pages of your Stalogy and use it for any kind of notes: reading notes, class notes, outlines for assignments, etc. I love the thin paper in these so I can keep my archived notes in a smaller space. 2. I use Mildliners more for layout and even doodling or sketching than I do for hi-lighting. I like the Pentel hi-lighters better for marking text. 3. Could you superglue the pen holder together so it won't fall apart? One thing I think the planner community got carried away with is decor. I'm glad I've mostly avoided stickers, sticker kits, and washi tapes. No matter the brand, after a while the adhesive breaks down, or the colors start to fade, the foil starts to flake off, etc. Plus, in addition to the cost of stickers and washi tape, if you buy a lot then you have to also buy sticker books or bins to organize everything. Instead, I use pens and markers to draw lines and decorate (are they as cute as stickers? No. but it's much less expensive to buy a few markers per year, and my planner doesn't look like a copy of everyone else's - it's personal to me). I was tempted to get some ink stamps, but stamping is like stickers: you have to store the stamps and the ink pads somewhere, and it's tempting to overbuy on stamp designs. So, instead of buying a bunch of pre-made decor, I use found items to decorate my personal journal and work planner: the wrapper from something, the graphic from a receipt, the decorative border off of a note or post-it that someone gave me, or just shapes cut out of colored scrap paper or catalogs. Occasionally, I'll print a graphic or photo onto regular paper and glue that in. But the point is, if I want decor, I have to find or make it myself, not buy it.
Wow! Such brilliant recommendations! Thanks for all of these my friend 😊 I love stickers so much and I have found by narrowing my purchases to one shop has really helped with FOMO and overspending. Like with anything, using it tastefully always helps me to appreciate them more. I do like your idea of decorating your pages in your own. I’m not confident in my drawing abilities, but I am going to give it a try. Thanks for leaving such a detailed awesome comment, you rock!😊🥰
@@planningcalm Thanks for being so gracious. I always feel awkward leaving a dissertation-sized comment on someone's channel the first time I watch. And no shade for using stickers if they make you happy! I just think they're easy to get overwhelmed by or overspend on. I'm not great at art myself but I've learned to just embrace that and over time I've seen some improvement. Rulers and the occasional stencil help keep my hand-drawn deco tidy(ier).
Now don’t you go apologizing for anything my friend! I live for these types of comments and I’m so grateful for these conversations. I appreciate people for taking time out of their busy day to share their thoughts with me. I know you didn’t mean any shade, Hun! I really am taking your suggestions to heart abs I appreciate you 😊
I have a laundry lists of things I regret buying this year as well. I let FOMO over take me this year but I want to make better choices next year. Thanks for this video Cat, you always have excellent video ideas.
The delfonics pouch...yes. I fell for the hype too. The problem I have is if you use the slots on the outside and then take it in your bag or whatever, things fall out of the slots. If you're not meant to take it in a bag, then it just becomes a very expensive pen holder. Not good. Mines in a drawer although I sometimes use it for makeup :) Great video Cat!
Hi! I’m new! Love your channel. The delfonics pouch had me talking to myself when I received it. It’s very expensive and the quality was rather poor. Everyone was buying them at the time lol I should have known better.
Use the stalogy- as a journal where you list the planner items you WANT to buy - it will be a good reminder of not all wants are needed - you can list pros and cons of items, really think of how you will use an item - before you commit I think so often we hit “buy now” without pausing to really consider the value/need for an item I am planning to do this in 2024 - for a lot of things - makeup, clothes, shoes, notebooks and pens - going to list the prices of those items too - so if I don’t buy it I can put that $ amount in my savings account
That’s a great idea! I especially need this practice when it comes to clothes. I buy way too much of things I don’t want or need, all for the rush of that “buy now” feeling. Thanks for sharing my friend!😊
GUILTY! I had FOMO with the Hobonichi Weeks. I had intended to use mine for 2024. Ordered it, tracked it like a crazy person and the last time I opened it was in 2023. I can write small but I’m heavy handed. I’ve gotten spoiled the last few years with higher GSM and now I don’t care for ghosting. It’s super cute and I love all the spreads online but it’s not for me. Glad I went back to my Travelers Notebook this year.
All I can say is AMEN GIRLFRIEND! I am totally in the same boat as you right now! I have spent so much money on planner stuff this year it's ridiculous! I might even be able to pay off the national debt with what I've spent on planner supplies! Going to do (as much as humanly possible) a no spend on planner anything in 2024!!!
Me too! I also don't want to 100% use no stickers, but I want to get back to the roots and make the spreads more minimal or use scraps from paper that is at home already.
This video really resonated with me. I am an old lady and have been planner focused since before it was a thing. It really hit me hard this year the difference between my investment and satisfaction level with planning supplies. I've decided to only "use what I have" in 2024. I have some A5 spiral, dot grid notebooks that have 80 pages of 100 GSM paper and I've turned one into a simple planner. I paid $2 for the notebook. Everything else, such as pens, pencils, erasers, markers, stickers and etc. will be from what I currently own. If I don't have what I "think" I need, I'll make note of it in my notebook. If I find a workaround for the item in my current collection, I'll mark the item off the list and possibly never buy it again. I'm really looking forward to 2024, if for no other reason than clearing my thoughts about planner spending. Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed it and have subscribed so that I don't miss your content. Have a lovely day!!
