VIOLENT EF4 Tornado hits Rolling Fork, Mississippi - March 24, 2023

- We filmed a strong tornado as it went into Rolling Fork, MS. Unfortunately the town was destroyed and we had to help pull people out of the rubble as emergency services were over 30 min away. My heart goes out to all those impacted by this destructive tornado.

That's astounding. Being British, I haven't seen many tornadoes, but I know enough to know that's gigantic. Kudos to you for helping after it passed. I can't even begin to comprehend the sense of grief and loss felt by those in Rolling Fork. RIP to those lost and best wishes to those rebuilding their lives.
The largest ever recorded was 2.6 miles wide, in El Reno, Oklahoma. That tornado was so powerful, it caused subvortices that whirled around a massive EF4 funnel that was moving at speeds so fast it caught drivers by complete surprise, these subvortices exceeded the threshold for EF5 wind speeds, or as you may know it T11, seeing as we are talking about Europe.
The worst time for a tornado to form is during sleep hours. How horrifying
it hit Rolling Forks at 8pm, we was there at 8:13pm. it wasn't that late at night
Wild. What a terrifying spectacle. Much respect. You wouldn't catch me anywhere near something like that, willingly at least. I love to watch chasers videos on UA-cam. But in person, I'd completely lose composure at such a sight.
Only live once guy lol got enjoy it!!
@@TEXASTRUCKER87 I'll thoroughly enjoy it if I can steer clear of the death funnels. I love a good thunderstorm, but that? No thanks.
I'm with you lol. I can't handle regular storms at times because I am deathly afraid of death funnels! Here in UA-cam? I can hane that just fine. Much respect to these storm chasers and I thank them for everything they do to protect us
@@TEXASTRUCKER87 You have a Death wish, be my guest lol. Perhaps you should become a storm chaser!
@@ugib8377
I too love a good thunderstorm (especially at night!)
And I would chase a tornado ... but only in daylight! And from a good safe distance.
Watched this live on every feed possible, this is the defining footage of this tornado. Boy it feels so unbelievably strong even through video
I will tell you it WAS insane. Inflow at one time was 90mph per a dow. It was hard to stand up at times.
Unbelievable footage Max. Such a horrific tornado.
What time did this EF5 strike?
@@rosewetzel8284 Touchdown was just aftter 8:00 PM CDT, I believe. At present, the official rating on this tornado is EF4.
How many fatalities did this tornado cause?
@@dallascowboysnumber1fan I think the survey listed 25 deaths, when I checked last.
@@dallascowboysnumber1fan the death count is officially 30
At around 1:50 there appears to be a vehicle with its headlights on being hurled around the tornado. That's insane.
edit: nvm that does look like a car, wow. 😨
@@isupportthecurrentthing5225 no…it’s not…it’s very clearly not
Another stream I saw they were saying it could be a drone. Hard to tell but it looked a little bigger than a drone. Maybe a UTV?
The light more or less seems to always be facing/visible to the camera, which wouldn't be the case if it were a vehicle, as you'd imagine a vehicle picked up would spin and cartwheel wildly.
@@Eva.Aurora Agree. Dont think it was a vehicle with its lights pointed directly at us for that entire duration.
It's either some light source that can be seen from multiple angles (like a lantern type of light source) or that was a reflection off the windshield.
What a devastating thing to see. I watched this on radar as it happened. My prayers go out to the victims.
You always get such incredible defined images of the tornado funnel silhouette. Amazing pictures.
Oh wow, I couldn’t see these tornadoes in the live feeds last night. This is a monster.
They’re bad enough during the day when there’s visibility, but when you can’t see these at night is why so many people lost their lives.
God be with everyone that was hit with these storms last night.
Absolute monster tornado! Atmosphere was so volatile
It sure was
Amazing! Praying for the people affected by this crazy storm! 🙏
Also, the first recorded twister in USA history struck Natchez, Mississippi back on 6 May, 1840. Natchez sits in the Lower Mississippi Valley, the same region that this swarm of recent 2023 tornadoes struck and struck the same region 52 years ago in 1971. Back in those days, they were called "cyclones."
Tornadoes are scary enough especially massively destructive ones like this, but there is something even more terrifying about a nighttime twister that is shrouded in darkness.
Never saw your videos man but respect what you do!! I live in Ga.and have always loved rain and thunderstorms even nore than a sunny day.i ended up an Electrician but could of easily went some sort of weather route lol.i bet you havent slept in 24hrs and adrenaline's through the roof as your recording then hurrying up to post it for us then back at it!! STAY SAFE BROTHER,GOD BLESS
Wow....this is terrifying in the dark! Glad you are safe!
Max- I have seen so many clips of your storm chasing over the past 5 or so years, but never knew your name. I landed on the Rolling Fork analysis, which I just watched the MAX new documentary about. You were obviously not in it because you are one of the best and wouldn't make those mistakes. 👏👏
Praying for everyone who was in its path🙏🏽This is some awesome footage 😮
Blessings! Very kind to help ! ThankYou for sharing so West coast area understands what's happening! I have a lot of family in Midwest surrounding areas! Around 30+ of my loved ones there! Take care and stay safe. Sincerely, in Washington state.