I just subscribed, I love having information as such. A tight budget does not need to fail us. You aren a treasure and I could listen to you all day long. Your voice is so southing and delightful. The pen holder…. Maybe glue together? And maybe put it in a box of sort. Even a gift box from Dollar Tree. Just a thought to help the struggle is real! Thank you Oh so much! Have a grand day!
9:40 I came across a tombow holder in the local art supplies store(it’s from the tombow brand and it has a cover on the top. You can remove the cover and just use it like that though). It’s much better quality. I wonder if you could find them online somewhere. I got lucky on that one because the next time I went to the same store, they were not selling it anymore. It’s very common for things to be available only for a short period of time in my city, so I didn’t even think twice.
Same with the delfonics! It is too deep and stuff just falls into it never to be seen again. I really prefer pencil cases that you shallow so you can see your supplies.
I think, as teachers, we have a totally different style of planning than what is shown in the planner community. What we are required to turn in every week in most schools comprises pages of state/federal standards, goals, accommodations, leveled groups, and more. I've used many types of planning over the last 30 years, but mostly went to digital for teaching and then used the Teacher Big Happy Planner for my desk notes. I had a template that printed my typed outline for every week on the Happy Planner discs, but of course the full set of plans that were turned in every week to Admin were online.
I love the idea of going digital for teaching, but I’m so overwhelmed by the choices, I don’t know where to start. I’d love to see what templates you use. Perhaps we can connect on IG😊
Stabilo Boss is the BOSS for highlighters. I have some mildliners and they are okay but you are right they don't last as long as I feel they should. I liked them for my grad school classes as they were not super bright colors but I disliked the fact that I could barely get through two textbook chapters with one before it was dead. Love this video. I am a teacher and planner too and FOMO with planning and office supplies is REAL! Just finished my masters so grad school is off the plate but who knows what I'll be up to next.
First the cadence of your voice reminds me of my Aunt (random) thanks for this video! Sometimes we buy the stuff and the stuff doesn't stuff like it's supposed to but no one says anything. I'm with you on the post it notes no more from the dollar tree for me either.
I stopped buying planners for a simple reason. My ADHD makes it difficult to stick with anything already created. I have trouble focusing on filling out the empty spots of the pages. I now use an a5 dot grid notebook and a pen and separate my pages with two days each. Now i just write lists of things, and It totally appeases my ADHD needs.
A lot of those items, especially the planners/journals I figured out wouldn’t work for me before purchasing. That EC folio is one of my favorite. I had a G&C planner in it for 23. It was a little big but I made it work. My 24 EC coil is already in it and fits perfectly. The Mildliners I could have done without. I just never use them. Also the happy planner punch. I use the crop-a-dile more than the punch.
I def need to do more of that. I need to look at my planner needs and see what will work best for me. Planning is always a journey…and I love it! Thanks for being here😊
I would like to make a few suggestions. Double broad fountain pen with super light inks, they even make highlighter ink. You can refill, try dozens of colrs and the pens are super cool. With the pouch, a nylon carry strap would make a difference, it reduces cumbersomness Glue the pen holder! It helps. Never cheap out on post-its, I am 46 and some things are worth the $$$. I was delighted to hear how much you learned about yourself and your preferences, greay job!
It's funny what works for different people and purposes. The weeks is my work go to! Though to be fair the entirety of my to dos don't go in there, just one specific process and upcoming stuff like meetings. I throw personal appointments in there too since i am guaranteed to look at it daily.
Yess sis! I love this video. These are the moments of self-awareness that saves us money in the long run! Realizing what DOESN'T work is part of the process. The folios Erin Condren has for the A5 is a different kind - the folio you have is for 7x9 or 8.5x11 only. I totally agree with you - cheap sticky notes and clips are the worst and just make things harder! The only highlighters I could recommend is the Pilot Frixion ones. I'm sorry them mildliners didn't work for you but I also thank you for this honest video! ♥
I always appreciate you, Sis🥰. Lol! The folio is too big for my DD. I was taken in my the calming color. It really is about trial and error. Sometimes you won’t know something isn’t for you unless you use it for a bit. That’s what I love about the journey- you get to learn about yourself and what works for you😊
Loved this video and your honesty! I don't know how you got a bad batch of mildliners 😢. They have never failed me. I love EC products and I did want to get the folio but I am glad you spoke up. I do love their sticker books though and I like that they are not so sticky so I can reposition them.
I loooooove EC as well!!! I owe other EC stickers that are awesome, I just think that particular book didn’t work so well for me. Thanks for being here my friend😊❤️
This video was so great. We need more like this! Love the honest take on the Pouch especially - so expensive for something that’s not really that special but they’re so trendy 🫤
I have got stuck in that I have to have it! There are many things that I purchased that either didn't work or I didn't need.I just started planning this year and made a few useless purchases. You're right, because it works for someone else it might not for you. Beware of all the new sales and gimmicks that try to lure you in. Think before purchasing
With the marker holder...get rid off it. Tombows should be stored horizontally anyway so that the ink stays equally on both ends. I have to say that with tombow I really like the boxes that they sell them in. Those are great way to store them too if you buy them in sets instead of individual pens.
Stabilo makes great highlighters! I like both the small, chiseled Swing Cool ones and the larger Boss ones. And I don't reach for my Delfonics pouches much at all for planning- - get that! But they have found their place in my life as purse organizers. I LOVE my small size Delfonics, now! Thanks for sharing this video -- it's super helpful to hear a balanced perspective on so many items that are full of hype, but maybe just don't deliver as much as we'd hoped. There is so much excess in this hobby, and there doesn't need to be.
I'm glad my algo rec'd this to me, subscribed! You have a very pleasant, calming voice and I appreciate your reasoning behind each product - ESP THOSE KNOCK-OFF POST-ITS!! Omg now ik why the ones I have never stick! 😂
My favorite highlighters are Zeyar cream color highlighters & BIC brite liner Grip. So far those are my faves & I’ve been using them for at least a year.
I appreciated this video so much! I’m still trying to figure out my planning situation right now, and it’s so easy to spend money on unneeded stuff in the experimental phase! 😅
Glad it was helpful! My advice for your journey is don't rush in and buy what everyone else has. Look at your planner needs and start from there. I will have a video about this coming soon :)
ThankYou for your honesty! I am new to the planner world and product, stickers, borders, calendars, lists, tabs, cards, dividers, vellum and all kinds of paper are quite overwhelming. 😬 infact all my things I chose to start with are all on order. Ps. A true A6 is european size.. inserts are 4.1"x5.8". A6 American and China are more a personal size, longer and thinner. I got this! 😁
The only things I haven't tried from your vid are: Marker holder Delfonics pouch Planner cover EC stickers But I agree with you 💯 about everything else. Mildliners (or any marker that dries out): put them in the freezer for a day or 2 & let them thaw. They usually work. Somehow the pores on the tip re-open due to the freezing.
Stabilo Boss highlighters. I still have some which are 5+ years old or even older and they work like a charm. ( I use them on/off) also had them throughout my school years, they really hold a lot of ink and I almost never had to replace them. Mildliners: had mine for 2+ years, tehy are still fine but Stabilo is more... inky if that makes sense?
I purchased the EC Seasonal Box. I was really disappointed. There were a couple of items that I liked but they were not worth what I paid. They really hyped the mystery item and I looked forward to it. Unfortunately, it was a bust. I gave most of the items to friends.
I yelled YES when you said post-it’s that aren’t post-it brand 🤣 I finally had to tell my boss ‘please don’t buy these’. It’s sad how terrible they are because sometimes they’re so cute! I loved this video, juiced to watch more 💗✨
regarding Mildliners - I have loads of old ones that are working just fine. New ones I purchased this year are not made in Japan but made in Mexico. They havent run out yet (I dont really heavily use them), but I wonder if that is the difference? Love these types of videos. It is very helpful and also very realistic.
I made a B6 Stalogy into a bullet journal/planner for 2024 and found out that I don't like drawing out my own spreads. I'm using my A5 Stalogy to journal daily and love it so going forward all of my Stalogy notebooks will be for journaling. The EC folio is either for the 7x9 planner or the 8.5x11 planners. The lighter/white ones seem to be made different because mine came unglued.
The holder is bothering me because most pens live longer if they are stored horizontally, so I am not surprised it didn't hold up. Personally I am sad my current planner only has 7am-9pm in it and I can't plan my 6am train or my 10pm hang out. But I now know a little better what I need ! I started having a planner again (after years of chronic illness chaos) only in september and it has been a very interesting journey. Very curious how my new mildliners are going to live up to the expectations too.
Thanks for your comment my friend! I only recently that pens and markers are best stored horizontally so that’s for that reminder😊 I’m glad you got back into planner again. It’s so much fun to return to something you enjoy!
@@planningcalm i learned it very recently too, and I did a very solid art cursus ! Idk why it's not something more widely known. I feel like I never saw horizontal stationnery storage in stores until recently too. (I feel the need to clarify I was not judging for storing vertically, just that people designing a product like this were not thoughful, so the quality is not surprising)
Sticker books are my nemesis, especially when they are on sale. I just ordered the 7 sticker book bundle from Happy Planner, that of course I did not need. And I have way too many paper packs and notebooks, undoubtedly more than I will ever use in my lifetime. But I did buy much less this year than last year, so that's progress.
Hella late, but I'd recommend you get Stabilo Boss highlighters. Also, omg I have my tombows in that exact same damn container and I put superglue in the corners because it kept coming apart! LOL
lol! I did the same thing and it helps. I got some Stabilos and they are wonderful! And you can never be late to the Calm Fam party. Thanks for being here and for commenting😊
LOL!! Oh boy! I knew I probably was butchering that name too. I'm horrible at that. 😜And yes, I think I will repurpose the Stalogy as a personal planner for next year.
I use to have a lot of stationary items. Because I loved to plan and write ✍🏾 but once I was introduced to digital planning ❤I stay in my iPad and it has money well spent. All the tools and items you need is in the planner (of course nothing beats stationary) but I save a lot more money.
My biggest biggest regret buy was another Plum Paper. I buy one every year and end up ditching it. They are so cute and fun I don’t know why I do this but not in ‘24.