Whoa, that’s large! Hope everyone there will be alright.
Thanks for sharing!
Sadly, no. More than 23 deceased and counting. The town of Rolling Fork was obliterated,
@@uchual I saw that…absolutely tragic.
@@uchual i dont care what the wind speeds were, this should have been an ef5 just like mayfield
The lighting with tornadoes is always insane. Non-stop flashing
Thank you for sharing this insane moment.
Incredible footage! Prayers to all those affected and to those lives lost by this monster of a tornado. Appreciate you and your footage! Much love to you from Texas. 🤙🏽💛
On man! That is excellent footage of that tornado! I was watching that on radar last night. Well done. That has to be at least an EF4. I saw some horizontal vortices.
Couple minutes ago it was categorized as an EF4
Car in the video is actually picked up at 1:40 toward the left side of the tornado, it actually circled completely around it once before it was fully lifted into the air. If you slow the video down and use your mouse or space bar to go forward one click at a time, you can actually see the car tumbling where you can see both front and rear lights.
Oh man, Looks like Mayfield all over again, Great footage Max as always. Thoughts & 🙏🙏🙏 for Mississippi
Watched it all unfold from start to finish all the way across the state. Sending prayers 🙏🏼. Historic. Catastrophic.
I live in Walls Ms, What I saw last night was insane! Never seen 3 lightning strikes land at once. incredibly beautiful but scary, had to take the long way home because I was sure that the lightning would hit me as well as we were almost right under the storm! I think it lost momentum before it hit where we live. Prayers to all those that were affected by the tornado last night
Thank goodness you made it home safe out of this beasts rathe.💜🐇❤️💚💛
The shot of what we now know is a car that was thrown around the tornado is completely haunting. I have heard conflicting reports as to whether or not anyone was in the car when this happened. I sincerely hope they escaped before the car was thrown.
Max once again with the best tornado video of an event. Dude, you are always omare on it with the top positions.
1:50 I can’t imagine how scary it would have been being in that car hundreds of feet in the sky.
Was watching the tornado plow through the city half a mile north of it and when I saw those lights go up all I could think was how horrifying it must've been for anyone in those cars.
@@gtaylor_wx hey did you get any footage?.
@@MJIZZEL no dick
@@gtaylor_wx yikes, we here half a mile south caught in RFD but a few people in our convoys says one of them was a sheriff who was hit. I dont think he was in the flying cars in this video because he lived.
@@MJIZZEL I did, still have yet to check all my footage, but took a quick look and I also got the faintest view of the lights in the tornado (not nearly as visible as this footage). I'll have a video up as soon as I can.
Prayers for those who lost loved ones.
Absolutely insane! Great job to those who caught this and prayers to those who lost loved ones and property
Epic. Hopefully not tragic for residents in the area. Dramatic footage. Thanks for posting.
Ninety-eight years and six days earlier, the notorious "Tristate Tornado" plowed through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, tracking NE for over 130 miles and claiming 720 lives. The footage here looks very similar to the Mayfield Kentucky tornado a year ago.
Beautiful twister, I love the twister. Hi, I am from Colombia, Bogotá 🇨🇴
I have no clue how this thing isn't rated EF-5 yet. This devastated an entire town. It reminds me of the Mayfield KY tornado.
That thing was a beast! Thrilling and terrifying!
You've got some iconic footage here max. Well done
great catch, this really shows the fury of this tornado
1:35 Fantastic footage jeez
Having watched this video several times in slow motion, its quite clear that there are two vehicles in the air. From 1:47-1:52 you can see the lights on each side of the funnel. The one on the left is at a lower height.
Something tells me you may not have a very good grasp on physics.
@@prndownload Here is a pro tip for you. Study the damage path of the Smithville 2011 EF5, The Phil Cambell 2011 EF5 and El Reno 2011 EF5 (no, not the infamous 2013 one).
One of these moved an entire oil rig of its foundation.
One lifted a safe from its house and ripped its door open.
One flew two cars through the air, one being a pick up truck that was airlifted for 90 seconds and flew 1.7 miles.
You might learn something..
@@MrGyngve Haha pro tip. You're just wasting my time and embarrassing yourself. If you can't understand why cars don't orbit tornadoes then nothing I can tell you will change your mind.
That is absolutely terrifying.
I'm amazed at the strength it had. A monster
OMG. That thing is absolutely frightening. Even more sinister in the dark. You guys are brave.
This is the stuff of my night terrors. I'm not kidding. I don't ever want to experience something like this. My prayers are with rolling fork and anyone affected 😢❤
Tornados were you can only see them with lighting is top 5 most terrifying things on earth.
Me and my family drove through the storm, and rolling fork about 30 minutes before it hit. Insane.
Glad you guys were able to drive through before it hit.
Thank God you made it through! ❤️🌷🌼
We were there on Hwy61 watching her grow & hit RF. Went straight there to start SAR. Complete devastation.
Unreal! 🌪️🌪️
I think those lights might originate from a power relay station. One area stays illuminated in a fixed location on the ground to the right of the antenna tower. Could be burning debris or backup power lights? Thoughts to all those affected by this storm and thank you to all the storm chasers who aided in rescues, video and early warning confirmation. Great video Max!