I think I had my big regret year with planning supplies, year before last. This year, I've primarily planned in a Weeks mega and I plan to for 2024 also. And I decided to journal in a Stalogy. And that would be a good way for you to use yours. I just write the date and start writing. So it doesn't matter if you skip days or even months. I started mine in Dec 2019. And I'm still writing in it. Mines an A6. I did decide to use up a lot of my scrap book stickers in it, because I had them on hand, but when I start my new Stalogy, I think I'm just going with ink. No more stickers.
Goodness me! Not the stalogy! I love this thing! It is a custom planner!! But yeah... When you dont have an idea about what ro do with it, its not great! Maybe just use as a common place journal, notebook, OR... Bullet journal? Educator here too. I set up my stalogy with work goal spreads for each quarter, a meeting/PD log, 12 month calendar and then undated daily and notes. But digital for lesson plans, assessment, parent-contact logs etc.
I feel I only bought the 23/24 EC vertical life planner out of FOMO… I have been looking up ways to use it ever since and haven’t came up with any ideas
I've had my mildliners for a couple years and never had that issue! Do you store them flat or vertically? I try to store them flat. Sticky notes have to be post-it notes, or they never seem to stick. Not sure about in Canada but I've found good deals on post-its during Amazon Prime days. I keep buying different folios and covers for planners but never like them! I always end up getting annoyed with them and taking them off.
I find folio covers annoying too, but hate when my planner gets all destroyed from use. I never have luck with off brand post it lol! Will keep my eye out for deals on Post it on Amazon. Thanks for the tip😊
Thanks for the video, some good information. :-) I currently am using supplies I got a couple years ago but still love planner videos. Thanks for sharing, new subscriber here.
Welcome aboard my friend! So happy you’re here. I honestly didn’t think people would find this video helpful. Just me yapping about my purchases because I didn’t do the research and wasted some of my money. That’s what I live about life- there’s always an opportunity to live and learn😊
I never understood the Hobonichi Weeks hype but *almost* got one for next year (despite not even needing another planner hehe😂) out of sheer curiosity. I am a big writer also. It probably wont work for me!
Your willpower is outstanding! Lol! I bought 2 and I have only used one as my food journal for most of the year. As people who write big it probably would have been a struggle to work with for you as well :)
I got my Zebra Mildliners back in 2017 and they still work just fine! But I'll be honest, I don't use them heavily at all (I can't stand ghosting so I've switched to highlighting books with color pencils instead).
This is the big question. I also have old Mildliners that i have used for quite sometime. HOWEVER, mine are all made in Japan. New ones I purchased this year were made in Mexico. I wonder if that is the difference?
the delfonics pouch is definitely way too expensive. if you're unsatisfied with it, i know some people have converted theirs to use as a crossbody bag instead of stationery storage!
New viewer. I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to try, but Sharpie S Notes have been the best highlighters for me. I also like the Pentel 24/7 highlighters. I neverbuy any sticky notes that are not Post It Super Sticky..not even their normal sticky products.
For all dry up markers and highlighters dry storing them bottoms up! In other words, the pointy end goes down and leave it overnight and still have ink in them…. I learn this trick from a math teacher back in middle school…. I asked why he has the expo markers upside down and He mention the markers were dried up when he started teaching and turn them over and they were working just fine after that trick lol
A lot of thrift stores and discount stores and charity shops will have stationery supplies and art supplies that one can buy cheaply. The quality is pretty good. Someone has bought the products and has made the donations. However, I would be careful with some colored pencil brands because the colors aren't vibrant enough. Some crayons also suck.
Hi!😊 This was such a great video!! I’ve only ever heard great things about delfonics so it was nice getting to hear the flip side. I think they look great but for the price, I’d hate to buy one for myself and then it sit in a drawer. Were you going to do a video that’s sort of the opposite of this one? Like the best of the best for 2023, maybe products you bought for the hype and they turned out even better or something you were skeptical on and then it turned out really awesome? The one thing I’ve been curious about this year are those cute little pens that almost everyone has, in neutral colors, they just look so cute and I want one because I see them everywhere but the size is too small for the way I write and I really don’t need more pens right now lol it’s kindof interesting to think about and look at our own purchase habits! Thank you so much!!❤❤
It’s actually kinda of scary how much I’ve spend on everything this year! Looking forward to reducing my spending and making better choices with my spending power. Not everything that everyone has will work for me, and that’s an expensive lesson I’ve had to learn this year😊
@@planningcalm I love the creativity in sort of challenging myself to use what I have. It might not be the super cute sticker book I saw on UA-cam or the beautiful notebook that I liked on instagram but it’s fun to remember and re-fall in love with the things that I already chose to include in my collection! It’s sort of my comfort net of if I can’t or won’t get something new that I wanted to purchase, I go through my stash and get inspired by the things I already have lol That and I said something to myself this year that’s probably really obvious but putting it into words really helped me: They’re going to make more. That’s it, that was the magic words lol Maybe I didn’t buy in the happy planner seasons sale and get all the sticker books but they’re going to make more. There will always be new sticker books and new notebooks and all the things. It seems like such a silly little thing but it took out the anxiety of what if I never get it if I don’t buy it right now? Easy Rachel, they’re going to make more lol Thanks again! I love your videos but it’s also really nice getting to chat and exchange ideas and hear more from you!❤️
I am shocked about your mildliners ! I’ve not experienced that before and I’ve had mine for years. Ugh, I’d be as frustrated if I experienced the same though. My EC planner folio doesn’t fit in my chunky 7x9 12 month planner either. 😭 It doesn’t snap close without bending the tabs pretty badly. 😩 Excellent video Cat ! Thank you for sharing !
Great video. I think the quality of many things have gone down exponentially since 2021. Most of our products are still made in China and they have been experiencing some really tough times in recent years. So I think that would explain your subpar highlighters and sticky notes, etc.
Bevor I bought a weekly planer I standed like 20 min in the store and looked closely at the size. There Was one in the same size like your hobonichi but I knew that the size wasnt right. Im an A6,a5 and a4 girl 😂
Hi new subber 🫶🏻 agree with this. I started looking at the Take a Note planners last night when I’m all set and some for next year. My regret was buying a Hobonichi Cousin in April. It’s too big and a millstone 😂
This is so interesting. This is the first time I’m seeing _that_ delfonics pouch on the planner side of youtube. That specific pouch was (is?) a big thing on the journal side (not talking about _bullet_ journal girls, JUST journal girls). Those that had it, raved about it. It Also comes in 3 different sizes, if I’m not mistaken
I think the things I regret buying are some of the cheap, flimsy notebooks I got during the first few years of immigration. We were in a new country, completely overwhelmed, and I just grabbed whatever notebooks that were available as a mental safe blanket of sort. The problem was that I had to leave most of my old, better stationary supplies back at home (basically gave them up. Including all my private notes and brainstorming from when I was a child. They’re probably non-existing now if not lying in a landfill still). Anyway. I got some cheap stuff from dollar store because we didn’t know the city and I didn’t know where to get quality supplies yet. The dollar stores started to sell nicer notebooks in recent years, but at the time it was all cheap, flimsy stuff. Now some of these flimsy notebooks hold my thoughts and sketches and journals. I can’t throw them away. They’re hard to archive because of how bad the quality is. I can see some of them falling apart in the near future. I will never get something flimsy again if I know I would want to archive it. For a notebook I intend to keep for decades to come, a few more bucks is a small piece to pay. But if it’s just for temporary notes, it’s probably not worth a $30 notebook.
For sure there is a 'Planner tax' just like there's a 'Pink tax'. Companies know that people in the planner community love to have all the latest goods, so the price reflects that
I love mildliners. My regret this year was buying transparent sticky notes. My notes smear every time. Sooo, it could be aesthetically pleasing, but not with smeared ink. lol. The internet made me do it too!
Nothing wrong with a good old painted empty tin can for a pencil/pen holder on the desk. I have used stalogy notebooks for my journal for the past four years it’s a nice yearly journal with 368 pages. I’ve been getting sucked into the hobonichi craze but not for $100 I’ll buy a second stalogy and draw the lines in to make a planner on my own for half the price with a ruler and a black pen.
It hit home hard when you said.. I saw it online and thought I had to have one. It feels a little better to know I'm not the only one. Thank you!
The notebook obsession is real!! Lol! I hope to repurpose my purchases because I hate to waste things. 😊
You can revitalize your mildliners by putting them in water for a while. Also, store them horizontally.
Thanks for the tip my friend. Storing them horizontally has seem to help. I will also try the water trick as well :)
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check them out. I need some new ones for my courses next semester!😊
I agree , 😊
I can agree! I am German and used them all through my school and university years! They also have really nice colors 😊
I agree they are very inky but my issue with them is they bleed through the page. Love them otherwise.
Thanks for all of these my friend 😊
I love stickers so much and I have found by narrowing my purchases to one shop has really helped with FOMO and overspending.
I really am taking your suggestions to heart abs I appreciate you 😊
Truth be told I haven’t been a fan of EC stickers in years. Etsy offers so many amazing small shops to support that are much better quality.
Etsy does have amazing sellers. I've found a lot of great shops this year :)
For highlighters with similar colors to the zebra one I recommend the sharpie S note. I have been using them all year
Nice! Thanks for the recommendation my friend!😊
I have a laundry lists of things I regret buying this year as well. I let FOMO over take me this year but I want to make better choices next year. Thanks for this video Cat, you always have excellent video ideas.
Thanks a great idea my friend! :)
Yes! So true! Using it as a makeup holder might not be a bad idea, lol!😊
Hi! I’m new! Love your channel. The delfonics pouch had me talking to myself when I received it. It’s very expensive and the quality was rather poor. Everyone was buying them at the time lol I should have known better.
@CherylMusgrove Thank you and welcome to the fam!! I understand. I’ve fell to FOMO so many times this year🤦🏾♀️
Use the stalogy- as a journal where you list the planner items you WANT to buy - it will be a good reminder of not all wants are needed - you can list pros and cons of items, really think of how you will use an item - before you commit
I think so often we hit “buy now” without pausing to really consider the value/need for an item
I am planning to do this in 2024 - for a lot of things - makeup, clothes, shoes, notebooks and pens - going to list the prices of those items too - so if I don’t buy it I can put that $ amount in my savings account
Lol! I hear you my friend! The good ol reliable TN is a great planner. I take my on the go and it works wonderfully😊
Excellent video. It made me thinking to go through planner items I got and never used and maybe sell them or donate them.