In another chaser's video its clearly moving in an arc motion from lower left near the ground, rising up as it spins around to the right, around the tornado.
Was that a car being hurled around the Tornado towards the end?
Guys I am in Arkansas it hit us first then it crossed yall it maybe was our 2nd EF4
Oh my god 1:40 is so eerie, you can tell it's a car because if you zoom in, you can see individual headlights and as it's vaulting around the air the red rear lights are somewhat visible. The driver likely had his brights on which is why it's so clear and the rear lights tend to not be as bright. how horrifying...no one deserves to go out like this.
My prayers are with the people that were in that car 😞
Hands down probably the scariest thing I have ever seen. Unbelievable what Mother Nature can do
Reminds me so much of Mayfield
Thoughts and prayers for the victims of this horrific weather event.
Intense. Thanks for sharing.
First of all I'm glad yall are safe and my ❤ goes out to all my family and friends in Alabama and Mississippi. @maxolson @ts 1:50 you can very plainly see at least one (looks like 2 at times) large bright orbs of light rotating around the funnel cloud. What the HOLY HELL is THAT??? I've seen it in several of the videos of this storm and besides the obvious destruction, it's got us all talking. No way those are drones in that wind and anything flying around it obviously wouldn't have power to it. Any ideas??? My room mate said he'd seen a video of a past tornado with similar phenomena. Its freaking me completely out.
That's 2 different cars. One is lifted up around the tornado. Another comment here has a chaser who verified as much.
1:40 At there moment he says “you can hear it“ you can see the vehicle being lifted off the ground on the right side of the tornado at the ground just before it does the full rotation around it.
Nice footage this storm was insane and very dangerous.
Huge and terrifying, menacing looking wow !
OMG, how terrifying to glimpse this and hear that sound,
WOW
First.
And I'm glad that didn't happen in my county 😨
Wow! that thing was MASSIVE!
Dude. Max is the man. (Edward from
Punta Gorda, FL.)
Max, what type of vehicle do you travel in during these storms?
Scary
0:03 you can see it be a stove pipe then expand rapidly to a wedge within seconds
What a monster!
This thing swallowed anything in its path. 2 mile wide debris field on radar. The magnitude this carried is not able to be interpreted. It’s beyond our scope.
OMG at 1:39 there are lights circling the tornado. PLEASE tell me those weren't cars! 🥺
Incredible !!
Reminded me so much of the Dec 10th tornado that came through here and hit Mayfield Ky .
Praying for all these people effected by it 🙏🏼
Big thanks to all the Storm Chasers that help these people ♥️
Pretty sure this is the same footage. Something sketchy going on here
People? Who provokes the war in Europe. We suffer because of America! They are brainwashed
Can you confirm whether there was a car with it’s lights on caught up in this beast?
Omg was those cars being thrown around the vortex?
If you pause at 1:52 and zoom in on the light circling the tornado you can see 2 distinct headlights and the rear taillights. The vehicle is at a 45 degree angle with the headlights pointed down and the rear taillights pointing up. Unbelievable!!!
Damn. I saw the radar signature and it looked nasty
OMG those poor people, terrifying thoughts and prayers to them all. ontario
Tornado chasing at dark. Evel Knievel turns that mission down.
So eerie at night. Also you need night vision camera.
Potentially the first tornado and UFO video in existence.
That little light off to the side toward the end of the video, was that a car? 😭😭
Ino a tornado is scary no matter what but one at night I can't imagine
Night of the twister and nightmare fuel, especially when only way to know thier is a tornado through lightning or power flashes.
there is video you can see headlights of cars swirling around it, talk about nightmare fuel
Oh man. That was a horrific tornado
This EF4 Tornado 🌪️ picked up objects an hurled them around at 30,000 ft elevation, prayers for the families affected, the at least 26 that lost their life in Mississippi and Alabama, an the ones who drown in flash flooding in Missouri...
You are way too good at catching nighttime wedges
Storm chasers are some of the most brave people on the planet. It’s scary watching this on UA-cam, let alone up close. 😢
I will pray for those affected by the Missippi.tornado .
Prayers.. lots of damage w this tornado..
Nothing scarier than a tornado at night.
Wow
This looks bigger than the quad state cell!
It's huge
Mother Nature is Law
Wow ! 😮
How horrifying!
Excellent video very powerful wow! Stay safe out there!!! Was that a car that got picked up and pulled into it? Looks like it's driving along to the right but then gets swept back into it and around then up. 😮😢prayers
Still not exactly sure what that was, horrific to watch regardless.
@@MaxOlsonChasing I can't even imagine. So sorry 😢❤
@@MaxOlsonChasing Was the footage taken inside your chase-vehicle or outside? I am asking because windshields can cause reflections that do not reflect the nature of the object. Also, was your footage filmed prior to Rolling Fork or during the tornado’s entry into town? Debris or lack thereof could exert an influence on the visibility of the object. Regardless, I extend my appreciation on behalf of your work.
Is this the same one that hit amory as well