Yasss! Great idea my friend! Someone could use them for sure😊
Ugh so guilty of buying something “cute” or “cool” without thinking about how I could use it before buying 😬🙈
I hear ya Sis. I’m guilty of that for sure🙋🏾♀️. Actually, I think we all are😊❤️
Great video. I gave up EC years ago. As for the mildliners, I would write them and let them know if your problem.
Thanks so much for watching 😊
All I can say is AMEN GIRLFRIEND! I am totally in the same boat as you right now! I have spent so much money on planner stuff this year it's ridiculous! I might even be able to pay off the national debt with what I've spent on planner supplies! Going to do (as much as humanly possible) a no spend on planner anything in 2024!!!
🤣🤣🤣 I’m going to do a no spend as well. We’re in this together😁
I love my Mildliners they’ve never been dry. I’ve had mine for several years.
Nice! I’m convinced I had an unlucky batch😊
I'm just over spending money on stickers. I want to move back to minimal planning!
Stay tuned to the channel Sis! Definitely some of that in my future (but I’m just not ready to say goodbye to stickers just yet) lol!😊
I completely understand. I had that epiphany as well. I will strive to move in that direction as well 😊
your voice is very soothing, extra fitting for planning "calm" :)
Oh thank you!😊🥰
I just subscribed, I love having information as such.
Welcome aboard and welcome to the fam! 😊❤️
Great suggestion 😊
I use my stalogy like a catch all common planner, quotes I like, books I’ve read, moments of my day, grocery lists, etc
Beautiful! Such a great idea, Ashley!😊
I used a Stalogy as a journal/notebook.
Great idea!😊
I love my Delfonics pouch! It holds and organizes all of my planner accessories.
I love it!
Honestly I would use this pouch as a travel makeup case lol
@katherinetroche8812 great idea!😊
Same with the delfonics! It is too deep and stuff just falls into it never to be seen again. I really prefer pencil cases that you shallow so you can see your supplies.
So true😊
Tracey! Welcome! I love meeting fellow teachers and planner folks. I will have to check out those highlighters. Thanks for the recommendation!😁😊
Great video 🤎 Thank you for sharing
Thanks so much for being here!😊
First the cadence of your voice reminds me of my Aunt (random) thanks for this video! Sometimes we buy the stuff and the stuff doesn't stuff like it's supposed to but no one says anything. I'm with you on the post it notes no more from the dollar tree for me either.
Lol! Aww thanks 😊 I love the part, “the stuff doesn’t stuff like it’s supposed to…” cracked me up girl!
Awesome! I’m so glad you found what worked for you. My friend’s have tried this method as well with great success!
With the pouch, a nylon carry strap would make a difference, it reduces cumbersomness
Glue the pen holder! It helps.
Never cheap out on post-its, I am 46 and some things are worth the $$$.
I was delighted to hear how much you learned about yourself and your preferences, greay job!
Thanks for the tips! Excellent suggestions and I appreciate them all😊
It's funny what works for different people and purposes. The weeks is my work go to! Though to be fair the entirety of my to dos don't go in there, just one specific process and upcoming stuff like meetings. I throw personal appointments in there too since i am guaranteed to look at it daily.
Nice! I wish it worked for me as I like the sleek design of the planner.
The weeks is my absolute favorite work planner.
The dollar tree has a paintbrush holder that’s circular and great for holding pens. Loved this video. Mind if I use this topic?
Go for it! Please @ me so I can watch it too😊❤️
@@planningcalm I sure will. It’ll be next weeks episode
I find that I can’t skimp on post-it notes-the real deal are expensive but they work so much better!
Amen to that my friend!😊
The holder with the markers you can glue it together for it to stay in place. Put glue at each leg that snaps in.
That's a great idea, my friend! What type of glue do you recommend?
This video was so great. We need more like this! Love the honest take on the Pouch especially - so expensive for something that’s not really that special but they’re so trendy 🫤
Thanks so much!😊
I have got stuck in that I have to have it! There are many things that I purchased that either didn't work or I didn't need.I just started planning this year and made a few useless purchases. You're right, because it works for someone else it might not for you. Beware of all the new sales and gimmicks that try to lure you in. Think before purchasing
Such wise words my friend. We all get like that sometimes and I have to remember to give myself grace😊
With the marker holder...get rid off it. Tombows should be stored horizontally anyway so that the ink stays equally on both ends. I have to say that with tombow I really like the boxes that they sell them in. Those are great way to store them too if you buy them in sets instead of individual pens.
Thanks for the tip! I was kicking myself months ago for getting rid of the package they come it🤦🏾♀️
Stabilo makes great highlighters!
Beautifully said my friend😊❤️
I'm glad my algo rec'd this to me, subscribed!
You have a very pleasant, calming voice and I appreciate your reasoning behind each product - ESP THOSE KNOCK-OFF POST-ITS!! Omg now ik why the ones I have never stick! 😂
Welcome to the fam my friend! Right?!!! Those knock off post it drive me crazy😂😂😂
I loving this video are you going to make a video of this that you and buy again.
That's a great idea my friend! I will try in the new year :)
My favorite highlighters are Zeyar cream color highlighters & BIC brite liner Grip. So far those are my faves & I’ve been using them for at least a year.
Ooooh! I’ve never heard of those and excited to check them out!😍
Long overdue. Thank u for this new sub
Welcome! So happy to have you here😊🤗
I use Stalogys as catch-all/common place (whatever term you prefer) notebooks. Great paper and compact.
Great tip! I love the idea😊
I'm with you- take those non sticky post it notes to the fire! They drive me bananas!
Yasss girl! You feel me, LOL!! Thank you for making me smile today😊❤️
@@planningcalm thank you so much! Looking forward to watching your upcoming video. ☺
🥰
I love the planner pouch.
😊❤️
ThankYou for your honesty! I am new to the planner world and product, stickers, borders, calendars, lists, tabs, cards, dividers, vellum and all kinds of paper are quite overwhelming. 😬 infact all my things I chose to start with are all on order. Ps. A true A6 is european size.. inserts are 4.1"x5.8". A6 American and China are more a personal size, longer and thinner. I got this! 😁
You do! You got this my friend. Don't forget to plan the way you want, and plan the way the brings you calm :)
I think you may have had a bad batch of the Mildliners. I bought some at Michael’s and they did the same.
Interesting...I also bought mine from Michaels. If I do repurchase them again, I will try Amazon :)
I love a few things that you don't.😅😂 Thanks for sharing!
That’s what makes this community so awesome! We all have different interests but yet we are still connected😁❤️
@@planningcalm I agree!
The only things I haven't tried from your vid are:
Marker holder
Delfonics pouch
Planner cover
EC stickers
But I agree with you 💯 about everything else.
Mildliners (or any marker that dries out): put them in the freezer for a day or 2 & let them thaw. They usually work. Somehow the pores on the tip re-open due to the freezing.
Thanks for the tips!👍🏿😊🥰
I use my stalogy as a commonplace book. I dont like it as a planner, I love my rings, but i love my stalogy for a commonplace book.
I use my Stalogy for journaling, and a Leuchtturm for health notes, related seminars, family health stuff, so either of those might be good?
Great idea!!😊
Stabilo Boss highlighters. I still have some which are 5+ years old or even older and they work like a charm. ( I use them on/off) also had them throughout my school years, they really hold a lot of ink and I almost never had to replace them.
Mildliners: had mine for 2+ years, tehy are still fine but Stabilo is more... inky if that makes sense?
I hear good things about those highlighters. I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for sharing 😊
I purchased the EC Seasonal Box. I was really disappointed. There were a couple of items that I liked but they were not worth what I paid. They really hyped the mystery item and I looked forward to it. Unfortunately, it was a bust. I gave most of the items to friends.
I wanted to get a box but they were sold old. Thanks for sharing your insights 😊
I yelled YES when you said post-it’s that aren’t post-it brand 🤣 I finally had to tell my boss ‘please don’t buy these’. It’s sad how terrible they are because sometimes they’re so cute! I loved this video, juiced to watch more 💗✨
Lol! Yes friend yes!! Thanks for being here and stay tuned more videos to come😊🥰
regarding Mildliners - I have loads of old ones that are working just fine.
New ones I purchased this year are not made in Japan but made in Mexico.
They havent run out yet (I dont really heavily use them), but I wonder if that is the difference?
Love these types of videos. It is very helpful and also very realistic.
Thanks so much! I wonder if there is a difference too🤔
I made a B6 Stalogy into a bullet journal/planner for 2024 and found out that I don't like drawing out my own spreads. I'm using my A5 Stalogy to journal daily and love it so going forward all of my Stalogy notebooks will be for journaling.
The EC folio is either for the 7x9 planner or the 8.5x11 planners. The lighter/white ones seem to be made different because mine came unglued.
I like the concept of bullet journalling but it always stresses me out😊 You’re right about the folio. I believe it is for the 7x9. My bad🤦🏾♀️
I like Mr. Pen highlighters.
I will have to check those out!
We've all been there my friend, haha! Good for you on making that progress this year :)
The Stalogy (stah-luh-jee)makes a better journal, maybe. I loved planning in an a6 one many years ago though.
LOL!!
That’s great! Digital planning is a wonderful way to save some $$$😊
My biggest biggest regret buy was another Plum Paper. I buy one every year and end up ditching it. They are so cute and fun I don’t know why I do this but not in ‘24.
I love that you recognized your limits and are making changes to suit your needs. Love it!😊
Maybe you could use the notebook like a book jornal =)
😊👍🏿
I bought the newest a&o stencil I'm not sure I'll actually use it
Do you use a bujo? I hear they are great for setting up your bullet journal😊
@planningcalm I do I'm just not sure how much I'll whip it out knowing I can draw a decent straight line 😂😂
@YourDadSaysHi7 😂😂😂
Awesome idea! Thanks for the inspo😊
So agree about the Delfonics pouch! There are so many similar and cheaper ones out there for what is essentially a large pencil case.
For sure!👍🏿😊
Thank you for this video!
Thank you for being here my friend!😊😊
Goodness me! Not the stalogy! I love this thing!
It is a custom planner!!
But yeah... When you dont have an idea about what ro do with it, its not great!
Maybe just use as a common place journal, notebook, OR... Bullet journal?
Educator here too. I set up my stalogy with work goal spreads for each quarter, a meeting/PD log, 12 month calendar and then undated daily and notes. But digital for lesson plans, assessment, parent-contact logs etc.
So many great ideas. Thanks for sharing😊
I have exactly the same Hobonichi weeks and colour and I can’t do anything with it 😢
😊
I feel I only bought the 23/24 EC vertical life planner out of FOMO… I have been looking up ways to use it ever since and haven’t came up with any ideas
I totally understand! I did that years ago and just gave up. I’m not really a fan of vertical layout except in my business planner by HP
Crazy. I love cheap sticky notes. All my dollar store sticky notes work great. You probably had a bad batch.
Drat! Lol! I love the price of them but they never stick for me😊
I got my Zebra Mildliners back in 2017 and they still work just fine! But I'll be honest, I don't use them heavily at all (I can't stand ghosting so I've switched to highlighting books with color pencils instead).
Nice!😊
This is the big question. I also have old Mildliners that i have used for quite sometime. HOWEVER, mine are all made in Japan. New ones I purchased this year were made in Mexico. I wonder if that is the difference?
the delfonics pouch is definitely way too expensive. if you're unsatisfied with it, i know some people have converted theirs to use as a crossbody bag instead of stationery storage!
Excellent idea! I’ll look for a video on UA-cam. I love planning, and I’m also a bit of a bag-lover nut😊😝
Two videos in one week?! this is a treat Cat!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Covid and pneumonia are responsible for the double uploads. I have a difficult time standing still :)
New viewer. I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to try, but Sharpie S Notes have been the best highlighters for me. I also like the Pentel 24/7 highlighters. I neverbuy any sticky notes that are not Post It Super Sticky..not even their normal sticky products.
Welcome my friend! I will look into those highlighters, and yes to super sticky post it notes😊
I’ll give that a try. Thanks for the tip😁👍🏿
Thanks for the tip! And you’re about the vibrancy of some pencil crayons. My student complain about that a lot. Thanks for being here😊
Hi!😊 This was such a great video!! Thank you so much!!❤❤
Thanks for being here, Beautiful!! You read my mind Sis! A video like that is coming up on Sunday 😊
I love your videos but it’s also really nice getting to chat and exchange ideas and hear more from you!❤️
Hello 👋 budgeting friend here watching.
Thanks for coming and watching my friend!😊❤️
I am shocked about your mildliners ! I’ve not experienced that before and I’ve had mine for years. Ugh, I’d be as frustrated if I experienced the same though.
My EC planner folio doesn’t fit in my chunky 7x9 12 month planner either. 😭 It doesn’t snap close without bending the tabs pretty badly. 😩
Excellent video Cat ! Thank you for sharing !
Thanks so much for being here my friend! I think I got a bad batch of the markers, but it still hurt the pocketbook :)
Great video. I think the quality of many things have gone down exponentially since 2021. Most of our products are still made in China and they have been experiencing some really tough times in recent years. So I think that would explain your subpar highlighters and sticky notes, etc.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Things have definitely changed since 2021.
I would use the Stalogy as a reading planner!
That's an excellent idea! I want to read more in 2024 and that would be perfect for that. Thank you! :)
Does anyone have any examples of a reading book or recommend a site or youtube thats informative?@@planningcalm
Bevor I bought a weekly planer I standed like 20 min in the store and looked closely at the size. There Was one in the same size like your hobonichi but I knew that the size wasnt right. Im an A6,a5 and a4 girl 😂
Lol! I hear that!😊🙌🏿
Hi new subber 🫶🏻 agree with this. I started looking at the Take a Note planners last night when I’m all set and some for next year. My regret was buying a Hobonichi Cousin in April. It’s too big and a millstone 😂
Lol! Welcome to the fam and thanks so much for being here😊❤️
Love this video!
Thank you so much my friend 😊🥰
This is so interesting. This is the first time I’m seeing _that_ delfonics pouch on the planner side of youtube. That specific pouch was (is?) a big thing on the journal side (not talking about _bullet_ journal girls, JUST journal girls). Those that had it, raved about it. It Also comes in 3 different sizes, if I’m not mistaken
Nice! I was new to it this year. I like it, wish I had it in a smaller size maybe. I just didn’t know how to use it
Those highlights never worked for me either. I think they are over hyped.
Sorry they did t work for you my friend. Which ones do you prefer to use instead?😊
Such a good point. Sometimes cheap isn’t always worth it. Thanks for watching😊
For sure there is a 'Planner tax' just like there's a 'Pink tax'. Companies know that people in the planner community love to have all the latest goods, so the price reflects that
So true!👍🏿
I love mildliners. My regret this year was buying transparent sticky notes. My notes smear every time. Sooo, it could be aesthetically pleasing, but not with smeared ink. lol. The internet made me do it too!
Lol! The internet is to blame for a lot of my bad purchases to. Chasing after those aesthetic vibes set me back a buck or two😊
Nothing wrong with a good old painted empty tin can for a pencil/pen holder on the desk.
Lol! I love it! Resourceful and practical😊👍🏿
